To find a Max Battle in Pokémon GO, open the map and look for Power Spots, or use the Nearby menu to see active locations, the Dynamax Pokémon featured there, difficulty, remaining time and waiting Trainers. Collect Max Particles at the spot, assemble three eligible Pokémon with at least one Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon, then tap Battle. Max Monday runs every Monday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in your local time, with one featured Dynamax Pokémon taking over Max Battles during that hour.
What is Max Monday?
Max Monday is Pokémon GO’s weekly one-hour Max Battle event. Every Monday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM local time, a featured Dynamax Pokémon appears in Max Battles at Power Spots. The featured species changes, so check the current in-game event information before you travel. Do not assume that the Pokémon from one Monday will return the next week.
The event is local-time based rather than a single worldwide clock. A Monday evening window therefore begins and ends according to the time zone set for your play area. Power Spots and the featured boss can change over time, so confirm the live map shortly before you leave home and again when you arrive.
What are Power Spots and how can I find them?
Scan the map while exploring
Power Spots appear on the Pokémon GO map as you explore. They are the locations where Max Battles take place and where you can collect Max Particles. A Power Spot is temporary: it can move or disappear, and its remaining availability matters when deciding whether there is enough time to form a group and finish a battle.

Use the Nearby menu
Open the Nearby menu to see local Power Spots without manually checking every part of the map. For a spot that has a Dynamax Pokémon, the listing can show:
- the boss species;
- battle difficulty;
- time remaining;
- location details and distance; and
- whether other Trainers are waiting.
These details let you choose a practical battle rather than simply the closest icon. A spot with little time left may close before your group finishes, while a slightly farther spot with waiting Trainers may be the better choice. Because Power Spots are temporary, treat the Nearby listing as a live snapshot and recheck it before committing to a walk or drive.
How to choose between nearby Max Battles
| Nearby information | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Boss species | Confirm that the location has the Pokémon you want, especially during Max Monday. |
| Battle difficulty | Use it to judge whether your available Max-capable team and group size are suitable. |
| Time remaining | Allow time to travel, collect particles, fill the lobby and complete the encounter before the spot closes. |
| Distance and location | Pick a reachable spot and verify the in-person location details before setting out. |
| Waiting Trainers | Prefer a location where players are already gathering if you need help forming a group. |
How Max Particles work
Collect particles at a Power Spot
Tap a Power Spot on the map, then tap the visible Max Particle bubbles to collect them. You can also collect Max Particles while exploring; Niantic’s help guidance says Adventure Sync can contribute while you explore. Check your balance before selecting Battle, because the entry requirement depends on the boss’s strength.

| Limit | Value | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
| Max Particles collected per day | 800 | The amount you can collect during one day. |
| Max Particles held in the Item Bag | 1,500 | The maximum balance you can store at one time. |
The help page does not state a publication year for these figures. If the current game interface shows a different limit, follow the in-game value. The battle cost itself varies with the boss, so having enough for one encounter does not guarantee that you have enough for a stronger one.
When particles are spent
Max Particles are deducted only when your group defeats the boss. Entering a lobby does not by itself consume them. If the group loses, you can rejoin and try again before the Power Spot closes without paying additional Max Particles for the retry.
Prepare your team before you tap Battle
Bring three eligible Pokémon
The battle party contains three Pokémon. At least one must be a Max Pokémon, and only Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon can participate. Review the party-selection screen before entering so that an ineligible Pokémon does not prevent you from joining.
Power up Max Moves
Niantic recommends powering up Max Moves before taking on a boss. This is preparation rather than a separate entry requirement: you still need the required Max Particles and a valid three-Pokémon party.

Plan your particle balance
Collect particles before the Monday window instead of waiting until the event begins. Remember both constraints: the daily collection limit is 800 and the Item Bag can hold 1,500. If you are near the storage limit, check your balance before visiting another Power Spot so you do not spend time collecting more than you can hold.
Arrange help when needed
Max Battles support up to four Trainers. For Max Monday, Niantic recommends using Campfire to find local Trainers and coordinate a meeting point. The Nearby indicator showing waiting players can help you decide whether a spot already has a group forming.
Pack for a longer outdoor session
Max Battles require map-based movement and may involve visiting more than one temporary Power Spot. A USB-C portable power bank is an optional convenience for a long outing; it is not a Pokémon GO requirement or a Niantic recommendation. Keep your phone charged, use a safe route and check the location details before walking.

