Open the main menu, choose Pets, then select Genus Insight. If Pets is not available, a current guide reports that you must first complete the main-story quest All Geared Up as Elyos or Gathering Essentials as Asmodian. Genus Insight is a family-specific board: collect and develop pets, then use Genus Analysis to gain board experience and reroll its stat lines.
Find the Genus Insight screen
- Open the main menu.
- Select Pets.
- Choose Genus Insight to view the family boards.
The menu route and quest gate are reported by Corpus, a current guide; the retrieved official NCSOFT announcement does not document the menu flow. If the Pets menu is missing, check whether the relevant story quest is complete for your faction. Menu labels and unlock conditions can vary as regional clients are updated.
Once the screen opens, look for the five family tabs rather than assuming there is a single shared board. Select the genus you want to inspect, then check its level, available lines, displayed effects, and analysis price. The menu is where you can distinguish a pet’s individual development from the family board’s progress. If a line or currency label differs from a guide, the current client is the more useful reference for your immediate decision.
Know which pet system you are using
Pet collection, Pet Insight, and Genus Insight are related, but they are not the same progression track. Pet Souls connect them, while the individual pet and its genus board track different progress.

In the 2026 global guides, the five genus labels are Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian, and Special. The first four are used by normal pets; Special pets use the separate Special board. Progress in one genus does not level all five boards together.
That distinction helps answer a common confusion: raising an individual pet is not the same as directly rerolling a board line. Pet Insight belongs to that one pet, while Genus Insight belongs to its family. Pet progression can contribute experience to the corresponding board, and analysis also adds board experience. The two routes are related, but they do not replace one another.
How Pet Souls feed progression
AION Strategies’ 2026 guide reports these Pet Soul thresholds for an individual pet: five Souls to unlock it, 25 more to reach Pet Insight 2, and another 75 to reach Pet Insight 3. That is 105 Souls for all three steps. These are guide-reported global figures, not a guarantee that every regional client has the same caps or costs.

The practical comparison is breadth versus depth. Unlocking a new pet takes five Souls in the reported global figures and is a collection milestone that contributes to its genus board. Taking one pet all the way to Pet Insight 3 takes a further 100 Souls after its unlock, for a total of 105, and can also contribute board experience at the reported thresholds. If you are early in progression and have accessible pets you have not unlocked, collection breadth may be the more approachable route. If you already own a pet and have Souls for it, advancing its Pet Insight gives another route to board experience. The best choice depends on the pets and Souls available to you; the guides do not establish a universal point at which one route is more efficient.
Check the pet’s source information while you play so you know where its Souls can be obtained. The guides describe Souls coming from monsters and other rewards, but do not provide a complete, universal list of sources or drop rates. Use the source information in the live client instead of planning around a specific monster or reward that may differ by region.
After a pet reaches the reported global cap, additional Souls can be converted into Soul Crystals associated with that genus, according to current guides. Genus-specific crystals are for their matching board. Universal Soul Crystals can be used more flexibly; AION Strategies recommends preserving them for Special, which it says lacks the same ordinary pet-leveling route.

This creates a useful resource distinction. A genus-specific crystal is less flexible because it is tied to its matching board, while a Universal Soul Crystal can be saved for a board where you need it. The recommendation to preserve universal crystals for Special is a guide’s resource strategy, not a rule that every player must follow. If Special is not your current priority, saving them retains an option; if you need to develop another board now, compare that immediate need with the value of keeping the flexible currency available.
Board levels, lines, and analysis costs
Each of the five boards has nine lines. AION Strategies and Corpus report that the first nine board levels open those lines, while level 10 improves roll quality rather than opening a tenth line. Lines can be rerolled through Genus Analysis.

