There is no Pilotwings-style flying mode in Nintendo Switch Sports. Nintendo’s published activity lineup contains seven sports—Golf, Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton and Chambara—and no aircraft, island flight or free-flight activity. That means there is no menu path, unlock condition, downloadable add-on or controller trick that starts the flying mode described in the question.
The confusion appears to come from two similarly named products: a TechRadar preview dated October 7, 2026, describes a Pilotwings-like “Prop Plane mode” in the separate Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, while Nintendo also lists Pilot Sports as a standalone Switch flight game. Neither is a hidden mode inside Nintendo Switch Sports.
What you can—and cannot—play in Nintendo Switch Sports
Nintendo Switch Sports is a collection of motion-controlled sports, not a general-purpose island or flight game. Nintendo of America’s activity overview, published November 28, 2022, identifies seven sports:

- Golf
- Soccer
- Volleyball
- Bowling
- Tennis
- Badminton
- Chambara
There is no airplane, propeller plane, jetpack, hang-glider, parachute or free-flight activity in that documented lineup. Because the game does not contain the activity, you cannot reach it by progressing through ranks, completing a challenge, buying an accessory or changing a controller setting.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Why an ordinary menu search will not work
The sports list is the relevant content boundary. Looking through the main activity selector, local play, online play or training options will show variations of those seven sports, but not a flight selection. A software update or Nintendo Switch Online membership can affect supported features and online access; neither adds an undocumented aircraft mode to this game.
This also explains why repeated searches can be misleading. A screenshot may show an island, a character in the air or a propeller aircraft, but an image alone does not identify the software that produced it. Check the complete game title before treating any screen as proof of a hidden activity.
What “Pilotwings-style” does not mean here
The phrase can describe a style of relaxed, third-person flying, but it does not identify a mode that Nintendo has announced for Nintendo Switch Sports. Treat references to a plane, island tour or propeller aircraft as a possible title mix-up unless the reference explicitly names a different game.
The similarly named game causing the confusion
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is a distinct title from Nintendo Switch Sports. A TechRadar preview dated October 7, 2026, describes a Pilotwings-like “Prop Plane mode” in Resort. That report is useful for identifying the likely source of the rumor, but it does not provide a verified sequence of menus or buttons for launching the mode.
Do not apply unverified Resort instructions to Sports
Because the names are similar, online posts may omit “Resort” and make the feature sound as if it belongs to the original game. They are not interchangeable products. A navigation sequence for Resort, even if one is later confirmed, would not create a flight option in Nintendo Switch Sports.
Do not assume that a shared logo, character design or island setting means the two games use the same menus. Product names are the safest way to distinguish them. If a guide says only “Nintendo Switch Sports” while discussing a plane, ask whether “Resort” has been left out.
What is established about Prop Plane mode
The available preview establishes only that the separate Resort title has been reported with a Pilotwings-like Prop Plane activity. It does not establish whether the mode is available immediately, unlocked through progress, restricted to a particular play style, or accessed from a particular menu. Do not rely on a guessed button combination or a walkthrough that silently changes the game title.
That limitation matters for anyone trying to buy the correct game. The report identifies a likely destination for people seeking relaxed plane exploration, but it is not an access guide. Until an official or otherwise verified walkthrough supplies the exact sequence, the responsible instruction is to identify Resort as the separate title and avoid promising a particular unlock.

