If your Galaxy A57 freezes, crashes, restarts unexpectedly, slows dramatically, shows pop-up ads, or loses battery unusually fast, Safe Mode can tell you whether a downloaded app is responsible. Safe Mode starts the phone with third-party apps disabled. Reproduce the problem, remove recently installed or updated apps one at a time, and restart normally after each removal. If the symptom remains in Safe Mode, an app is less likely to be the cause and you should investigate updates, storage, settings, or hardware instead.
What Safe Mode tells you
Safe Mode is a diagnostic startup mode, not a repair utility. The Galaxy A57 loads Android and Samsung system software while preventing downloaded third-party apps from running. The lower-left corner displays Safe mode when the startup succeeded. Because the suspected apps are inactive, you can use the phone and check whether the original symptom still occurs.
There are two useful outcomes:
- The problem disappears: a downloaded or otherwise third-party app is likely involved. Safe Mode does not identify the exact app; you narrow the list by uninstalling candidates individually and testing after every restart.
- The problem continues: Google’s Android guidance says an app is less likely to be the cause. Look at system updates, available storage, settings, or possible hardware faults, and contact Samsung support if the checks do not help.
Samsung describes the purpose of the mode as preventing third-party apps from running so that you can isolate and remove an app causing trouble. Menu names and screen layouts can vary with your wireless provider, model variant, and One UI version.

Before you restart into Safe Mode
Record the symptom
Write down what happens, when it began, and what you were doing immediately beforehand. Note whether the phone freezes completely, reboots, displays ads outside a browser, becomes slow only on mobile data, or drains battery while idle. This gives you a repeatable test instead of relying on a vague impression.

Protect important data
Safe Mode does not intentionally erase your files, but a phone that is unstable can become harder to use. Save irreplaceable photos, documents, authenticator recovery codes, and other critical data before troubleshooting if the phone remains usable. Do not perform a factory reset as a first step; a reset erases the phone’s data and settings.
Make a short candidate list
Think of apps installed or updated just before the first failure, apps from unfamiliar publishers, and apps whose permissions or behavior do not match their purpose. Do not assume an unfamiliar name is malicious: Android and Samsung components can have technical names. Concentrate on downloaded apps and verify the publisher before removing anything.
How to start Safe Mode on the Galaxy A57
Open the power controls from Quick Settings
- Swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers to open the full Quick Settings panel.
- Tap the Power icon. Depending on the software build, the icon may be at the top of the panel.
- Touch and hold Power off in the power menu until Safe mode appears.
- Tap Safe mode, then confirm the restart when prompted.
Open the power controls with the hardware buttons
- Press and hold the Side/Power button and Volume down together until the power controls appear.
- Touch and hold Power off.
- Tap Safe mode and confirm.
The phone restarts. Wait for the lock screen, unlock it, and check the lower-left corner for the Safe mode label. If the label is missing, the phone did not enter Safe Mode; repeat the procedure, making sure you hold Power off rather than tapping it briefly.

Test the original problem before changing anything
Use the phone in Safe Mode long enough to exercise the feature that failed. If it froze while opening a particular screen, repeat that action. If it rebooted during charging, leave it connected and observe it. For pop-up ads, browse normally and watch whether advertisements appear over the home screen or other apps. For battery drain, check whether the unusual drop continues during a comparable period of ordinary use.

Do not treat one quiet minute as proof that the issue is gone. A crash that usually occurs several times a day may need longer observation. Also note that apps disabled by Safe Mode cannot be tested there; the purpose is to compare the phone’s behavior with third-party code excluded.
Interpret the Safe Mode result

Safe Mode is evidence, not a guarantee. A problem that happens only under a particular network, account, accessory, or workload may not appear during a short test. Record the conditions under which you tested so that your conclusion is based on comparable use.
Use Device care to prioritize candidates
The Galaxy A57 user guide includes diagnostics in Settings > Device care. Device care can show apps using excessive battery power, clear unnecessary files, close background apps, and scan for malware. Use these screens to decide which apps deserve attention first, but do not treat a ranking or scan as proof that an app caused the failure. Confirm the cause by removing one candidate and testing normally.
Check battery activity
- Open Settings.
- Tap Device care.
- Open the battery section and review apps with unusually high use compared with your normal pattern.
- Compare those names with your installation and update timeline and with the symptoms you recorded.
Review storage and background activity
Device care can identify unnecessary files and close background apps. These actions may improve a phone that is simply short on storage or running too many processes, but they do not establish that a particular app is defective. Keep the candidate list focused on downloaded apps that match the timing and behavior of the problem.
Run the available security scan
If Device care offers a malware scan, let it complete and note any result. A clean result does not rule out a buggy, intrusive, or incompatible app, and a warning still requires you to identify the app and decide whether removing it is safe.

