To reopen a tab left open on another device, use Chrome’s synced-tabs view. On a computer, open More (⋮) > History > History, then choose Tabs from other devices. On Android, open More (⋮) > Recent tabs. Both devices must use the same Google Account in Chrome, and Chrome sync must include History and tabs.
What Chrome’s cross-device tab feature does
Chrome can show tabs that remain open on another signed-in device through its synchronization system. You open the page from the receiving device; you do not have to email yourself a link or copy the address manually. The computer interface calls the list Tabs from other devices, while Android places the same kind of information under Recent tabs.
This is access to tabs represented in Chrome’s synced data, not a guaranteed backup of every browser session. A tab that was closed, cleared, never synchronized, or opened in a context that Chrome does not sync may not be recoverable from this view.

How the feature works in practice
There are two parts to the process. First, Chrome on the source device records the relevant browsing and tab information in the Google Account’s Chrome sync data. Second, Chrome on the receiving device reads that synchronized information and presents links grouped by device. The receiving device is not remotely controlling the other computer or phone; selecting an entry simply opens the page locally.

That distinction explains why the list can be incomplete or delayed. The source device must be using Chrome with the right account and sync settings, and its latest state must reach Google’s sync service. A device that is shut down, offline, signed out, or using a different account cannot be expected to provide a current list immediately.
Chrome’s labels vary by platform. On desktop, the dedicated navigation item is Tabs from other devices. On Android, Google describes the route as Recent tabs, and the Android tab switcher can search across available tabs. Do not keep looking for the exact desktop label in the Android menus.
Check these requirements first
- Use the same Google Account in Chrome on both devices. Being signed in to a Google website is not by itself the same as enabling Chrome sync. Google explains the distinction in its Chrome sign-in and sync guidance.
- Enable the correct sync category. Chrome’s desktop instructions specifically identify History and tabs as the setting needed for cross-device history and tab access. See Google’s computer instructions for syncing Chrome data.
- Keep the source device signed in and connected long enough to sync. The tab has to be represented in the source device’s synchronized Chrome data before another device can display it.
- Know whether a sync passphrase is in use. Google’s Android help documents a limitation for passphrase users: sites visited on another device may only be findable when their addresses were typed into the address bar.
If you are setting this up on a new computer, sign in to Chrome with the account used on the old device, then review Settings > You and Google > [account name] and make sure History and tabs is enabled.
Check the account on the source device as well as the receiving device. It is common to have a personal Google Account in one Chrome profile and a work or school account in another. Chrome treats those profiles as separate sync scopes, even when both accounts belong to the same person.
Find tabs from another device on a computer
The desktop route works in Chrome on supported computer operating systems. The names below are the labels used in Google’s current computer help.
- Open Chrome and verify the account. Select your profile icon near the top-right corner. Confirm that the account is the same one active on the device where the tab is open.
- Open the full History page. Select More (⋮), choose History, and then choose History again. The first menu item opens a submenu; the second opens the complete history manager.
- Select the device-tab view. In the left-hand navigation, select Tabs from other devices. Chrome lists tabs associated with other devices using that account.
- Reopen the page. Click the listed page. Chrome opens it in a new tab or brings it into the current browser window according to your current tab behavior.
If Tabs from other devices is missing, do not assume the tabs are gone. First check the account and the History and tabs sync category on both devices. The relevant account and sync controls are described in Chrome Help.
When many devices are connected, identify the source by its device heading rather than opening links at random. If a page appears under an old computer name, it may be the copy that was last synchronized from that computer. Opening the page on the receiving computer does not remove the original tab from the source device.

Find another device’s tabs on Android
- Open Chrome on the Android phone or tablet.
- Open the tab list. Tap More (⋮) > Recent tabs.
- Choose the other device’s page. Scroll to the appropriate device or entry and tap the tab to open it.
Android’s tab switcher can also search tabs, including tabs from other devices. Tap the tab-switcher button, use its search control, and enter a distinctive word from the page title or address. If the phone has several Chrome profiles or accounts, switch to the profile that uses the same Google Account as the source device before checking Recent tabs. Otherwise, the screen can look empty even though the tab is available under a different profile.
Send one tab directly to a device
If you already know which page you want to move, sending it is faster than browsing a long list of synchronized tabs.
- Open the page in Chrome on the source device.
- Select More (⋮) > Cast, save, and share > Send to your devices.
- Choose the destination device from the list.
- Open the notification or received link on the destination device.
Google’s Share tabs in Chrome instructions require both devices to be signed in to Chrome with the same Google Account. This workflow sends a selected page; it is separate from browsing the collection of tabs that are already open elsewhere.

