Open the Xbox app on your Windows PC, sign in, and select My Library. That view is the main place to find games installed through Xbox, Game Pass, and supported PC storefronts. A supported-storefront installation can also appear in Most Recent in the sidebar. If you want to remove another storefront’s titles from the list, use Profile picture > Settings > Library & Extensions and turn that storefront off.

The Xbox app library is not the same as Windows’ general installed-app list or Microsoft Store’s ownership and download list. The right check depends on where the game came from and what you are trying to verify.

Start with My Library

Microsoft describes the Xbox PC app as a hub for purchased games, Game Pass titles, and games installed from other supported PC storefronts. Open the app, sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox activity, and choose My Library. The library aggregates titles from the Xbox library, Xbox Game Pass, Battle.net, and other leading PC storefronts that the app supports. Microsoft’s September 15, 2025 announcement says that when a game is installed from a supported storefront, it is added automatically to My Library and to Most Recent in the sidebar.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the library listing as a launch and organization view, not as proof that the Xbox app controls every file on your PC. A title can be installed locally while remaining absent from the Xbox app if its launcher is not supported, its storefront integration is disabled, or the app cannot associate the installation with a supported listing.

Microsoft’s announcement is available in Xbox Wire’s September 15, 2025 post. Microsoft later made the aggregated library available to everyone; the June 23, 2025 Xbox Insider announcement describes the earlier preview rather than a current limitation.

Find a game you have installed

  1. Open the Xbox app for Windows. Start the Xbox app from Windows and sign in. The app requires an account for its Xbox and Game Pass services, while a game installed by another storefront may still use that storefront’s own account when launched.
  2. Open My Library. Select My Library in the app navigation. Review the aggregated list for the installed title. Depending on the source, the entry may identify the game as part of your Xbox library, Game Pass, or a connected PC storefront.
  3. Check Most Recent. If you installed the title recently through a supported storefront, look at Most Recent in the sidebar. Microsoft says supported-storefront installations are added there as well as to My Library.
  4. Select the game entry. Use the title’s card or button to open its available launch action. For a game supplied by another launcher, the Xbox app may hand off to that launcher rather than replacing it.
  5. Confirm the source when the entry is unexpected. An aggregated listing does not necessarily mean that the Xbox app downloaded the files. Check the title’s associated launcher or account if you need to know which service owns the installation.

If the game is not listed after these checks, continue with the storefront and installation checks below instead of assuming that the files are missing.

What an Xbox library entry tells you

A card in My Library tells you that the Xbox app has a catalog entry it can associate with your account or with a supported storefront integration. It does not, by itself, prove that the title is fully downloaded, that the current files are healthy, or that the Xbox app is the service that installed them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Read the action offered on the game card carefully. An install action means local files still need to be downloaded. A launch action may open the Xbox app’s own installation or pass control to another launcher. A cloud-play option represents remote streaming rather than a local copy. These states can look similar in a combined library, so use the button and the game’s source to determine what will happen next.

Likewise, seeing a game in Most Recent is a convenience signal, not a separate installation record. It is useful for returning to a title you recently installed or opened, but My Library remains the primary view for browsing the complete aggregated list.

Control which storefronts appear

The Xbox app can make a single library look crowded when several PC storefront integrations are enabled. You can control the storefront lists without uninstalling any game.

  1. Select your profile picture in the Xbox app.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Open Library & Extensions.
  4. Find the storefront you no longer want represented in the Xbox library and toggle it off.
  5. Return to My Library and confirm that titles from the disabled listing no longer appear.

This setting changes what the Xbox app displays. It does not delete game files, cancel a subscription, remove ownership from the original storefront, or uninstall a title from Windows. To make those changes, use the service that installed the game.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Visibility controls are useful when you use several launchers but want the Xbox app to focus on a particular catalog. They are also a safe first step when troubleshooting clutter: disabling a listing is reversible, whereas deleting files or removing a launcher can affect updates and sign-in.

Use My Apps for storefront access

The Xbox Wire announcement also describes a My Apps tab within the library. It brings third-party apps and storefronts together so you can find, download, and launch games from multiple locations. Treat My Apps as an access hub: it does not mean that every third-party game is installed, updated, or managed by the Xbox app itself.

If selecting a game opens another launcher, that handoff is expected for a title whose files and account are handled by that service. Keep the relevant launcher installed and signed in when its game requires it. If the handoff stops at a sign-in screen, verify the account used by that storefront rather than repeatedly reinstalling the Xbox app.

