To review Galaxy AI controls, open Settings > Galaxy AI, choose an available feature, and use its individual switch. Samsung allows many Galaxy AI functions to be disabled separately, but some are built into apps or system functions and cannot be turned off. Samsung’s support material does not establish that Galaxy AI generally drains battery or provide a battery-saving percentage, so verify the cause in your phone’s battery-usage screen before changing several settings.
What you can actually turn off
Galaxy AI is a collection of functions rather than one independent app. Depending on the phone, One UI version, language, carrier and region, it can include tools integrated into Samsung apps and system features. The current Samsung Germany feature overview says many functions can be deactivated one by one, while some cannot be disabled because they are integrated into an app or system function: Viele Galaxy AI Funktionen kannst du in den Einstellungen deines Galaxy Geräts einzeln deaktivieren. Einige AI Funktionen sind jedoch in bestimmte Apps oder Systemfunktionen integriert und lassen sich deshalb nicht ausschalten.
Samsung’s English translation of that statement is that many Galaxy AI functions can be disabled individually, but integrated functions cannot be switched off. Samsung’s feature overview was updated on 12 October 2026.
There is therefore no universal “turn off all AI” button that is guaranteed to remove every Galaxy AI process. The useful approach is to identify which controls your model exposes, disable only the functions you do not use, and then compare battery activity on the phone itself.
Before changing a setting
Galaxy AI menus are not identical on every Samsung phone. The feature list in Samsung’s overview is a snapshot, not a permanent inventory. Availability can differ for the following reasons:
#1 Best Overall
- PRIVACY DISPLAY: Automatically hide your screen from those beside you. The built-in privacy display can be preset¹ to turn on when receiving notifications, typing passwords, or using specific apps
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping
- NIGHTS, CAPTURED CLEARLY: From gigs to city lights, record and capture moments after dark with clarity using Nightography so your photos and videos stay crisp and clear on your Samsung Galaxy
- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
| Variable | What it can change |
|---|---|
| Phone model | Newer or higher-end models may expose functions that older models do not. |
| Android and One UI version | Menu names, switch locations and supported tools can change after an update. |
| Country or region | A function may be offered in one market but not another. |
| Mobile carrier | Carrier software can affect which features appear. |
| Language pack | Some AI tools require a supported language or downloadable language data. |
| Samsung account or internet access | Some functions require an account, a connection or online processing. |
Keep the phone’s model and software information available if a control is missing. If an update is offered, install it before concluding that your device lacks a setting; Samsung states that requirements and availability vary by model, operating system, One UI version, region, country and carrier. An update can also move a control, so search Settings for “Galaxy AI” after updating.
Make a note of the feature’s current state before changing it. If you later decide that battery life did not improve, restoring the original switch is easier when you know exactly what changed. Also remember that a feature may still appear in an app even after its settings switch is off; visibility in a menu is not proof that the feature is actively running in the background.
How to find Galaxy AI controls
- Open Settings. Use the Settings app from the app drawer, Quick Settings, or the gear icon.
- Open Galaxy AI. Scroll through the main Settings list or use the Settings search field and enter Galaxy AI. On supported software, the Galaxy AI page lists the functions available on that phone.
- Select the feature you want to review. Do not assume that a switch on this page controls every AI tool; each listed item can have its own control or information page.
- Read the description and change the switch shown for that feature. Turn off only the function you do not need. Some controls may be a toggle, while others may offer choices about how a feature works.
- Repeat for other listed functions. Return to the Galaxy AI list and review another item rather than looking for a hidden master switch.
- Use the phone normally and check battery activity later. A single change makes it easier to tell whether that setting affected your particular usage.
The exact control names are model- and software-dependent. If Settings search returns a feature but no off switch, it may be integrated into an app or system function. Samsung’s support guidance does not promise that every listed AI capability can be disabled.

For example, an AI tool may be offered from a keyboard, Gallery, camera or phone-call screen while its permission or processing option is listed elsewhere. Start with the Galaxy AI page, then follow the feature’s own description. If it sends you to another settings page, record that path so you can reverse the change later.
When an AI feature has no off switch
An integrated function can remain part of the app or system even when the Galaxy AI page contains no disable control. In that case, do not use an unrelated setting as a substitute or claim that the feature has been removed. You can usually stop invoking the tool by avoiding its button or app workflow, but that is different from disabling the underlying system integration.
Some phones also expose a processing-location option rather than an on/off control. The English Galaxy Z Fold6 user manual, for example, documents Process data only on device in Galaxy AI settings and notes that some features require online processing. That setting governs where eligible data is processed; it does not turn off Galaxy AI or guarantee that all network activity stops. It is a model-specific example, not a control that every Samsung owner should expect to see. Read the Galaxy Z Fold6 manual if you own that model and need to understand the option.

