Yes—delisting usually does not remove a game that you already own. Valve says retired games remain in existing players’ Steam libraries and can still be downloaded, installed, and launched. If a delisted title is missing from your Library, first verify that you are signed into the purchasing account, remove Library filters, and check View > Hidden Games. For a recent purchase, confirm the transaction in Steam purchase history and sign out and back in to refresh the client.
A store page disappearing and an account entitlement disappearing are different events. The checks below separate an ordinary visibility problem from an incomplete purchase, declined payment, revoked key, or account issue.
Is a delisted Steam game still in my library?
In general, yes. Valve’s Steamworks documentation says: "Retired games will remain in players’ Steam libraries. Those players will continue to be able to download, install, and launch the game." The statement describes Valve’s general treatment of products retired from Steam: removing a listing does not, by itself, erase the entitlement of people who already owned the game.

That policy is not a guarantee that every title will work forever. A game can have separate technical problems, depend on servers that no longer operate, or be affected by an account-specific action. A revoked activation key and a declined payment are different from a publisher removing a store listing. Check the account record before treating the delisting as the cause.

It also helps to separate three questions that are often combined:
- Is the product still sold? A missing or retired Store page answers this question.
- Does this Steam account own or have access to it? Your Library, activation history, and purchase record answer this one.
- Can the installed game still run? That can depend on the game’s files, updates, online services, and licensing checks.
A “no” to the first question does not automatically produce a “no” to the second. Work through the account and transaction checks before deleting an installed copy or buying another key.
How do I find a game that disappeared from my Steam Library?
Use the Steam desktop client and work through these checks in order. The sequence starts with the causes that most often make an owned game appear to be missing and ends with account support.

Sign into the account that owns the game
Open Steam’s account menu and confirm the username or account identity. Use the account that originally bought the title, redeemed its gift, or activated its product key. Steam Support notes that a previously activated game missing from the list commonly means the user is signed into a different account.
If you have more than one Steam account, sign out completely and test each account that could have made the purchase. A family member’s account, an old email address, or an account used only for key activation can look similar but has a separate Library and entitlement record. Do not rely on the email currently open in your mail app; match the account shown in the Steam client with the account named in the receipt or activation message.
If another person bought the game as a gift, the relevant entitlement is the account that accepted the gift, not necessarily the account that paid for it. Ask the purchaser for the recipient details shown in the gift record rather than assuming the buyer’s Library contains the game.

Clear every Library filter
Go to Library and make sure the client is showing all games. Remove collection, genre, installed-only, favorites, and other filters that could exclude the title. Search for the game by its exact name after the filters are cleared.

Check the search spelling as well as the filter state. Receipts can use a package or edition name that differs from the short title you remember. Search for the publisher’s name or a distinctive word in the title, then inspect nearby entries for a soundtrack, demo, or bundle component that may have a similar name. Do not treat a failed Store search as proof that the Library entitlement is gone.

Open the Hidden Games view
In the Steam client, choose View > Hidden Games. Hidden games are removed from the normal Library view as an organizational choice; hiding does not cancel ownership.
If the missing title is listed, right-click it, choose Manage, and select Remove from Hidden. Return to the regular Library and search again. This change affects your own client organization, not the game’s store listing.

Always check this menu before reinstalling Steam or assuming that a publisher removed your license. If the game is not in Hidden Games, continue with the account and transaction checks; do not repeatedly toggle privacy settings, because privacy and hiding are separate controls.

Check the purchase or activation record
For a game bought recently through Steam, verify that you received a Steam receipt email and that the transaction appears in your purchase history. Match the product name, date, account, and payment status. A payment that is incomplete or still pending may not yet create a completed Library purchase.
If the game came from a key or gift rather than a direct Steam checkout, look for the activation or gift record associated with the signed-in account. A key can be revoked independently of a game being delisted, so an old receipt or an installer file is not by itself proof that the current account still has a playable license.
Record what the history actually says: completed, pending, incomplete, reversed, or declined. A receipt email showing an attempted checkout is not the same as a completed entitlement. Compare the account name and product name line by line, especially if you purchased a bundle or an edition with additional downloadable content.

Refresh the Steam client session
When purchase history shows a completed purchase but the game is still absent, sign out of the Steam client and sign back in. This forces the client to reload the account’s Library data. After signing in, clear the filters again and check View > Hidden Games before trying the search.
Use the desktop client for this check rather than relying only on a browser Store page. The Store can stop displaying a retired product while the signed-in client still has the account’s entitlement. A fresh session is a simple way to distinguish stale client data from an account record that genuinely lacks the game.

Contact Steam Support if the records do not agree
If the correct account, unfiltered Library, Hidden Games view, purchase history, and refreshed session all fail to locate the title, contact Steam Support. Provide the account information and transaction or activation details so support can compare the account entitlement with the purchase record. Public information cannot determine whether a particular game is licensed to your individual account.

Explain the sequence you followed and attach only the information requested through Steam’s support system. Include the exact title and edition, approximate date, payment status, and any key-revocation message. Support can then investigate an account-specific mismatch instead of treating the case as a general delisting question.

Where are my hidden games on Steam?
The client’s hidden-game list is separate from the normal Library. Choose View > Hidden Games from the Steam menu. Select a title, right-click it, open Manage, and choose Remove from Hidden to restore it to the ordinary Library view.
Hiding is an owner-side organization setting. It is not the same as making a game private. A hidden title is suppressed from your normal list until you unhide it. A private game remains visible to its owner in the Library; privacy controls what other people can see about the game and your activity. Changing privacy settings will not recover a title that is missing from your own account.
If you use more than one computer, perform the check in the client where the problem appears, then sign in again after unhiding. The important test is whether the title is attached to the account and visible after the hidden filter is removed, not whether other users can see it on your profile.

