Use VRChat’s Worlds and Search features to browse unfamiliar places or look for a known topic, then save useful results in favorite lists. If a world appears to lack required content warnings, use the reporting flow and choose the Missing Content Warnings category if it is available. The exact controls can vary by client and version, so treat older instructions about button names and tag search as historical rather than guaranteed current steps.
Find worlds in VRChat
VRChat’s Worlds and Search experience is designed for both discovery and direct lookup. Browsing is useful when you want ideas; a search is more controlled when you already have a subject in mind. Release notes describe improvements to suggestions, search results, filters, and sorting, but do not establish a complete current list of filters or explain a ranking formula.
Browse when you want new ideas
VRChat’s 2022.3.1 release notes described a redesigned Worlds menu and “VRCat’s Variety Box,” which offered a random world from a set of categories. Selecting Shuffle supplied different suggestions. Those notes explain the feature’s discovery goal, but they are historical and do not guarantee that the same box, label, or layout appears in every current client.
The feature was presented as a way to help people find worlds they might not already know to search for. VRChat’s official release notes said: “The Worlds Menu has been completely redesigned to help users find exactly what they’re looking for as well as improve overall world discoverability.” This is vendor wording from the release notes, not a quotation attributed to an individual developer. If you see a suggestions or shuffle feature in your client, it is best understood as a starting point for exploration, not a replacement for a targeted query when you know what you want.

Search when you have a subject in mind
- Open the Worlds or Search area in your current VRChat client. The exact menu location and wording may differ across PC, VR, and mobile.
- Enter a subject, title, or other useful search term, then inspect the results and any filter or sorting controls shown in that client.
- If results seem unexpectedly narrow, check whether a previous custom search setting is still active. Adjust or clear the relevant controls and search again.
- Open a result’s details to confirm it is the world you want before visiting or saving it.
VRChat’s 2023.1.1 notes say world and user search filters and sorting were improved and made persistent. Custom settings could remain in effect while the Main Menu stayed open, including when a user later selected a canned search. The client indicated this with “Search Refined.” In practice, a search that looks like a preset may still be shaped by earlier filters; inspect the settings rather than assuming the preset is returning unfiltered results.
Persistence is useful if you want several searches to share a refinement, but it can also explain why a later query or preset appears to return fewer results than expected. Treat “Search Refined” as a clue that your custom settings are affecting the search, not as evidence of a particular ranking rule. The available release notes confirm persistence and refinement, but do not provide a current exhaustive filter inventory.
Searching by tags: an older instruction
VRChat’s 2018 patch notes described searching world tags by entering a term and changing “Search In” from “Title” to “Tags.” This is a dated interface description, not a confirmed current walkthrough. If the current Search UI offers a field or scope selector for tags, use it; if it does not, search by title or topic using the controls currently available. Do not assume that a tag-search option exists on every platform or client version.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11That distinction matters because tag search can sound like a guaranteed current feature when it is actually documented here only as an older UI workflow. Before relying on tags, check the controls shown in your client. If no tag scope is present, the available information does not identify a substitute hidden path or support a claim that a particular tag will appear in results.
Choose a discovery method
| Method | Best suited to | Control | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| World suggestions or shuffle | Finding unfamiliar worlds or browsing for inspiration | Low: the client supplies suggestions rather than requiring a precise query | Specific suggestion names and placement come from historical release details and may differ in the current client. |
| Search with filters or sorting | Looking for a known topic or narrowing a broad set of results | Higher: you choose a term and can use the controls offered by the current UI | Custom settings may persist and refine later searches while the Main Menu remains open. |
| Search scoped to tags | Finding worlds associated with a particular tag, if the current client supports that scope | Potentially more specific than a general title search | The documented “Search In” to “Tags” control is from 2018 and should not be treated as a current universal control. |
The release notes support the broad distinction between browsing and filtered lookup, but do not establish which approach produces more popular, higher-quality, or more relevant worlds. Results and available controls should be judged in the client you are using.
In practical terms, start with suggestions when you are open to an unexpected destination; use a query when you have a topic, name, or other clue; and use filters only when the current interface provides controls that help narrow that query. If a search becomes unexpectedly restrictive, persistence is a more evidence-based explanation to check than assuming the service has changed its recommendation ranking.

