Samsung Cloud device backups do not include Galaxy Gallery photos and videos. If you previously synced Gallery with OneDrive, look for those photos in the linked OneDrive account and download them from there. Samsung says that Gallery sync ended on September 30, 2026, but items synced before the shutdown remain available in OneDrive.
First, identify where the photos were stored
“Samsung Cloud” can mean a device backup or, less precisely, the former Gallery sync feature. They are different recovery routes. Samsung’s US guidance says a Samsung Cloud device backup can include items such as contacts, messages, call logs, settings, and app data, but not Gallery photos and videos. Gallery photos were synced through OneDrive instead.
- Photo was synced through Gallery before September 30, 2026: check the Microsoft account linked to Gallery in OneDrive.
- Photo was included in another photo service: check that service and its deleted-items folder.
- You need to restore other Galaxy data: use Samsung Cloud’s Restore data option; it will not retrieve Gallery photos that were not part of the backup.
Availability and menu wording can vary by carrier, country, device, and software version. Samsung says Samsung Cloud is unavailable on Verizon phones and tablets and in some countries.
Download photos previously synced to OneDrive
Use the Microsoft account that was linked to Samsung Gallery. Samsung says files synced before Gallery sync ended on September 30, 2026 remain in OneDrive and can be downloaded to a phone, tablet, or computer. New photos no longer sync through the ended Gallery feature.

- Open the OneDrive app on a phone or tablet, or open OneDrive on a computer, and sign in to the matching Microsoft account.
- Look in the Gallery folder or the OneDrive location where you saved the photo.
- Select the photo or video, open its options, and choose Download. On a phone, check the device’s downloaded files or gallery afterward.
If nothing appears, confirm the Microsoft account is the one linked to Gallery and search other OneDrive folders. A photo that was never synced, or was synced to a different account, will not be available through this route.
Restore a Samsung Cloud device backup
This is useful for supported device-backup data, not for Gallery photos. The categories available depend on the backup and device.

- On the Galaxy phone or tablet, open Settings.
- Tap your Samsung account name at the top of Settings.
- Open Samsung Cloud, then tap Restore data.
- Select the backup you want, review the available data types, and follow the prompts.
Recover a photo that was deleted from OneDrive
Check the OneDrive Recycle bin promptly. Samsung says deleted photos and videos remain there for 93 days.

- Open OneDrive and select the profile menu.
- Choose Recycle bin.
- Find the photo or video, open its options, and select Restore.
If the item is no longer in the Recycle bin, it may have passed the stated retention period or may have been deleted from another account or location.

Check Gallery and Google Photos deleted items
Samsung Gallery
Check Gallery’s Recycle bin or Trash for the deleted photo. Samsung’s cited regional guidance recommends this check but does not state a retention period, so do not assume a particular recovery window. Menu names can differ by software version.
Google Photos
Check Google Photos Trash and make sure the app is signed in to the Google account that held the photo. Samsung India’s August 30, 2024 guide says items in Google Photos Trash are permanently deleted after 60 days. That is regional support guidance; check the current app’s notice for the account and interface you use.

If the photo still is not there
- Verify that you are signed in to the correct Samsung, Microsoft, or Google account for the route you are checking.
- Confirm the photo was actually backed up or synced before it disappeared. A device backup cannot restore Gallery photos that Samsung Cloud did not include.
- Check whether the relevant Samsung Cloud feature is available for your carrier, country, device, and software version.
- If the photo was deleted, check the applicable Recycle bin or Trash before its retention period expires.
An OTG drive or other external storage is an optional place to copy recovered files, not a way to retrieve cloud-only photos. Support for external storage varies by Galaxy model.