- Open the map. Look for Power Spots, then open Nearby to compare active locations, boss details, difficulty, time remaining, distance and waiting Trainers.
- Choose a spot with enough time left. Account for travel and the time needed to gather a group before the temporary location closes.
- Tap the Power Spot. Review the boss and the battle information shown for that location.
- Collect Max Particle bubbles. Tap each bubble at the spot and confirm that your balance covers the boss’s variable entry requirement.
- Tap Battle. The option is available when you have enough Max Particles to enter.
- Select three Pokémon. Include at least one Max Pokémon and make sure every selected Pokémon is Dynamax or Gigantamax.
- Join the lobby. Coordinate with nearby Trainers in person or through Campfire if you need additional players. A maximum of four Trainers can challenge the boss.
- Wait for the lobby to start. The battle begins when four Trainers have joined or when the lobby timer reaches zero.
- Fight the boss. If the group wins, the game awards the battle rewards and gives you a chance to catch the defeated boss.
What happens if the group loses?
A failed attempt does not automatically consume another set of Max Particles. You may rejoin and try again before that Power Spot closes. This makes the remaining-time indicator important: use it to decide whether a retry is realistic, and recruit more Trainers if the first attempt showed that the group needed additional help.

Particles are deducted after a successful defeat, not merely for entering the lobby or losing an attempt. Once the boss is defeated, you receive the battle rewards and an opportunity to catch it.
What happens after a victory?
Catch the defeated Pokémon
Victory provides a chance to catch the boss. Follow the encounter prompt immediately so you do not leave the location assuming the battle reward and the catch opportunity are separate activities.
Leave a Pokémon at the Power Spot
After winning, Trainers may leave a Pokémon at the Power Spot to assist future challengers. This is optional, but it can help other players who arrive later while the location remains active.

Troubleshooting common problems
No Power Spot appears on the map
Open Nearby rather than relying only on the map view. Power Spots are temporary and can move or disappear, so refresh your search while exploring and verify the listed location details.

- 30% Smaller, Effortlessly Portable: Leveraging industry-first TinyCell high-density battery technology, we’ve shrunk 20,000mAh into a frame 30% smaller than other power banks of the same capacity. At just 11.5oz—the weight of a 330ml can of cola, it slides effortlessly into your crossbody bag.
- 15 mins Faster with 45W Charging: Stop waiting and start exploring. Our 45W output is 15 minutes faster than traditional 22.5W power banks, boosting an iPhone 17 Pro from 20% to 76% in just 30 minutes—exactly the time it takes to finish an espresso.
- 2-Day Power, Zero Battery Anxiety: With a massive TSA-compliant 20,000mAh capacity, this power bank fuels your journey with about 4 full charges for phones or 2 full charges for tablets. From morning commutes to weekend getaways, stay powered and connected without ever being tethered to a wall.
- Simplify Your Carry: Never forget your cable again with the built-in braided USB-C cable. Tested for 10,000+ bends, it eliminates tangled wires in your bag. Plus, a built-in flashlight adds extra peace of mind for emergencies.
- Charge 3 Devices at Once: Low on battery? Charge up to 3 devices simultaneously—your phone, tablet, and more.
The Battle option is unavailable
Check your Max Particle balance first. The boss determines the required amount, and the requirement can be higher than for another nearby battle. Also verify that you selected three Pokémon and that at least one is Dynamax or Gigantamax; only those forms can participate.
You cannot collect more particles
Compare your balance with the 1,500-particle Item Bag limit and your collection for the day with the 800-particle daily limit stated by Niantic. Exploring and Adventure Sync can provide collection opportunities, but neither removes those limits.
The lobby is empty
Use the Nearby waiting-Trainers information to choose a busier spot, or coordinate through Campfire. If the location has little time remaining, move to a Power Spot with enough time for other Trainers to arrive.
The featured Pokémon is not the one you expected
The Max Monday species changes. Check the current in-game event information for that Monday instead of relying on a previous week’s announcement or memory.
The team loses
Retry at the same Power Spot before it closes. Because particles are deducted only after a successful defeat, you can make another attempt without an additional particle payment; recruit more Trainers if the first attempt was underpowered.
Quick checklist before every Max Battle
- Power Spot selected through the map or Nearby menu.
- Boss species, difficulty, distance and remaining time checked.
- Enough Max Particles for that boss.
- Three Pokémon selected, including at least one Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon.
- Max Moves powered up where useful.
- Campfire or an in-person meeting plan if more Trainers are needed.
- Enough time remaining for the lobby, battle and a possible retry.
Max Battles and Catching Max Pokémon
The reliable flow is straightforward: locate a temporary Power Spot, collect its Max Particle bubbles, enter with three eligible Pokémon, and coordinate with up to three other Trainers. During Max Monday, perform those steps between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM local time while watching the changing featured species and the Power Spot’s closing time. If the first attempt fails, retry before closure; after a successful defeat, collect the rewards and take the offered catch encounter.