Save and organize favorite worlds
Favorite lists let you keep worlds you may want to revisit and organize them into separate collections. VRChat’s 2026.1.1 release notes describe improvements that include moving worlds between favorite lists. Use the controls presented in the current favorite-list or world-details UI to add a world, create or choose a list, and move an existing favorite; exact button names are not established consistently across platforms.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a simple organization workflow, first open the world’s details or the favorite-list controls available in your client, then add it to an appropriate list. If you later want to reorganize it, use the move-between-lists capability described in the 2026.1.1 notes, where available. The 2026.1.1 notes state that moving between lists was added as an improvement, but do not document a universal button sequence or require a particular way of naming collections.
Understand the list limits and sorting
- VRChat’s 2026.1.1 release notes state that the world-favorite allowance for VRC+ subscribers increased from 400 to 800. This figure applies specifically to VRC+ subscribers, not as a general limit for every account.
- VRChat’s 2025.3.2 notes state that favorite-list names in the client can be up to 20 characters long.
- The 2025.3.2 notes described worlds in favorite lists as displayed by date added, newest first. VRChat’s later 2026.1.2 notes say the Date Added setting was fixed to sort worlds by when they were added. The later fix is the more relevant release-history evidence for that setting.
When organizing favorites, short names make lists easier to distinguish and remain within the documented 20-character maximum. If the order does not match the sort setting you expect, check the current list’s sorting control and client version before concluding that a world was removed or moved.
The 400-to-800 change is a release-note fact for VRC+ subscribers; it should not be read as a promise that all users have 800 world slots, nor do the release notes specify other account tiers’ exact quotas. Likewise, the 20-character name limit is a documented client maximum from the 2025.3.2 notes and may change in later versions. If a list name is rejected or a favorite cannot be added, check the current client’s displayed limit rather than inferring an unmentioned account or storage problem.
Report a world or missing content warning
VRChat’s 2024.2.2 release notes introduced report entry points in both the Main Menu and Quick Menu. The reporting page was described as covering users, avatars, represented groups in the current instance, and the world the user is in. It also introduced a page for viewing submitted reports, and the notes say reports remain available from the respective detail pages.

- Choose the report reason that best describes what you observed and provide the requested details. For missing content warnings, use the specifically named category when available.
- Review the information and submit the report. Use the submitted-reports page, if available in your client, to view reports you have sent.
These steps describe the flow’s supported entry points and subject types, not a platform-specific sequence of button presses. Exact labels and placement can change; follow the current client’s prompts. The release details do not establish moderation response times, outcomes, or an appeal process.

The reporting tools cover more than worlds: the release notes also name users, avatars, and groups represented in the current instance as reportable subjects. Match the subject to the concern so the report concerns the relevant item. The current-world option is particularly relevant when the issue belongs to the environment itself; a detail page is another stated entry point if the main reporting menu is not where you expect it.
What “Missing Content Warnings” means
VRChat’s 2023.4.2 release notes describe content labels for worlds and avatars. The listed categories are sexually suggestive content, adult language and themes, graphic violence, excessive gore, and extreme horror. The notes say users can report worlds or avatars that are not properly labeled using a “Missing Content Warnings” report category.
Choose that category when the concern is that content is not appropriately labeled, rather than treating it as a generic report reason for every issue. If a label appears inaccurate or absent, identify the world or avatar and describe the mismatch clearly in the report form. The report option is distinct from the content-label filters: a filter affects what content is shown to a user, while a report communicates a possible labeling problem to VRChat.