Choose the right workflow

Choose the first route when you are returning to a group of pages, such as several articles or work tabs left open on a home computer. Choose Send to your devices when you can identify one exact page. Neither route is a substitute for saving a page that must remain available for a long time.
Troubleshoot missing or outdated tabs
The other-device list is not visible
- On the receiving device, open the Chrome profile menu and note the signed-in account.
- Repeat that check on the source device. A different account, even one belonging to the same person, creates a different sync scope.
- On the computer, open Settings > You and Google > [account name] and confirm that History and tabs is on. On Android, open Chrome settings and review the signed-in account and sync controls.
- Return to the History or Recent tabs screen after both devices have had a chance to synchronize.

Also make sure you are looking at the full history manager on a computer. The short History menu is not the same screen as the left-hand Tabs from other devices view. On Android, check Recent tabs rather than only the local tab grid.
The list appears, but it is stale
A stale list usually means the source device has not uploaded its latest tab state, the device is offline, or synchronization is paused. Open Chrome on the source device, verify its account, reconnect it to the internet, and leave Chrome open briefly. Then refresh the receiving device’s History or Recent tabs view. If the source tab was closed before its state synchronized, it may not remain available.

Do not repeatedly clear Chrome data while troubleshooting. Clearing local history or signing out can remove information you were trying to inspect and does not restore a tab that was never synchronized. Check the account and sync category first.
You are signed in, but synchronization is not active
Signing in to a Google service in a browser does not automatically prove that Chrome’s tab and history sync is enabled. The setting that matters here is Chrome’s own History and tabs control. Turn on that category rather than assuming that bookmarks, passwords, or another category will carry open tabs.
After enabling the category, give both devices time to exchange data, then reopen the destination view. If the account is managed by an organization, available Chrome settings can differ, so use the controls shown in that Chrome profile instead of assuming another profile’s settings apply.

Google’s Android documentation says that users with a sync passphrase will find sites visited on other devices only when they typed the web addresses into the address bar. That condition can make cross-device history look incomplete. It does not establish that every open tab will be recoverable, so treat a missing entry as a sync-visibility limitation rather than evidence that the page never existed.
If you regularly rely on cross-device access, note whether a passphrase is active before diagnosing a missing page. For an important URL, use Send to your devices or save a bookmark while the source tab is available.
The tab was opened in Incognito
Google states that you cannot sign in to Chrome while browsing in Incognito mode; see Sign in to Chrome. Do not expect Incognito tabs to appear in another device’s synchronized-tab list. Use a normal Chrome window when you need a page to participate in cross-device tab syncing.
Incognito is designed for a separate, private browsing context. Treat its tabs as temporary and copy or save any address you need before closing that window.
The source device was reset, the session was cleared, or the tab was closed
The documented feature exposes tabs represented in synchronized Chrome data. Google’s help does not promise restoration of sessions that were closed, cleared, or otherwise no longer represented on the source device. If a page is important, send it directly with Send to your devices, bookmark it, or save its address before closing the source session.