What you are trying to verify Where to check What the result means
Find an Xbox, Game Pass, or supported-storefront listing Xbox app > My Library and Most Recent Shows titles that the Xbox app can associate with its Xbox or supported storefront integrations.
Hide a storefront’s titles Profile picture > Settings > Library & Extensions Disables that storefront’s listings in the Xbox app; it does not uninstall games.
Find a Microsoft Store purchase or download Microsoft Store > account-area More info > My Library Shows Store items associated with your Microsoft account and provides a download control for an item not yet downloaded.
Check whether Windows sees an app as installed Windows 11: Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps Confirms general Windows installation status, not whether the Xbox app recognizes the game.

The storefront is not supported

Microsoft consistently qualifies the automatic library feature as applying to supported storefronts. It does not promise that every PC launcher, independently copied game folder, or arbitrary executable will be imported. There is no universal Xbox-app command to select a folder and force detection for all unsupported sources.

If the game came from a storefront that is not represented in Library & Extensions, launch it through its original service and use Windows’ installed-app check if you only need to confirm that software is present. Avoid changing protected game folders or adding unofficial shortcuts based on forum instructions; those actions can break updates or permissions and are not a Microsoft-supported universal solution.

The storefront integration is disabled

A supported title can disappear from the aggregated view when its storefront toggle is off. Reopen Profile picture > Settings > Library & Extensions, enable the relevant listing, and then revisit My Library. The change affects visibility, not the installation itself.

You are checking the wrong account or service

Xbox app listings, Microsoft Store purchases, and third-party storefront ownership can involve separate account relationships. Make sure the Xbox app is signed in to the Microsoft account you intend to use. For a game from another storefront, also sign in to that storefront’s launcher. A title owned by a different account may not be available merely because its files are on the same Windows drive.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Account checks are especially important after changing email addresses, family accounts, or Game Pass plans. Sign out only when necessary, and record which account owns the game before making changes. Reinstalling does not transfer ownership between accounts.

The game was never downloaded locally

An item in a library can represent ownership or access without being installed. If you see the title in the Xbox app but cannot launch it locally, check whether the app offers an install action and whether enough storage is available. Do not confuse a cloud-play option with a local installation; those are separate ways to play.

The installation exists but the app has not associated it

For supported storefronts, automatic appearance is the intended behavior, but Microsoft does not publish a single manual “locate game folder” procedure that works for every launcher. Confirm that the game is installed through the supported storefront, that the storefront integration remains enabled, and that you are viewing the current account and library. If those conditions are true and the title remains absent, use the storefront’s support channel for an integration-specific problem rather than modifying protected files.

Check Microsoft Store when a Store game is missing

Microsoft Store has its own library, separate from the Xbox app’s aggregated view. Use it when you bought or claimed an app or game through Microsoft Store and it is not visible as a downloaded item.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Microsoft Store.
  2. Select More info near your account picture.
  3. Choose My Library.
  4. Locate the item and select its Download icon if it has not been downloaded.
  5. If the item is not in the library, check Order history for the account and purchase record.

This route answers “Can this Microsoft account download the Store item?” It does not guarantee that the title will appear in the Xbox app’s My Library, because the two interfaces serve different catalog and installation functions.

Check the account picture before interpreting an empty Store library. A purchase made under another Microsoft account will not appear merely because you are using the same Windows profile. Order history can distinguish an ownership issue from a download issue.

Microsoft documents the Store path in Get trusted apps and games from Microsoft Store.

Confirm installation in Windows 11

When you only need to know whether Windows has an application installed, use Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. You can also search for the app from Start. Microsoft’s instructions are in How to check if an app or program is installed in Windows.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This list is broader than the Xbox library: it is a Windows inventory of installed applications, not a catalog of games recognized by Xbox. A game can appear there while remaining absent from My Library, and an Xbox library entry can represent a title that still needs to be downloaded.

Use this check when the question is simply “is software installed?” It will not tell you which storefront account owns a title, whether a launcher integration is enabled, or whether a game is eligible for cloud play. Those questions belong in the Xbox app, Microsoft Store, or the original launcher.

Installed play versus cloud streaming

The Xbox PC app supports two distinct access patterns. Installing a game downloads its files to the PC for local play. Cloud streaming runs a supported title remotely, which can reduce the initial download and help when local storage is limited, but it depends on a supported region, device, subscription, and title. Some cloud-playable games may also be sold separately.