An analysis rerolls unlocked lines and contributes board experience. Locking a line preserves it for the next reroll, but increases the analysis cost. The reported first-lock price is twice the basic analysis cost in both crystals and Kina; later lock-cost increments are not established by the cited guides.
Think of analysis as doing two jobs at once: it changes the unlocked results and helps level the board. That makes basic analysis useful during progression even when you are not yet spending to protect a particular line. The trade-off is that each attempt consumes both Soul Crystals and Kina. A plan that focuses only on a desired roll can overlook the board experience the same analysis provides, while a plan that focuses only on leveling can spend resources on a genus you do not currently need.

A practical progression order
- Unlock accessible pets. While questing and doing other activities, check each pet’s source information and collect Souls you can reasonably obtain. New pets expand your collection and, according to current guides, can contribute genus-board experience.
- Choose a board based on your goal. Build the family board that supports the character or build you are working on. Do not spend as though the five boards share one level or one pool of genus-specific crystals.
- Use basic analysis while the board is developing. At the reported base price, unlocked lines can be rerolled for 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina. This also adds board experience, so analysis can serve both progression and stat refinement.
- Hold off on locking ordinary rolls early. A lock raises the price of later analysis, while the early board levels are still opening lines. Current guides advise building levels before paying to preserve a merely acceptable roll.
- Refine after the board reaches level 10. Once the board has all nine lines and the guide-reported quality improvement at level 10, decide which effects matter for the character, then lock only lines worth keeping through further rerolls.
- Match crystals to the board. Spend genus-specific Soul Crystals on the corresponding board. Keep flexible Universal Soul Crystals available for a board where they have greater value, particularly Special under the guide’s recommendation.
Before spending, use a short check-in routine: confirm the selected genus, look at its board level and open lines, review the displayed analysis price, and decide whether your next action is meant to build experience or refine a result. If you are still opening lines, an unlocked analysis supports both progression and rerolling. If you have a result you would regret losing, compare its value to the higher price of locking it. This simple separation between leveling and refining makes it easier to avoid spending on the wrong board or locking a line by habit.
It is also reasonable to prioritize one board rather than distributing every crystal across all five. The boards progress separately, so spreading resources across them will not make one board level faster. Choose based on the family and effects that fit your current character’s needs, then revisit the choice when your priorities change. The guides do not supply a universal ranking of the five genera, so a specific board cannot be called best for every character.

Should you lock stats before level 10?
Usually, no: if your goal is to develop the board, the guides’ cost and level structure favor inexpensive rerolls first. Early levels unlock the nine lines, and level 10 is reported to improve roll quality. Locking an ordinary result before those milestones makes each later analysis more expensive, reducing how many attempts your available crystals and Kina can fund.

A lock can still make sense before level 10 if a line is already important to your current build and losing it would be worse than paying the higher price. That is a resource trade-off, not a universal rule. The first locked line has a reported cost of 8 crystals and 2,000 Kina per analysis; the full cost schedule for additional locks is not stated in the cited guides.
Ask two questions before locking: Is this effect valuable enough for this character that you want to keep it through the next reroll, and can you afford the higher price for the attempts you expect to make? If the answer to either is no, continuing with unlocked lines is the lower-cost approach described by the guides. If the answer is yes, the higher cost may be worthwhile for your build. Choose effects for your genus and character
Do not treat a single line or effect as best for every player. AION Strategies’ 2026 guide suggests starting with Line 4 because it contains a major offensive effect, but that is build advice, not an official rule that applies to every genus or character. Identify the effects that support your own priorities before spending crystals to preserve a roll.
Use Line 4 as a prompt to inspect the offensive effect, not as a reason to lock it automatically. A character focused on a different need may value another result more, and the relevant effects depend on the genus and build. Compare what the live board actually shows with your own priorities; the cited guides do not establish a single optimal set of lines for every role or character.

For players with alternate characters, the announcement means the relevant comparison is between characters on the same server, not an assumption that progress automatically transfers across every character or server. NCSOFT’s January 7, 2026 announcement describes the highest Genus Insight value among same-server characters and aggregated pet levels.