Check content-label settings carefully
The same 2023.4.2 notes stated that content-label filters were off by default for users aged 18 or older and always on for users under 18, based on the birthday entered at registration. Those are release-note details, not a guarantee of current defaults. Check the current Safety Settings before relying on a particular default or assuming a world is absent because it has no matching results.
These historical defaults can help explain why two users may not see the same content, but they should not be used as a current promise about what a given account will see. Current settings and client behavior are the practical check. A missing result alone does not establish that a world lacks a label, and the available release details do not identify a universal way to infer the reason a particular result is absent.
Troubleshoot common discovery problems
- Search results look too limited: Review active filters and sorting. Persistent custom settings may refine later searches, including canned searches, while the Main Menu remains open.
- A search preset behaves unexpectedly: Look for a “Search Refined” indication or equivalent in the current interface, then clear or change custom settings if you want different results.
- You cannot find a tag-search control: The “Search In” to “Tags” instruction dates to 2018. Search by the world’s title or topic using current controls rather than assuming that older selector is still present.
- A world is missing from a favorite list: Check the list you selected, whether the world was moved to another list, and the active sort order. Current display labels may differ by client.
- You cannot find a report button: Check both the Main Menu and Quick Menu, then the relevant world or subject detail page. Availability and placement can vary by client version.
- A world or avatar seems to have no warning: Check the current content-label settings and use the Missing Content Warnings category if the report flow offers it.
How to interpret VRChat’s release-note details
The dated announcements describe how features were introduced or changed, not a consolidated manual for every current client. The 2018 tag-search wording, the 2022.3.1 discovery redesign, the 2023.1.1 search-persistence behavior, the 2023.4.2 content-label details, the 2024.2.2 report entry points, and the 2025–2026 favorite-list changes are useful context. They do not prove that every control remains in the same place today or is available on every platform.

The dated facts are most useful when tied to their release year: the 400-to-800 VRC+ world-favorite increase was announced in 2026, and the 20-character list-name maximum appeared in 2025 notes. Both values are subject to change in later releases. The same caution applies to named interface elements such as “VRCat’s Variety Box,” “Shuffle,” “Search Refined,” and “Search In”: the release notes document them at particular points in the product’s history rather than as guaranteed labels in every current build.

How do I find worlds in VRChat?
Use the Worlds or Search area in your current client. Browse suggestions when you want unfamiliar worlds, or enter a topic or title when you have a more specific target. Check the controls shown in your version, since menus, filters, and sorting options can differ by platform and release.
Can I search VRChat worlds by tags?
An older 2018 patch note described entering a term and changing “Search In” from “Title” to “Tags.” That is historical UI guidance, not confirmation of a current universal feature. Check your client for a tag scope or equivalent; if it is not offered, search by title or topic using the available controls.
Why do VRChat search results seem limited or different from a preset?
VRChat’s 2023.1.1 release notes say custom world and user search filters and sorting could persist while the Main Menu stayed open, affecting later searches, including canned searches. Look for “Search Refined” or an equivalent indication and review or clear active settings if you want a different result set.

How many worlds can I favorite, and how long can list names be?
VRChat’s 2026.1.1 release notes say the world-favorite allowance for VRC+ subscribers increased from 400 to 800. Its 2025.3.2 notes give a 20-character maximum for favorite-list names in the client. These are dated release-note figures, and the 400-to-800 allowance specifically concerns VRC+ subscribers.
How do I report a VRChat world?
The 2024.2.2 release notes describe report entry points in both the Main Menu and Quick Menu, as well as reports from relevant detail pages. Select the world or other subject that matches the issue, choose the appropriate reason, and submit using the current client’s prompts. A submitted-reports page was also introduced, but exact controls can vary.
When should I choose Missing Content Warnings?
Choose it when a world or avatar appears not to be properly labeled, if that category is offered in your report flow. VRChat’s 2023.4.2 notes list labels covering sexually suggestive content, adult language and themes, graphic violence, excessive gore, and extreme horror. A content-label filter changes what may be shown to you; a report communicates a possible labeling problem.
Are content-label filters always on or off by default?
The 2023.4.2 release notes said filters were off by default for users aged 18 or older and always on for users under 18, based on the birthday entered at registration. Those are historical defaults, not a guarantee of current behavior. Check the current Safety Settings.
The Bottom Line
Browse suggestions for discovery and use search for a known topic, but check persistent filters when results look unexpectedly narrow. Save useful worlds in favorite lists and use the current client’s report flow for a world or missing content warning. Treat exact buttons, tag search, limits, sorting, and content-label defaults as version-sensitive unless the current UI confirms them.