How to check which game you actually own
Before looking for a flight activity, confirm the title shown on your console. On the Nintendo Switch HOME screen, highlight the software icon and read its full name. If the title is Nintendo Switch Sports, the seven-sport lineup above is the one that applies. If it explicitly says Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, you are using the separate product associated with the Prop Plane report.
- Return to the Nintendo Switch HOME screen.
- Highlight the game icon without starting it and read the title displayed for the selected software.
- Open the software information panel if you need to distinguish two similarly named icons or check which physical card is inserted.
- Use instructions written for that exact title only. Do not install an unofficial “unlock,” modify save data or assume downloadable content exists for the original game.
If you use a physical copy, read the title printed on the game card packaging as well as the HOME-screen icon. A retailer listing, thumbnail or social-media caption can shorten a name, whereas the console’s software title identifies what is actually installed or inserted.
The title check matters more than searching every submenu: no menu search inside Nintendo Switch Sports can reveal a mode that is not part of its published activities.
If you own Nintendo Switch Sports and want to fly
There is no supported way to turn the existing game into a flight simulator. The following common ideas do not unlock one:
- Completing every sport: progression remains within Golf, Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton and Chambara.
- Joining Nintendo Switch Online: membership enables online play; it does not add flight content.
- Buying a Leg Strap: Nintendo identifies the Leg Strap as an accessory for Soccer. Nothing in Nintendo’s support information connects it with aircraft or flying.
- Switching to a different controller: controller choice affects how supported sports are played, not which sports exist.
- Using Handheld Mode: the game does not support Handheld Mode, and changing the console’s physical configuration does not expose a hidden activity.
- Waiting for a special rank or event: no documented rank, challenge, event or reward adds a flight sport to the seven-activity lineup.
- Searching online lobbies: online matchmaking changes how you play the listed sports; it is not a separate catalog of experimental activities.
If a video claims that a secret code, a specific number of wins or a controller calibration step reveals a plane in Nintendo Switch Sports, it conflicts with Nintendo’s documented activity list. Do not risk your save data or spend money on an accessory based on such a claim.
The actual flight-game alternative: Pilot Sports
Nintendo’s Pilot Sports product listing describes a separate Nintendo Switch game built around flight courses. Its aircraft and equipment include airplanes, jetpacks, hang-gliders and parachutes. This is a dedicated flight title, not downloadable content for Nintendo Switch Sports and not evidence that the original sports collection contains a plane mode.
What Pilot Sports is suitable for
Choose this option when your goal is course-based flying and challenges using several kinds of aircraft or aerial equipment. The listing supports describing it as a Nintendo Switch flying game, but it does not establish that it reproduces the reported island tour or Prop Plane activity from Nintendo Switch Sports Resort.

That distinction helps set expectations. If you want structured courses and the ability to switch among airplanes, jetpacks, hang-gliders and parachutes, Pilot Sports is the clearly documented match. If you specifically want the reported Resort plane experience, do not assume the two games offer identical maps, objectives or controls.

How it is sold
Nintendo lists both a Nintendo Switch Game Card edition and a digital format for Pilot Sports. Availability can vary by region and date, so check the listing for your territory before purchasing. The evidence does not establish retailer inventory, promotional pricing or any particular store’s stock.
No price, discount, subscription or accessory requirement should be inferred from the product format alone. A Game Card and a digital purchase are simply two listed ways to obtain the separate game. Confirm the edition, region and storage requirements shown by the retailer or Nintendo eShop at the time you buy.
Choosing between the three relevant products
| Product | What its documented or reported content includes | Best fit for | Evidence status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch Sports | Seven sports: Golf, Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton and Chambara; no flying activity listed | Motion-controlled sports matches | Nintendo activity overview, November 28, 2022 |
| Nintendo Switch Sports Resort | A Pilotwings-like “Prop Plane mode” is described in a recent preview | Readers specifically seeking the reported Resort flight feature | TechRadar preview, October 7, 2026; exact access steps are not established |
| Pilot Sports | Flight courses using airplanes, jetpacks, hang-gliders and parachutes; Game Card and digital formats listed | Standalone course-and-challenge flying | Nintendo UK product listing |
The table separates confirmed product scope from reported preview material. In particular, “Prop Plane mode” belongs to the separate Resort title in the available reporting, while the aircraft list belongs to Pilot Sports.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose by the experience, not just the name
- Already own Nintendo Switch Sports: keep it for the seven motion-controlled sports; do not expect a flight menu.
- Want the reported casual plane activity: investigate Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, but verify its access instructions independently because the preview does not supply them.
- Want several aerial vehicles and defined courses: consider Pilot Sports, whose Nintendo listing names those vehicles and lists both physical and digital formats.
These are different purchase decisions. Buying Pilot Sports will not add content to Nintendo Switch Sports, and owning Nintendo Switch Sports does not grant access to Resort or its reported Prop Plane mode.
Controller and console requirements for Nintendo Switch Sports
If you continue playing the sports collection, Nintendo Support identifies these supported control arrangements, depending on the sport:
- Paired Joy-Con 2 controllers or paired Joy-Con controllers
- A single Joy-Con 2 controller or single Joy-Con controller
- A Joy-Con controller used with the Leg Strap for supported Soccer play
Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controllers and Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers are not compatible with Nintendo Switch Sports. The game also does not support Handheld Mode. Nintendo recommends TV Mode for the best experience, because the supported sports rely on detached motion controllers rather than controls built into the handheld screen.
Why these requirements do not reveal a flight mode
Controller compatibility describes how the seven existing sports receive motion input. It is not a list of hidden activities. A paired Joy-Con, a single Joy-Con or the Soccer Leg Strap cannot add an aircraft activity, and a Pro Controller cannot be substituted to access one.
Recommended Free Tools
The Leg Strap deserves particular caution. It is mentioned by Nintendo for supported Soccer play, not as a flight accessory. Buying one for the purpose of flying has no documented basis.

