To find a station on DAB, browse or search your radio’s station list by name. If it is missing, run an Auto-Tune or Auto-Scan, then try a Full-Scan if your radio offers one. A scan only finds stations receivable where the radio is being used, so check local availability and improve reception before assuming the radio is faulty.
Find a station in the list you already have
DAB is generally list-based: instead of entering an FM-style frequency, you select a station from those the receiver has found. Open the station list and browse for the station name. Many digital radios arrange stations alphabetically, and some let you search by name. The exact controls vary by receiver; check its handbook if you cannot find the list or search function. Virgin Radio UK explains station-name searching on digital radios.
Refresh the station list with a scan
If the station is not listed, refresh the receiver’s list. Look for Auto-Tune or Auto-Scan, either as a button or in the radio’s menu. A retune can add newly available local stations and, according to Digital Radio UK, may take a couple of minutes. Digital Radio UK’s retuning guidance describes the process.

If the regular scan does not find the station, try Full-Scan if your model provides it. Depending on the radio, you may select the option from a menu or start it by holding a scan button. Use the receiver handbook to identify the right command; labels and behavior are not universal. Virgin Radio UK’s DAB guidance also describes full scanning.

Check whether the station is available at your location
A scan can only find signals receivable where the radio is located. In the UK, use a station finder and enter your postcode to check whether the station is carried in your area. If it is not available locally, rescanning cannot add it. Digital Radio UK provides postcode-based station-finding guidance.
Coverage figures offer context, not a guarantee for a particular address or receiver. WorldDAB’s UK profile reported population coverage of 98% for BBC national DAB stations, 91.5% for national commercial stations and 91% for local DAB; its coverage subsection was last updated on 26 April 2021. These are dated UK figures, not current or universal reception guarantees. The profile’s service subsection listed 495 DAB services and 56 DAB+ services, last updated on 10 March 2021, and cautions that service pages may not be exactly up to date. Do not treat those counts as current totals. See WorldDAB’s UK profile.

Improve reception and check format compatibility
If a full scan still misses a station that should be available locally, try moving the radio, fully extending its aerial and scanning again. Position and aerial extension can affect which signals the receiver picks up. Digital Radio UK recommends these steps before further troubleshooting. Read its reception and retuning advice.

Use your radio’s own instructions before resetting it
Scan controls and their effects depend on the model. For example, on the Yamaha RX-A880, the manual’s initial-scan path is TUNER, BAND, OPTION, select “Init Scan,” then press ENTER. That instruction applies to this receiver, not to DAB radios in general. See Yamaha’s RX-A880 manual.
Do not reset the radio or repeat an initial scan casually. A reset can remove presets, stored stations and favorite settings; Yamaha warns that repeating the RX-A880 initial scan clears stations registered to preset numbers. Check your own manual before proceeding, especially if you want to preserve saved settings. Digital Radio UK explains the possible effects of resetting; Yamaha documents the RX-A880 scan behavior.