Microsoft’s Windows 11 overview explains that Game Pass catalog size, available games, features, plan, platform, and region can change. Read the current availability shown in your account rather than treating a catalog description as a permanent number. Installing is the relevant choice when you need local files or want to play without a streaming connection; cloud play is the relevant choice when the title and account support streaming and you prefer to avoid a full local download.

These options can coexist in the Xbox app. Seeing a game in the library does not, by itself, tell you whether its current access method is a local installation, an installable subscription title, or a cloud-play option. If storage is tight, streaming may avoid a large download, but it does not create a local installation that another launcher can use.

Regional and version qualifications

The Windows 11 guidance cited here is written for the United States market and warns that features and availability vary by region. Storefront integrations, Game Pass titles, cloud-play support, and even the number of games shown can change by country, plan, device, and date. If a menu or title described here is absent, first check your app version, account region, and the service’s current eligibility before treating the difference as an installation fault.

The aggregated-library capability is available to everyone according to Microsoft’s September 15, 2025 announcement, but “available” does not mean universal recognition of every launcher. The supported-storefront qualification still applies.

A practical decision path

Use this order when you are unsure where to look:

  1. Want to launch a game you believe is installed? Open Xbox app > My Library, then check Most Recent.
  2. Want to remove clutter? Open Settings > Library & Extensions and disable the storefront listing, without uninstalling anything.
  3. Game came from Microsoft Store? Open Microsoft Store > My Library and use the download icon or check Order history.
  4. Only need proof that Windows installed it? Use Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  5. Game came from an unlisted launcher or copied folder? The Xbox app may not support automatic detection; use the original launcher and its support path.
  6. Game appears but will not play locally? Determine whether the entry is an installable title or a cloud option, then check the requirements and availability for your region and plan.

Common questions

Can I import any game folder into the Xbox app?

No universal import procedure is documented. Automatic appearance is limited to supported storefront integrations, so an arbitrary folder or unsupported launcher is not guaranteed to appear.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does hiding a storefront uninstall its games?

No. The Library & Extensions toggle controls the Xbox app’s listing only. Uninstalling must be done through the service that installed the game or through Windows’ app controls when applicable.

Why does a game show in My Library but not in Installed apps?

My Library can contain owned, subscribed, or cloud-accessible titles that are not downloaded. Windows’ Installed apps list is limited to software currently registered as installed on that PC.

Why can I see a Store item in Microsoft Store but not in Xbox My Library?

Microsoft Store My Library tracks Store account items and downloads, while Xbox My Library aggregates Xbox and supported-storefront game listings. They are separate catalogs with different purposes.

Why did a game disappear after I changed a setting?

Check Settings > Library & Extensions and turn the relevant storefront back on. A disabled listing removes its titles from the Xbox view without removing files from the PC.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do I need Game Pass to find games I already installed?

No. Game Pass is one catalog represented in the Xbox app, but the library can also show purchased Xbox titles and installations from supported PC storefronts. Your account and the source launcher still determine what you can launch.

Can the Xbox app manage updates for every listed game?

No. The aggregated library can provide an entry and launch path, but a third-party launcher may retain responsibility for downloading, updating, ownership, and sign-in.

Is a cloud-play title installed on my PC?

Not necessarily. Cloud play runs remotely and can be available without a full local download. Check for an install action if you need local files, and review current region, device, plan, and title eligibility.

How do I hide Steam or another storefront’s games?

Open your profile picture, choose Settings, open Library & Extensions, and toggle that storefront off. This changes visibility only; it does not uninstall games.

What should I do if a Microsoft Store game is missing?

Open Microsoft Store, select More info near the account picture, choose My Library, and use the Download icon. Check Order history if the item is absent.

How can I verify that Windows installed a game?

In Windows 11, go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps, or search for the app from Start. This is separate from Xbox app recognition.

Why is my installed game not listed?

The launcher may be unsupported, its Library & Extensions integration may be disabled, or you may be using the wrong account. There is no universal folder-import command for unsupported sources.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does finding a game in My Library prove it is downloaded?

No. A library entry can represent ownership, a subscription title, or cloud access. Check whether the card offers Install, Launch, or cloud play.

The Bottom Line

Use Xbox app > My Library first, with Most Recent as a shortcut for supported-storefront installs. Manage clutter through Settings > Library & Extensions; that control never uninstalls a game. For Microsoft Store ownership or downloads, use Microsoft Store > My Library. For a general Windows installation check, use Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Supported storefronts, account, region, plan, and whether you choose local installation or cloud streaming determine what the Xbox app can show and launch.
