An Office 2010 product key is a 25-character code arranged in five groups:
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXXThe reliable way to find it depends on how Office was obtained. Check the original purchase email, retail packaging, computer documentation, or retailer account before trying commands. If Office is already installed, Windows can show only the last five characters of the installed key—not the complete key.

Find the Office 2010 key from the original purchase
Use the section that matches your copy of Office 2010.

Search the purchase-confirmation email for the product key. Check the inbox, spam or junk folders, and any other email accounts that may have been used at checkout. Search for Microsoft and the retailer’s name.

If the purchase was made through the Microsoft Store, use this documented order-history path:
- Open MicrosoftStore.com.
- Select Sign in in the upper-right corner.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account used to purchase Office.
- Select your name in the upper-right corner, then choose Order History.
- Find the Office 2010 one-time purchase or individual Office application.
- Select Install Office to view the product key.
Selecting Install Office in this order-history workflow does not itself install Office. Microsoft also notes that the key shown in order history may differ from the key displayed in My Office Account; this is considered normal.
Office 2010 came in a box, card, or DVD package
Inspect the product-key card, the label inside the retail box, and the packaging supplied with the DVD. Some Office 2010 packages instructed the purchaser to visit Office.com/getkey to obtain the final product key.

Do not confuse a 27-character card PIN with the 25-character Office product key. Microsoft currently says that unused Office 2010 card PINs can no longer be redeemed to retrieve a product key. If the PIN was never redeemed and the 25-character key was not saved, that PIN cannot complete installation and activation now.
Office 2010 was preinstalled on the computer
Look for the computer’s Certificate of Authenticity (COA) or the paperwork supplied by the manufacturer. A computer may have separate labels for Windows and Office. The correct label must identify Microsoft Office 2010.

A Windows COA key will not activate Office. If several labels are present, do not assume the most visible one is the Office key.
Office 2010 was purchased through Digital River
If Digital River handled the original purchase, use Microsoft’s Digital River recovery route:
- Open the Digital River download-information page.
- Select Find my product key.
- Enter the purchase information requested on the page.
This route applies only to purchases originally processed through Digital River.
Show the last five characters of an installed key
Office 2010 does not normally display the complete installed product key in Word, Excel, or another Office window. Its licensing script can display licensing details and the last five characters of the installed key. This is useful for matching an installed copy with a key found in an email, on a card, or in a business license record.
Use Command Prompt
- Open the Start menu and search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run the command for the Office installation path.
For 64-bit Office 2010 installed in the standard 64-bit Office folder, run:

Last 5 characters of installed product keyOffice14 is the folder name used by Office 2010. The /dstatus option displays license information. Microsoft also documents /dstatusall for displaying information about all installed licenses:

If Windows says it cannot find OSPP.VBS
The command fails when the folder path does not match the combination of Windows and Office architectures. Check these locations in File Explorer:

Look for OSPP.VBS in either folder. You can also search the Windows drive for that filename and run cscript.exe with the full path to the file.

For example, if the file is found in the second folder, use:

The script is a diagnostic and matching tool. It does not reconstruct or reveal the complete 25-character key. Save the displayed five-character suffix alongside the original key, receipt, package, or license documentation.
Microsoft’s documentation uses the last five characters shown by /dstatus with the /unpkey command, but does not describe /dstatus as a full-key recovery method.
Check whether Office 2010 is already activated
To check activation from an Office application:
- Open Word, Excel, or another Office 2010 program.
- Select File.
- Select Help.
- Look for Activate Product Key.
If Activate Product Key is not shown, Microsoft says that Office is already activated. This screen confirms activation status; it is not a way to retrieve the complete product key.
What to do if the key is lost
If you still have valid proof of purchase, contact Microsoft Support. Microsoft may be able to replace the key or provide another option, but replacement is not guaranteed.

Keep in mind that a product key alone does not replace missing installation media. Microsoft’s Office 2010 guidance states that if the original DVD is missing, the key does not provide the missing media.

When possible, copy the key directly from the original purchase email rather than typing it manually.
Claims about Office 2010 keys that no longer work
- “Sign in to a Microsoft account to reveal the key.” This is not a dependable recovery method for Office 2010. Account-based activation guidance generally concerns newer Office versions.
- “Enter the key at Office.com/setup.” Microsoft’s current setup process does not provide Office 2010 for download when the original installation media is unavailable.
- “Redeem the 27-character card PIN.” Microsoft says Office 2010 card PINs can no longer be redeemed for the product key.
- “Office 2010 stopped working when support ended.” Office 2010 reached end of support on October 13, 2020, but Microsoft says the software continues to function. It no longer receives technical support, bug fixes, security updates, or software updates through Microsoft Update.
- “A key-finder program will always show the full key.” The Microsoft-supported licensing script shows license information and the last five characters, not a guaranteed complete key.

If Office is installed, run the matching Office14ospp.vbs /dstatus command to identify the last five characters, but do not expect it to reveal the full key. If the key is genuinely lost, proof of purchase is the best basis for a Microsoft Support request.