Online play and the Nintendo Switch Online requirement
Nintendo Support says an active Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online play in Nintendo Switch Sports. Without membership, selecting Play Globally provides a trial competition against computer-controlled opponents. That trial is an online-feature fallback, not a flight demonstration or a way to unlock additional sports.
What membership changes
- With an active membership, you can use the game’s supported online play.
- Without membership, the Play Globally trial lets you compete against computer opponents.
- Neither condition adds a plane, Prop Plane mode or free-flight activity to the original game.
Do not purchase a subscription solely because a guide says online access is required to find flying content. The membership requirement applies to online play, not to a hidden flight menu. If your only goal is to check whether the original game has a plane sport, the documented seven-sport list answers that question without an online subscription.
A practical troubleshooting checklist
Use this checklist when a search result, video or friend says that a plane is available:
- Read the exact title. Confirm whether the reference says Nintendo Switch Sports, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort or Pilot Sports.
- Check the claimed source date. The seven-sport Nintendo overview is dated November 28, 2022; the Prop Plane report is a TechRadar preview dated October 7, 2026.
- Separate confirmed facts from reported features. The original game’s seven sports are documented by Nintendo. The Resort flight feature is reported, but its access sequence is not verified here.
- Ignore unlock-code claims for the original game. No documented menu path or progression requirement adds flying to Nintendo Switch Sports.
- Check the product format. A Pilot Sports Game Card or digital listing is a separate purchase, not an expansion for the sports collection.
- Match the purchase to your goal. Use the original game for its seven motion-controlled sports, investigate the distinct Resort title for the reported Prop Plane feature, or choose Pilot Sports for listed aircraft and flight courses.
- Match the controller to the correct game. The Joy-Con and TV-Mode requirements listed by Nintendo apply to Nintendo Switch Sports; do not assume they document controls for Resort or Pilot Sports.
What an accurate answer to the original question looks like
If someone asks how to find the Pilotwings-style flying mode in Nintendo Switch Sports, the accurate instructions are intentionally short: open the game’s activity list, recognize that it contains seven sports and no flying mode, and stop looking for an unlock path. Then identify whether the person meant Nintendo Switch Sports Resort or the separate Pilot Sports game.
For Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, the currently available preview identifies a Prop Plane mode but does not establish verified navigation steps. For Pilot Sports, Nintendo’s listing confirms a separate flight game with airplanes, jetpacks, hang-gliders and parachutes, available in Game Card and digital formats. Keeping those titles separate prevents a nonexistent menu path from being presented as a working instruction.
Common pitfalls when following online guides
Confusing a preview with a manual: A preview can describe a feature without documenting its final menu location, unlock rules or controller prompts. The Prop Plane report should therefore be treated as identification of a feature in Resort, not as a step-by-step guide.
Dropping the word “Resort”: Short video titles and social posts often trim product names. Recheck the full title before buying a game or following instructions.
Assuming shared hardware means shared content: Several Switch games can use Joy-Con controllers, but that does not mean a sport, vehicle or map transfers between them.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Paying for an unnecessary accessory: Nintendo’s Leg Strap reference concerns Soccer. Nothing connects it to the reported plane activity.
Expecting online play to add modes: Nintendo Switch Online changes access to supported online competition. It does not expand the original seven-sport catalog.