Uninstall suspected apps one at a time
Start with the strongest candidate
Rank candidates using four signals: installation or update timing, whether the symptom disappears after removal, whether the publisher is legitimate, and whether the app requests permissions unrelated to its stated function. Give priority to downloaded third-party apps installed or updated immediately before the trouble began. Avoid removing core Samsung or Android components merely because their names look unfamiliar.
Remove one app from Settings
- While still in Safe Mode, open Settings.
- Tap Apps to view installed applications.
- Select the candidate app. Confirm its name, icon, publisher, and recent update information before proceeding.
- Tap Uninstall, then confirm the removal.
- Restart the phone normally.
- Reproduce the original symptom under similar conditions.
Google’s Android guidance is to remove recently downloaded apps one by one, restart normally after each removal, and check whether that removal solved the problem. Following that order preserves evidence: if you remove several apps together, you cannot tell which one mattered and may lose a needed app unnecessarily.
Keep a simple test record

After a removal, allow enough ordinary use to test the original failure. If the symptom stops, reinstalling the same app immediately can bring the problem back, so first confirm that the phone remains stable. If nothing changes, continue with the next candidate rather than deleting multiple apps at once.
How to compare candidates without guessing
When several apps look suspicious, use the same decision criteria for each one. Installation timing is useful because an app added shortly before the first crash has a stronger temporal connection than an app that has run reliably for months. Update timing matters too: a long-standing app can become problematic after a recent update.

No single criterion proves causation. The strongest practical confirmation is that the symptom disappears after removing one downloaded app and restarting normally.

Leave Safe Mode and restore normal use
Restart normally
- Press the Side/Power and Volume down buttons together, or open Quick Settings and tap the Power icon.
- Choose Restart and allow the phone to boot without selecting Safe Mode.
- Confirm that the lower-left Safe mode label is gone.
Use the notification when available
Samsung also documents turning Safe Mode off from the Safe mode is on notification when that notification provides an off or restart option. If that control is not shown, use a normal restart.
Restore widgets
Home-screen widgets may need to be added again after leaving Safe Mode. This does not mean the widgets caused the original problem; Safe Mode can temporarily alter what is available on the home screen while third-party software is disabled.
If an app will not uninstall
An app may refuse removal because it has device-administrator privileges or another special access. Do not keep tapping Uninstall or remove unrelated system packages. First identify the permission that blocks removal.
- Open Settings and search for Device admin apps, or look in the security and privacy settings for administrator controls.
- Review the listed administrators and select the app you are trying to remove.
- Deactivate its administrator privilege only if you recognize the app and understand what disabling it does.
- Return to Settings > Apps and try Uninstall again.
Menu labels and locations can differ by One UI release. If the app remains protected, the phone behaves suspiciously, or you cannot determine why the privilege exists, stop and contact Samsung support rather than disabling security controls at random.

Check software updates
Install any available system update through the phone’s software-update settings, then retest. The Galaxy A57 continues to receive One UI updates. Samsung’s current software notice for model SM-A576B lists Android 17, One UI 9, build A576BXXU6BZIE, released October 12, 2026, with a September 5, 2026 security patch. Your provider, region, and model variant may show a different build.

Check free storage
Very low free storage can contribute to slow operation and failed processes. Use Settings > Device care to review storage and remove files you no longer need. Keep personal backups before deleting anything important.
Review settings and accessories
Disconnect recently added accessories, remove a recently changed case that may press buttons, and test on a different network if the symptom is connection-specific. Review settings related to notifications, display overlays, battery optimization, and accessibility when the failure matches one of those functions.
Escalate to Samsung support
Contact Samsung support when the symptom is reproducible in Safe Mode, the phone cannot complete a normal restart, or you see signs of physical damage, overheating, charging failure, or repeated boot loops. Provide the exact symptom, Safe Mode result, software build, and steps already tried.

Factory reset is a last resort
A factory reset removes all phone data and settings. It is appropriate only after you have backed up what you need, confirmed that less destructive steps failed, and accepted that you will need to set up the phone again. Because Safe Mode is specifically intended to isolate third-party apps, do not jump to a reset merely because one app was difficult to remove.
Use a reset only when the evidence supports it
- The problem persists after updates, storage cleanup, and removal of plausible third-party apps.
- You have backed up photos, contacts, messages, files, and authentication recovery information.
- You know the Samsung and Google account credentials required during setup.
- Samsung support recommends or confirms the reset for your situation.
If a reset is performed, test the phone before restoring every app. Reinstall applications gradually so that a returning symptom can be associated with the app added immediately before it reappears.

- Skipping the normal restart: the post-removal test must run with the phone outside Safe Mode.
- Trusting a single battery ranking: high use can reflect how often you used an app rather than a fault.
- Resetting without a backup: a factory reset erases data and settings.
- Ignoring software-version differences: provider and One UI updates can move controls or change their labels.
