Motor Wars is a GTA Online adversary mode, not a separate GTA 5 single-player activity. In classic Motor Wars, players drop from a Cargobob with only a sidearm and fight until the survivors win. Rockstar added a Cayo Perico version in 2025; its launch description specifies six shrinking areas. Exact availability, menu paths and payouts can change with Rockstar’s weekly updates, so check the current in-game activity list before you queue.
What happens in Motor Wars?
Rockstar’s description of classic Motor Wars sets up a drop into an active battlefield from an idling Cargobob. Players begin with only a sidearm, and the players left standing win. It is an adversary mode within GTA Online.

Rockstar later added a version set on Cayo Perico. The two versions should not be treated as identical: the launch announcement for Cayo Perico Motor Wars describes a shrinking play area, while the classic-mode description emphasizes the drop and survival. The available official descriptions do not establish that every classic arena uses shrinking zones.
How do you start Motor Wars?
For the Cayo Perico version, Rockstar’s July 2025 launch instructions pointed players to the Cayo Perico Series, Quick Join on the in-game iFruit, or a map blip at Terminal. Those were launch-period directions, not a guarantee that the activity remains in the same place or is currently available.

- Open the current GTA Online activity or series menus and look for Motor Wars or the Cayo Perico Series.
- If it is not listed, check Quick Join on the in-game iFruit and the relevant map activities.
- Confirm the activity is available in the current rotation before relying on an older menu path or payout announcement.
Rockstar’s official launch instructions did not provide a complete current menu path for classic Motor Wars. Nor do the official descriptions establish a complete list of classic arena names, coordinates, or spawn points. Avoid treating an unverified map point as an official location.

The six-area detail applies specifically to the Cayo Perico version as described at launch. It is not a verified rule for every Motor Wars arena.

Where should you land, and how do you survive?
Rockstar’s Cayo Perico description frames the available tactical choices around taking to the air, controlling roads, or moving through the underbrush. It does not name a best landing point, route, weapon, or vehicle, and it reports no comparative survival results. Use the following as practical deductions from the described mechanics and general combat awareness, not as a proven winning strategy.

- Keep track of the boundary and move toward the next safe area before it forces a rushed crossing. That follows from the documented shrinking-zone mechanic.
- Before choosing a route, assess terrain and the vehicles you can actually reach. The launch description highlights air, roads, and underbrush as options, but does not say one is always safer.
- Do not commit to a vehicle just because it offers speed or protection; the official description supplies no evidence that vehicles improve survival in every situation.
For either version: make decisions from what is in front of you
- Use available cover and watch likely approaches rather than crossing exposed ground without a reason.
- Prioritize getting equipped and reading nearby threats over chasing a specific loadout; the official material confirms only the sidearm start for classic mode and does not document an optimal weapon setup.
- Adapt to the version you entered. The six-area advice is specific to Cayo Perico’s launch description, not a universal classic-mode rule.
Are Motor Wars rewards or availability current?
Rockstar advertised 2X GTA$ and RP for the first two weeks of the Cayo Perico version’s launch in 2025. A separate 2022 event announcement also promoted double rewards for classic Motor Wars. Both are historical, time-limited promotions; neither confirms today’s payout or availability. Check Rockstar’s current weekly update or the in-game activity list for the live status.

Platform coverage does not establish that a particular activity is available in every current rotation. No special controller, headset, or accessory is documented as necessary for Motor Wars.
