Find a GST decision through the official portal for the forum that issued it, then open the order or judgment itself and check its forum, parties, case number, date, and operative text. A search result can help locate a document, but it does not prove that the document is complete or that the decision remains current, binding, or unstayed.
Start with the forum that issued the decision
Different forums have separate official discovery routes. First identify whether the decision came from the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT), a High Court, or the Supreme Court; then search the corresponding official service.

The eCommittee judgments portal describes its repository as covering High Court judgments. Do not assume that description includes all Supreme Court judgments; verify a Supreme Court decision through the Supreme Court’s own official resources.

Use the GSTAT portal to reach its case-status and Orders/Judgement services. Its NIC case-information system also has a Judgement/Orders page with location and search controls. Search using the strongest identifying details you have, such as the parties, case or appeal number, date, and location or bench when available.

The available portal descriptions do not establish that every bench or order appears in the public search. If a likely record is missing, that absence is not proof that no decision exists. For a missing or consequential order, confirm the record with the relevant tribunal registry or the official issuing forum.
Search High Court judgments and orders
Use the eCommittee judgments search for discovery
The eCommittee of the Supreme Court of India says its portal searches judgments pronounced by various High Courts. It supports free-text searches and filters for High Court, Act, sections, party names, judge, and judgment date. The portal invites users to “Enter keywords, acts or any free text and find specific judgments and orders.” Treat this as a High Court discovery route, not as a complete Supreme Court judgment search.

Use High Court Services to locate a case document
eCourts High Court Services allows searches by party name, case number, court number, order date, or neutral citation number. After finding the matching case, open the order or copy of judgment in PDF form and verify that it is the document you need.
- Case number: Select the High Court and bench, then provide the registration type, number, and year requested by the portal.
- Party name: The portal’s instructions accept a partial name of at least three characters and ask for the registration year.
- Other identifiers: Try the order date, court number, or neutral citation number when known.
Combining identifiers—such as a party name and case number or date—can help distinguish a relevant result from another matter with similar details.

Verify the document before citing it
Do not rely on a result title, search snippet, or summary as proof of what a court or tribunal decided. Open the official order or judgment and compare the document with the result and the matter you intend to cite.
- Confirm the forum and bench. Check that the issuing court or tribunal and, where relevant, its bench match the decision you sought.
- Match the parties and case identifier. Compare the party names and case, appeal, or registration number with the search result and any citation you already have.
- Check the decision date. Make sure the date on the document corresponds to the decision, not simply a later upload or search date.
- Read the operative text. Review the actual order or judgment, including the portion that states what the forum allowed, dismissed, directed, or otherwise decided.
- Keep the official document and citation details. Preserve the PDF or official record along with the forum, parties, case number, and decision date so the cited decision can be identified again.
Check whether a decision was appealed, stayed, or later changed
A located judgment does not by itself establish its current legal treatment. If that status matters, search for subsequent proceedings or orders in the same matter and verify each relevant document through its issuing forum. A later order may affect how the earlier decision should be described.

The official search routes described here do not provide a single comprehensive cross-forum check that determines whether a decision remains good law, has been appealed, or is stayed. A search result alone cannot answer those questions. For a consequential issue, verify later proceedings with the relevant court or tribunal records and, if necessary, the issuing registry before characterizing the decision’s status.

Use the CBIC Tax Information portal to check the relevant Act, rules, regulations, notification, circular, or related material. CBIC describes the portal as continuously updated and expanded, so check the current document and its date rather than relying only on an old saved copy.
