On a self-hosted DayZ server, both the ADM admin log and the RPT engine report are normally in the folder specified by the server’s -profiles= launch parameter. Open that folder and sort by modified time: the newest DayZServer_x64_<date-time>.ADM file is the current session’s admin log, while the newest .RPT file contains engine messages and errors. An ADM file is created only when the server starts with -adminlog. On a rented server, use the provider’s file manager, FTP access or web-panel Logs page instead of looking on your own computer.
Know which DayZ log you need
DayZ servers produce more than one kind of diagnostic file. The extension tells you what sort of information to expect, and checking the right file first saves time when you are investigating a player report, a crash or a configuration problem.

The two files answer different questions. If you need to establish what a player did, who was killed or whether a building action was recorded, start with the ADM. If the server failed to start, stopped responding or displayed a script or engine error, start with the RPT. A server can have an RPT and no ADM, because the ADM is conditional on the -adminlog switch.
Self-hosted servers: locate the profiles folder
The reliable way to find logs on a server you operate yourself is to inspect the command that launches DayZServer_x64.exe. Find the argument beginning with -profiles=; the path after the equals sign is the folder in which DayZ writes its profile and log files.

Find the launch command
- If you start the server with a batch file, open that
.batfile in a text editor. - If you use a shortcut, open its properties and inspect the Target field.
- If a service wrapper, script or control panel starts the process, inspect that tool’s startup-arguments field.
- If the server is already running on Windows, open the process details in Task Manager or the service configuration and look for the complete command line.
Look for a parameter shaped like -profiles=C:DayZprofiles or -profiles="D:ServersDayZserverprofile". The exact directory and drive are determined by your own command, so do not assume that the game installation directory is the log directory.
Open the folder and identify the current session
- Copy the path supplied to
-profiles=, removing surrounding quotation marks if you are pasting it into File Explorer. - Open that directory on the server machine.
- Sort the contents by Date modified, newest first.
- Open the newest file ending in
.RPTwhen you need engine diagnostics. - Open the newest file named in the pattern
DayZServer_x64_YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS.ADMwhen you need administrative activity.
Recent builds name an ADM file after the server executable and append the session’s date and time. Each session gets its own timestamped ADM file; the newest one is the live session’s file. A file with an older timestamp is normally a previous restart, not the current server activity.

Windows paths can contain spaces, and a quoted path in the launch command must remain quoted when the server starts. If you edit the command while trying to fix logging, preserve the existing quotation marks and place each switch outside or inside the quotes as appropriate for the path. A typo in -profiles= can cause you to inspect an empty directory while the server is writing elsewhere.
Make sure the server is actually configured to write the log
Before treating an empty folder as a failure, verify the switches used at startup. The spelling and capitalization of the logging options matter when you compare a script with documentation or a hosting panel.

The Bohemia Interactive Community wiki describes -doLogs as writing messages to the RPT. Because community guides often write the same option as -dologs, compare the parameter shown in your current server build or provider interface when you are troubleshooting.
Restart after changing a parameter
Launch options are read when the server process starts. Add or remove -adminlog, -doLogs or -profiles=, stop the running process cleanly, start it again, and then generate a small, known event before checking the newest files. Looking at a directory without restarting can leave you testing the old configuration.

The ADM switch turns the administrative log on, while several settings in serverDZ.cfg control which categories are written. These settings are useful when the file exists but does not contain the activity you expected.

These options affect the contents of the ADM; they do not replace the -adminlog launch parameter. If there is no ADM at all, check the startup switch first. If an ADM exists but lacks a particular category, inspect the corresponding setting in serverDZ.cfg, save the file and restart the server so the new configuration is loaded.

Interpret a missing event correctly
An absent line is not automatically proof that an action never happened. The event may be outside the categories enabled in serverDZ.cfg, may belong to an earlier session’s file, or may have occurred before the latest restart. Record the session start time, identify the matching timestamped ADM and then check the relevant filter setting.
Rented servers: use the provider’s storage or panel
With a rented DayZ server, the process that runs the game is on the provider’s machine, so its profile directory is not usually a folder on your personal computer. Providers expose that directory through one of three interfaces:

Open the host’s file manager, or connect with the FTP credentials supplied for the server. Browse to the profile directory and look for the newest .RPT and .ADM files. Some providers label this directory serverprofile; for example, BisectHosting documentation directs customers to a serverprofile folder. Folder names vary, so use the provider’s displayed path rather than copying a name from another host.
Web-panel Logs page
Some panels present log files without exposing the underlying directory. Nitrado, for example, provides a Logs section in its web interface. Select the DayZ service, open the log view, and choose the current session or download option offered by that panel. The panel may hide raw command-line switches, so its configuration page is also where you should check whether administrator logging is enabled.

Download the file before investigating
- Stop or pause automatic file rotation only if the provider’s panel requires it; do not change unrelated server settings.
- Download the newest ADM and RPT files through the file manager, FTP client or Logs page.
- Keep the original filenames so the timestamp remains associated with the session.
- Open copies locally in a text editor and search for the player name, event text or error fragment you are investigating.
If the panel shows only an RPT, look for an administrator-logging toggle or startup-arguments section. The ADM is not created until -adminlog is enabled, even when the server is otherwise running normally.
Why the ADM file may be missing
-adminlog was not enabled
This is the most direct explanation. Add -adminlog to the real startup command or turn on the equivalent host-panel setting, restart the service and check the newly created session files. Enabling the option does not retroactively create entries for an earlier session.
You opened the wrong profile directory
Re-read the active process command line and compare it with the path you opened. Multiple DayZ installations, test instances and old batch files can each have a different -profiles= value. Search the server’s launch configuration rather than relying on a remembered default.
The host stores logs behind a panel
On a rented service, an empty local folder is expected because the server files are remote. Use the provider’s file manager, FTP account or Logs page. If you cannot see those tools, check the service’s permissions or ask the host to enable log access for your account.

You are checking an older session
ADM filenames include the session timestamp. Sort by modification time and filename, then match the file’s timestamp to the restart you are investigating. A previous ADM can be complete while the current session’s file is still being written.
The option spelling differs from the panel’s accepted form
For RPT output, documentation may show -doLogs while community guides use -dologs. Verify the exact form supported by the current build or hosting panel. Do not conclude that logging is broken solely because a differently capitalized spelling was copied into a script.
How to choose ADM versus RPT during an investigation

When an incident could involve both gameplay and a technical failure, save both files from the same session. The ADM can show activity around the reported time, while the RPT can show an engine or script problem that explains why the server behaved unexpectedly.
A repeatable log-finding checklist
- Determine whether the server is self-hosted or rented.
- For self-hosting, inspect the active launch command and copy the value after
-profiles=. - For hosting, open the provider’s file manager, FTP area or Logs page.
- Confirm whether
-adminlogis enabled before expecting an ADM file. - Verify
-doLogsor the provider’s accepted spelling when you need RPT messages. - Open the newest
.ADMand.RPTfiles for the session under investigation. - Check
serverDZ.cfgfilters when a particular ADM category is absent. - After changing settings, restart the server and generate a known event before testing again.
- Keep the original timestamped filenames when downloading files for later analysis.
What is not established about a default location
If a launch command has no -profiles= parameter, do not assume a universal default path. The default RPT location when that parameter is absent is not established here by a primary Bohemia Interactive reference. The dependable procedure is to inspect the active command line, add an explicit profiles path if you control the server, or ask the hosting provider where its profile and log files are exposed.
An explicit path also makes multiple instances easier to manage: each server process can point to its own profile directory, and you can identify the correct ADM and RPT files without searching unrelated installations.