This limitation matters during a computer or phone replacement. Signing in on the new device can reveal what remains in sync, but it cannot recreate unsaved form entries, a closed private window, or a complete window arrangement that is no longer represented in Chrome’s available data.
The menu wording is different
Platform labels are not identical. Desktop Chrome uses Tabs from other devices; Android uses Recent tabs and offers tab-switcher search. Follow the instructions for the platform on which you are trying to reopen the page rather than looking for the desktop label on Android.
Chrome’s interface can also place commands in a submenu. On desktop, open History once to expose the second History command, then use the full page’s left navigation. On Android, use the three-dot menu from Chrome itself, not a device-wide Android settings screen.
Moving from an old computer or phone
For a device replacement, first sign in to Chrome on the new device with the account that was active on the old one. Then enable History and tabs sync and use the platform-specific path above. This can expose tabs that remain open on the old device, but it is not a complete session-transfer mechanism: window grouping, unsaved form contents, Incognito windows, and tabs no longer present in synchronized data are not promised to return.
If the old device is still available, open the important pages there and use Send to your devices one at a time. That creates an explicit handoff instead of relying on the receiving device to discover every entry in the synced list.
Before wiping the old device, verify the pages you need on the new one. Open several entries, confirm that the expected content loads, and bookmark anything that must remain accessible. This is safer than assuming that a successful Chrome sign-in means every old window has been transferred.

Cross-device tabs are tied to the Google Account and Chrome profile used for synchronization. Someone using the same account on another device may be able to see synchronized browsing information that the account shares. Use separate Chrome profiles or accounts when personal and work browsing should remain separated.

The feature also does not merge unrelated accounts. A personal account on a phone and a school or employer account on a laptop produce separate tab lists. If a tab appears to be missing, account identity is the first boundary to check.

Keep cross-device tabs dependable
- Use one Google Account consistently for Chrome on the devices you want connected.
- Leave History and tabs enabled when you depend on the feature.
- Use normal browsing windows for pages that must be visible on another device.
- For a critical page, send it directly or bookmark it instead of treating synced tabs as permanent storage.
- When a new device shows no entries, check account identity and sync settings before reinstalling Chrome or deleting local data.
- Before retiring a device, explicitly send or bookmark pages that contain work you cannot easily recreate.
These practices align with Google’s computer and Android synchronization guidance: computer and Android.
What this feature does not guarantee
- It does not guarantee recovery of a closed or cleared browsing session.
- It does not make Incognito tabs part of your normal synced-tab list.
- It does not bypass account separation: two devices using different Google Accounts will not share the same tab list.
- It does not ensure complete visibility when a sync passphrase limits the history data available to Chrome.
- It does not replace a deliberate backup or bookmark for work you cannot afford to lose.
- It does not promise that unsaved text, form contents, window layout, or every old session will reappear on a replacement device.
For the ordinary case—a normal Chrome tab left open on a signed-in, synchronized device—the fastest answer is simple: use Tabs from other devices on a computer or Recent tabs on Android, then tap or click the page you need.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I see Tabs from other devices in Chrome?
Check that Chrome, not just a Google website, is signed in to the same Google Account on both devices. Then enable the History and tabs sync category and allow the source device to synchronize. On a computer, use the full History page; on Android, check More > Recent tabs.

Yes, if the old tabs are still represented in Chrome’s synchronized data. Sign in to Chrome on the new phone with the old phone’s Google Account, enable the relevant sync setting, and use More > Recent tabs. This is not guaranteed to restore closed tabs, Incognito tabs, or a complete session.
How do I send one Chrome tab to another device?
Open the page, choose More > Cast, save, and share > Send to your devices, and select the destination. Both devices must be signed in to Chrome with the same Google Account.
Will Incognito tabs appear on my other devices?
Do not expect them to. Google says you cannot sign in to Chrome while browsing in Incognito mode, and Incognito tabs are not promised as part of the normal synchronized-tab list.
Does Chrome restore my entire window or session?
No guarantee is made for full session restoration. Synced tabs provide access to pages represented in Chrome’s synchronized data; they do not promise window grouping, unsaved form contents, closed sessions, or tabs that were cleared or never synchronized.
What does a sync passphrase change?
Google’s Android help says that with a sync passphrase, sites visited on other devices may only be findable when their addresses were typed into the address bar. That can make cross-device history appear incomplete.
Can two different Google Accounts share Chrome tabs?
No. The devices need to use the same Google Account in Chrome. Separate personal, work, or school accounts have separate synchronization scopes.

On a computer, open More > History > History > Tabs from other devices. On Android, use More > Recent tabs. Sign in to Chrome with the same Google Account on both devices and enable History and tabs. For one specific page, use Send to your devices; for anything important, bookmark or save it because synced tabs are not a guaranteed backup.