The table is a diagnostic guide, not a replacement for the account record. For example, an entry that appears after signing back in confirms a visibility or session issue, while a revoked-key notice points to a licensing event that delisting policy does not reverse.

What if the purchase was recent?
A recent checkout needs a different check from an older, established Library entitlement. Start with the receipt email and Steam purchase history. Confirm that the title is named correctly and that the payment is marked completed, not pending, reversed, or declined.
Steam may show a game during an authorization period even though the card transaction has not finally succeeded. If the payment is declined, Steam removes the game from the Library and requires a valid purchase to play. In that situation, a disappearing entry is a payment outcome rather than evidence that a delisted product was removed from existing owners.
When the history shows a completed purchase, close the client session by signing out and then sign back in. Do not rely only on the Store search: a retired product may no longer have a normal store listing even though the completed purchase belongs in the Library.
Keep the receipt until the title is visible and installable. If the transaction is pending, avoid making a second purchase solely because the Store page is unavailable; first determine whether the original payment completed or failed. If support is needed, the receipt number, date, product name, and account identity give Steam a way to trace the checkout.

What if the game used a CD key?
A revoked CD key is a separate licensing event. Delisting removes or retires a store listing; revocation invalidates a particular key. Steam Support says that after a key is revoked, playing again requires one of three outcomes: buy the game, activate another valid key, or receive a gift copy.
Check whether the title was activated on the account you are using and whether Steam presented a revocation notice. Keep the original key-purchase receipt and any activation email for support. Installing files from an old computer cannot restore an entitlement that Steam no longer recognizes.
Do not confuse a missing Store listing with a revoked key. A product can be delisted while existing, valid owners retain access, and a key can be revoked even when the product’s listing has a different status. The notice attached to the account or key is the relevant evidence for this branch of the diagnosis.
Can a private game disappear from my own Library?
No. Steam’s privacy setting and its hidden-game setting have different purposes. A private game remains visible to its owner in the Library while privacy changes what other users can see. If you cannot see the title yourself, investigate the account, filters, Hidden Games view, and transaction status instead of changing public-profile privacy options.

Likewise, hiding a title does not make it private and making it private does not hide it from you. Use the menu that corresponds to the symptom: View > Hidden Games for a missing entry in your own list, and privacy controls only when the concern is what other people can see.
Why the Store search is not a reliable ownership test
A delisted title may no longer appear in Store search, may have an unavailable purchase button, or may lead to a page that cannot be opened normally. Those symptoms establish that the public listing is unavailable; they do not establish that an existing owner lost the account entitlement.
Use the signed-in Library and purchase history as the ownership checks. The Store is useful for discovering whether a product is currently sold, but it is not a complete list of every game previously activated on your account.
Do not infer a license change from a broken link, a missing price, or a search result that redirects. Those are Store-facing signs. The decisive checks are whether the account lists the game, whether the transaction or activation is valid, and whether Steam reports a separate payment or key problem.

- The Steam account username and the email address associated with it.
- The exact game title, including any edition or package name shown on the receipt.
- The approximate purchase date and the payment method used.
- The Steam receipt email or purchase-history entry showing the transaction status.
- For a key activation, the retailer receipt, activation date, and any revocation message. Do not publish a complete unused key in a support forum or public post.
- Screenshots of the unfiltered Library, View > Hidden Games, and the relevant purchase-history result if support requests them.
- The exact error text displayed when you try to install or launch the game.
Describe what you checked in order: the owning account, cleared filters, Hidden Games, purchase history, and a fresh client sign-in. That tells support that the problem is not simply a hidden title or an old Library filter. If a gift was involved, identify the recipient account and include the gift record rather than only the purchaser’s payment receipt.
Limits of what delisting policy tells you
Valve’s statement about retired games is a platform policy, not an account-by-account verification. It does not prove that a particular reader bought a particular title, that a license was never revoked, or that the game’s online services still function. It also does not override a declined transaction or a revoked key.
Steam’s client labels and menus can change over time. If a menu is worded slightly differently in your current client, look for the equivalent Library visibility control and the hidden-game list. The decisive evidence remains the entitlement recorded on the correct Steam account and the status of the associated transaction or activation.

Those are operational limitations, not proof that the original ownership record disappeared. First establish ownership; then troubleshoot installation or launch behavior separately.

- Checking only the Store: a retired listing cannot tell you what is in your Library.
- Assuming the newest logged-in account is the buyer: Steam accounts keep separate purchase and activation records.
- Stopping after a filtered search: installed-only, favorites, collections, or other views can hide an owned title.
- Skipping Hidden Games: hiding is an account-owner organization choice and does not remove the license.
- Treating a pending checkout as completed: verify the payment status in purchase history.
- Publishing a product key: send sensitive activation details only through the official support process when requested.
- Buying again before checking a revoked key or account mismatch: a second purchase may not address the original problem.
A fast decision path
- Use the account that originally bought, received, or activated the game.
- Open Library and remove every filter.
- Choose View > Hidden Games; unhide the title through Manage if it is there.
- For a recent purchase, compare the receipt and purchase history with the account you are using.
- If the purchase is completed but the entry is missing, sign out and back in.
- Check for a declined payment or revoked key if the title appeared and then vanished or shows a licensing error.
- Contact Steam Support when the account records still do not match what you own.
This order prevents the most common false conclusion: that a missing Store page erased an existing entitlement. Confirm the account, visibility, transaction, and licensing status first; only then decide whether the problem is ownership, payment, or the game’s ongoing operation.