Processing locally can also have different performance or feature-availability consequences from processing online. The important distinction is location of processing, not a promise of lower battery use. If the setting is unavailable on your phone, do not try to reproduce it with a third-party utility.

Check whether Galaxy AI is really using significant battery
Before disabling several functions, establish what the phone reports as the source of the drain. Samsung’s Device Care guidance provides battery information and power-saving tools, while warning that available options vary by model and software. Open Settings and search for Battery. Depending on One UI, the relevant page may be shown directly as Battery or inside Battery and device care. Open the battery-usage details and inspect the period in which you noticed the problem.
- Look for an AI-related app or service with unusually high foreground or background use.
- Compare the reported usage with screen-on time, mobile-network activity and the apps you actually used.
- Record the date, percentage consumed and the listed process before changing settings.
- Change one setting, use the phone under similar conditions, and check the same screen again.
Battery screens often rank several contributors, so a percentage beside one entry is not a laboratory measurement of that feature’s total power demand. Screen brightness, time spent watching video, camera use, gaming, calls, synchronization and poor reception can dominate the same period. Check whether the entry is foreground activity, background activity or network use, and compare it with your normal routine.
This is a diagnostic test, not a promise of savings. The Samsung material reviewed for this guide does not publish a feature-by-feature power comparison, a laboratory measurement, or a percentage of battery saved by disabling any Galaxy AI control. If Galaxy AI does not appear in the battery list, that does not prove it uses no power; it means the phone has not identified it as a separately reportable top consumer in the period shown.
Use Samsung’s other battery controls when the evidence points elsewhere
Limit unused background apps
If battery details identify an ordinary app rather than an AI service, use Samsung’s built-in sleeping-app controls. Samsung explains that unused apps can be placed in sleeping or deep-sleeping states so they do less background work. Open Settings and search for Sleeping apps or Background usage limits; the exact label depends on the software version. Add apps you rarely need to run in the background, but do not put messaging, alarm, navigation or other time-sensitive apps to sleep unless you accept delayed notifications or updates. Samsung’s sleeping-app guidance describes the available categories and their effects.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUse these limits selectively. A deep-sleep setting is useful for an app opened only occasionally, but it can prevent that app from refreshing until you launch it. If a battery complaint began after installing or updating one app, test that app first instead of placing every application into deep sleep. This keeps notifications and scheduled work intact for the services you actually depend on.

Investigate 5G usage
Samsung identifies 5G service as one possible contributor to faster battery use in some circumstances. This does not mean 5G is always the cause, and it should not be used as proof that Galaxy AI is responsible. If the battery screen shows heavy mobile-network activity, compare your normal 5G use with a period on an available lower-generation network setting, following your carrier’s instructions. Signal strength, network availability and the amount of data being transferred can affect the result. Samsung’s 5G battery troubleshooting page explains the issue and the limitations of that diagnosis.
Make the comparison in a place and during activities that are reasonably similar. A weak indoor signal, travel between coverage areas or a large download can make one day look worse than another. If your carrier or model does not offer a lower-generation choice, simply record mobile-network activity as a possible factor rather than forcing a setting that the phone does not support.
Use power-saving mode deliberately
Device Care may offer a power-saving mode or optimization action. Treat it as a broad battery-management choice, not a Galaxy AI switch: it can affect background activity, performance, synchronization or other phone behavior. Check the options displayed on your model before enabling it, especially if you rely on real-time notifications or maximum performance. Samsung notes that Device Care features differ by model and software. See Samsung’s Device Care instructions for the current description of battery information and power-saving options.

