To find games that are about to leave Xbox Game Pass, open the current Xbox Game Pass catalog and choose Leaving soon. Open a title’s listing, confirm that your console or PC is supported, and use its install control while the game is still included. You can also use the Xbox mobile app for remote installation when the app offers the title and a compatible destination device.
Installing the files does not give you a permanent license. When catalog access ends, you normally need to purchase the game (or an applicable edition) to continue playing. Departure dates, device availability, interface labels, and discounts change, so verify the individual listing immediately before you act.
What “Leaving soon” means
Game Pass access is a subscription entitlement, not the same thing as owning a retail license. A game can be downloaded to your console or computer and still stop launching for your account when Microsoft removes it from the catalog. The installation stores game data; it does not convert the subscription entitlement into a purchase.

The catalog’s Leaving soon collection is the most direct place to identify affected titles. The collection is part of the current catalog at xbox.com/xbox-game-pass/games. A title can also have different availability by platform, edition, region, or Game Pass plan, so treat the title’s own store and catalog page as the authority for your situation.

If you want to play after removal, plan to buy the title before or after it leaves, provided the relevant store listing still sells the edition for your platform. The catalog advertises a member discount of up to 20% (shown on the catalog page accessed October 13, 2026). “Up to” is a maximum displayed by Xbox, not a promise that every game, edition, region, or date receives that percentage.
What to check before you start
Have the account that receives your Game Pass entitlement signed in on the device or app you are using. Then identify where you actually intend to play: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or Windows PC. The same game name can represent separate console and PC products, and a listing can support one Xbox generation without supporting another. Checking the platform badge before downloading prevents you from filling storage with an edition your device cannot run.
Also note the country or region associated with your store account. Catalog membership, sale prices, editions, and removal timing can vary by territory. The current title page is more reliable for your account than a screenshot, an old article, or a list copied from another region.
Find the current list of departing games
Use the Game Pass catalog’s Leaving soon collection
- Open the current Game Pass games catalog in a browser.
- Choose the Leaving soon collection or filter shown by the current catalog interface.
- Open a game’s card rather than relying only on the collection thumbnail. Read the listing for supported platforms, edition details, the departure information shown there, and any purchase option.
- Record the title and the platform on which you intend to play it. A game appearing in the catalog does not mean that the same installation is available on every Xbox device or Windows configuration.
Web and app layouts are revised frequently. If a menu is named differently in your version, look for the catalog’s current Leaving soon grouping instead of following an old screenshot or assuming a fixed sequence of buttons.
Check Game Pass on your console
On an Xbox console, open the Game Pass area and look for the current Leaving soon collection. The exact placement can change with dashboard updates. Select the game to inspect its full listing, then use the install option only after confirming that the listing supports your console.
Check the Xbox app on Windows
The Windows Xbox app is another route to the catalog. Search the app’s Game Pass area for Leaving soon, open the title, and verify the PC requirements or platform label presented by that listing before selecting install. Use Xbox Wire announcements as a second check
Xbox Wire announcements sometimes identify titles leaving the catalog alongside a Game Pass update. For example, the September 2025 announcement listed games leaving in that wave: Xbox Game Pass September 2025 Wave 2. These posts are useful confirmation, but the current catalog entry for the individual title should control your final decision because catalog contents can change after an announcement.
Confirm the date instead of assuming a universal deadline
Do not plan around a guaranteed number of days. Xbox’s November 17, 2020 guide said: “We’ll give you a couple weeks’ notice before a game leaves the library, so check out the mobile app, the Xbox App on Windows 10, or the Xbox Game Pass section on console to find the ‘leaving soon’ collection of games.” Read the dated statement in its original context at Xbox Wire’s 2020 Game Pass community guide.
That sentence describes a historical notice practice; it is not evidence of a current, universal notice commitment for every title. Before downloading, open the game’s current Leaving soon listing and any current Xbox Wire announcement. If the page does not display a precise time or date, do not invent one. Treat the collection as a warning to act promptly, not as a promise that the game will remain available for a fixed period.
A title can disappear from a promotional list or change status as catalog agreements change. Recheck the listing on the day you install and again if you plan to buy. A departure warning is not a reservation: starting a download late does not guarantee that the download or first launch will complete before the entitlement ends.