A practical test for suspected Galaxy AI drain
Use a controlled comparison instead of turning off every feature at once. This preserves a useful baseline and prevents you from blaming an unrelated change.
- Capture a baseline. Note battery percentage, screen-on time, mobile-network condition and the top entries in Battery usage.
- Choose one available Galaxy AI switch. Turn off the feature you do not use through Settings > Galaxy AI, and leave other settings unchanged.
- Repeat a comparable activity period. Similar screen brightness, signal conditions and apps make the comparison more meaningful than comparing two unrelated days.
- Review Battery usage again. Check whether the same process appears, whether its share changed, and whether another app or the network became the larger consumer.
- Keep or restore the setting based on usefulness. If there is no observable difference, restore the feature if you prefer it; if the phone reports a change and you do not need the tool, leave it off.
Short tests can be noisy. Travel, weak reception, a software update, high screen brightness, camera use, gaming, video calls and background synchronization can all change a day’s result. Treat the phone’s usage history as evidence about your device, not as a universal measurement for every Samsung model.

For a cleaner test, avoid changing charging habits, display settings and network settings at the same time. Write down when the test starts and ends, and compare similar battery percentages rather than relying only on elapsed clock time. If the phone installs an update or reports unusual heat during the comparison, repeat the test after normal operation returns.
If “Galaxy AI” is missing from Settings
- Search Settings by name. The menu may be nested differently even when the feature is present.
- Check the model and software version. Samsung’s availability rules cover model, operating system and One UI version.
- Install an available system update. Reopen Settings and search again after the update finishes.
- Check country, carrier and language requirements. A supported feature may require a particular market, carrier configuration or language pack.
- Check account and connection requirements. Some functions need a Samsung account, internet access or a supported service.
- Accept that a control may not exist. If the function is integrated into an app or system service, Samsung may not provide an individual off switch.
Do not install an unofficial configuration tool simply to expose a switch that Samsung does not provide. Such tools can create new background activity, interfere with updates or make troubleshooting harder.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not trust alarming battery-fixer pop-ups
A browser page or third-party app that claims your Samsung phone has an urgent battery problem may be trying to make you download software. Samsung warns that some apps display false battery-drain alerts to induce installations. Close the warning, avoid downloading an unknown “cleaner” or “battery fixer,” and use Settings or Device Care to inspect unusual usage instead. Device Care can also help scan for threats and review recently installed apps. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance for slow devices, freezes and ads explains this warning pattern.
If the warning keeps returning, consider whether it began after a recently installed third-party app. Samsung’s built-in checks are a safer first step than granting an unfamiliar utility access to battery statistics, notifications or device-administration controls. Remove only software you recognize as unwanted, and keep your normal backup and account-recovery options available.
What the evidence does—and does not—show
| Question | Supported answer |
|---|---|
| Where should I start? | Settings > Galaxy AI, then select an individual feature. |
| Can every Galaxy AI function be disabled? | No. Samsung says many can be disabled separately, while some are integrated into apps or system functions. |
| Is Galaxy AI proven to drain battery in general? | No. The reviewed Samsung pages do not establish a category-wide drain diagnosis. |
| How much battery will I save? | No official percentage or feature-by-feature measurement is provided. |
| What should I do if battery use remains high? | Inspect Battery or Device Care details, then investigate background apps, 5G and other activity identified by the phone. |
| Does “Process data only on device” disable AI? | No. On the Galaxy Z Fold6 manual’s model-specific setting, it controls processing location where available. |
The safest conclusion is conditional: disable an individual Galaxy AI function when your model offers the switch and you do not need it, but regard battery drain as a hypothesis until Battery or Device Care data connects the symptom to that function. If the phone continues to lose power unusually quickly after background and network checks, the evidence points beyond the Galaxy AI menu and may require Samsung’s normal battery-health or support diagnostics.

Only apps you rarely need in the background. Sleeping or deep-sleeping apps can delay notifications and updates, so leave messaging, alarms and other time-sensitive apps unrestricted when necessary.
A pop-up says my battery is damaged. Should I install its fixer app?
No. Samsung warns that some apps use false battery-drain alerts to induce downloads. Close the warning and use Settings or Device Care to inspect battery use and scan for threats.
The Bottom Line
Start at Settings > Galaxy AI and disable only the individual functions your phone actually lets you switch off. Then use Battery or Device Care to test whether that change matters. If the usage data points elsewhere, investigate sleeping apps, 5G and broader power-saving options instead of assuming Galaxy AI is the cause. Avoid alarmist battery-fixer downloads, and remember that model, software, carrier and region determine which controls are available.