Check whether your device can install the game
Game Pass is a catalog of entitlements, not a guarantee that each title runs on each device. A listing may support Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC, or a particular combination; the platform label and edition determine which install control appears.

Microsoft’s support guidance specifically notes that compatibility can affect whether an app or game can be pushed to a device. If the title page offers no install option for your device, do not interpret that absence as a temporary failure; first check the supported platform and edition.
Pay attention to edition names as well as the console badge. A standard edition, a bundle, and a PC edition can have different store records. If you later purchase the game, matching the purchase to the installed product helps avoid paying for an edition that does not grant access on the device you use.

Install a departing game while it is still included
Install from an Xbox console
- Open the Game Pass catalog on the console and enter Leaving soon.
- Select the game and read the title page, including the supported console and edition information.
- Choose the displayed install control. If the page presents more than one edition, select the edition that matches your console and intended purchase or play plan.
- Wait for the console to finish downloading and installing while your subscription still includes the game.
- Launch the game before departure if you want to confirm that the installed edition starts correctly. This check does not extend the entitlement beyond the catalog removal.
Do not assume that a completed download reserves the game. The account still needs an active subscription entitlement or a purchase license when the catalog inclusion ends. If you are installing close to the listed departure, allow time for the download, updates, and a first launch rather than waiting for the final hours.

Install from the Xbox app on Windows
- Open the current Xbox app on Windows and navigate to its Game Pass catalog.
- Open Leaving soon, select the title, and verify that the listing supports Windows PC.
- Use the install control shown for the PC edition and follow the app’s destination and installation prompts.
- After installation, keep the title’s store page or name available so you can return to the correct edition if you decide to buy it.
Because app releases change, this guide deliberately does not prescribe labels that may no longer match your build. The required action is consistent: open the current title listing, confirm PC eligibility, and select its install command before the listing leaves the catalog.
Start a remote installation from the Xbox mobile app
Xbox described remote game installation through the mobile app in its February 3, 2026 Game Pass announcement: Xbox Game Pass February 2026 Wave 1. In the app, open the relevant Game Pass title and use the install action if the app presents one, then choose the compatible Xbox destination it offers.
The announcement confirms the capability but does not document one permanent sequence of button names for every current phone version. Do not rely on an old tap-by-tap guide. If the app does not show an install action or a destination device, install locally from the console or Windows app and investigate compatibility rather than repeatedly sending requests.
Troubleshoot a missing or failed installation
The game was pushed to an Xbox One but does not appear
Microsoft Support instructs Xbox One users to check My games & apps > Ready to install when a pushed game is not visible. Open that area and look for the title under the account that requested the installation. The support article is available at Trouble pushing an app or game to a device.
The install control is missing
- Reopen the title page from the current Leaving soon collection and check the supported platform label.
- Confirm that you are viewing the edition intended for your device; similarly named console and PC products can have separate listings.
- Use a local console or Windows installation if the mobile app does not expose a compatible destination.
- Check the listing again before assuming the game has been removed. Catalog contents and interface presentation are volatile.
The request is rejected as incompatible
Compatibility is a documented reason that a push can fail. A title may be listed in Game Pass while not supporting the particular device or generation you selected. Check the platform information on the title’s current store page and use the supported device rather than trying to force the remote request.
The game installs but will not play after removal
Installation and licensing are separate. Once the catalog entitlement ends, an installed copy can require a purchase license. Return to the title’s current store listing and check whether the edition installed on your device is the one you can buy. If you have not purchased it, downloading it before departure does not create ownership.

Decide whether to buy the game
Buying makes sense when you expect to return to the title after its Game Pass inclusion ends. Make the decision from the specific listing rather than from the collection tile.
