In the base version of Dragon’s Dogma 2, players usually mean Wyrmslife Crystals when they ask where to farm “relics.” Progress through the quest Flickering Shadows, then hunt dragons in Vermund, Battahl and the volcanic region. A March 2024 GameSpot guide reports 10–20 crystals from a dragon you defeat, but that is a dated guide figure rather than a guaranteed current yield.
A separate, apparently October 2026 Dark Arisen system uses unidentified Relics or Spoils, appraisal and the Norgandian Settlement. Its detailed routes, fees, drop tables and rarity odds are labelled provisional by the non-official guide that describes them. Do not mix that system with Wyrmslife Crystals.

First identify which “relic” system you are playing
The item name and game version determine the correct farming method. Wyrmslife Crystals are dragon materials in the commonly documented base-game loop. The Norgan material is described as an unidentified Relic or Spoil that must be appraised. They are not interchangeable currencies and should not be farmed with the same route.

How to farm Wyrmslife Crystals in the base game
1. Reach the correct campaign stage
Advance until Flickering Shadows. GameSpot’s March 2024 guide identifies this point as the stage where collecting Wyrmslife Crystals becomes a main objective and names Ambrosius as the NPC who requests them. If the quest is not active or you have not reached that part of the story, a long dragon circuit may produce materials without advancing the intended objective.

2. Prepare for a dragon hunt
Use your normal dragon-hunting setup rather than treating the crystals as a gathering-node resource. Carry healing supplies, keep a Wakestone available if your party can use one, and make sure your equipment has already received the strongest blacksmith upgrades available to you. The Dragonforged can perform a final upgrade later, but that service does not replace ordinary blacksmith work.
- Keep enough inventory space for dragon materials and any other drops.
- Bring a party capable of sustained damage; a dragon that escapes is reported to yield far fewer crystals.
- Save before attempting a difficult encounter if you want a recovery point for an unsuccessful fight.
- Record which reported locations are present in your current playthrough instead of assuming every older guide spawn is still active.
3. Hunt dragons at reported locations
Two March 2024 guides identify overlapping dragon areas. Their lists are useful starting points, not a promise that every spawn is permanent, available at the same time or unchanged in a later build.

4. Defeat the dragon and collect the drop
- Approach the encounter and start the fight only when your party is ready to sustain damage.
- Focus on defeating the dragon rather than forcing it to retreat. GameSpot reports 10–20 Wyrmslife Crystals from a defeated dragon and only one or two when the dragon escapes; these figures are guide-reported, not guaranteed current rates.
- After the battle, search the defeat area and collect the crystals before leaving.
- Check your inventory and quest progress immediately. If the objective does not update, confirm that you collected the item and that you are on the intended Flickering Shadows step.
5. Repeat only after confirming the encounter state
The available guides do not establish a universal respawn timer. A location that was occupied in an older guide may be empty because of story state, a defeated encounter, a patch change or a different regional event. Move to another reported site, rest only when your version’s normal game rules support it, and verify the next spawn in-game instead of waiting for a promised number of days.
Building a practical farming circuit
There is no confirmed “best” route, so build a circuit around the encounters that are actually active in your save. Start in the region you can reach safely, check the nearest listed location, and then continue through the same region before committing to a cross-country trip. For example, you can check Melve and the Harve-area ruins together, use Ancient Battleground as another checkpoint, and then inspect Battahl sites such as Dragonsbreath Tower or the area south of Luz. Agamen Volcanic Island is better treated as a separate leg when your story progress makes access straightforward.
Write down the date, area and result of each visit. This simple log distinguishes a genuinely absent encounter from a location you checked before its relevant quest or event. It also prevents repeatedly crossing the map to a site that has already been cleared. Because the guides do not establish a common timer, a log of your own version is more useful than an advertised number of rests.
Plan your spending as well as your fighting. The March 2024 GameSpot list prices a Ferrystone at three crystals, an Unmaking Arrow at eight and a Portcrystal at 20. A reported 10–20-crystal successful haul could therefore cover several Ferrystones, one Unmaking Arrow, or contribute substantially toward a Portcrystal, but the yield and shop stock are not guaranteed in a current build. Check the Dragonforged’s menu before committing your reserve, especially while Flickering Shadows still requires crystals.
How to interpret the older location and yield reports
GameSpot and PowerPyx published their crystal guides in March 2024. Their overlapping locations are useful evidence that dragons have been reported across Vermund, Harve, Battahl and the volcanic region, but they are not an official spawn database. One guide may describe a fixed encounter while another mentions a quest-related or random appearance at the same broad landmark. Treat the landmark as a search area, not as a promise that a dragon will stand at one exact coordinate.

The same caution applies to numbers. The 10–20 figure for a slain dragon and one or two for an escape is attributable to GameSpot’s guide, not to a current Capcom drop table. If your haul is different, first verify that the dragon was fully defeated and that every nearby item was collected. A different result can also reflect a patch, quest state or edition rather than a failed farming method.

How many Wyrmslife Crystals should you expect?
The only named yield in the supplied coverage is GameSpot’s March 2024 report: 10–20 crystals for a dragon killed and one or two if it escapes. That range should be used for planning, not as a guaranteed drop table. It is not a current official statistic, and it should not be compared directly with the provisional rarity percentages mentioned for Dark Arisen Relics.
Because spawn conditions and patch behavior can differ, the practical farming rule is simple: defeat the dragon completely, collect the material, and count your actual haul. If your result differs from an older guide, that does not by itself indicate a bug.

Campaign progression
Ambrosius requests the crystals during the Flickering Shadows stage, making them a story objective rather than an optional crafting ingredient only. Keep the quest active and turn in the requested amount through the normal objective flow.

The Dragonforged is also reported to perform the final upgrade on weapons or armor after you have completed the available blacksmith upgrades. Treat that as a service to unlock and verify at the NPC, not as a reason to skip ordinary enhancement stages.
Fast travel: Ferrystones and Portcrystals
Capcom’s official manual search excerpt explains the relationship directly: “Use of a Ferrystone will instantly transport you to the location of a Portcrystal.” The same excerpt says you can have up to ten placed Portcrystals at one time and that permanent town Portcrystals must be interacted with once before they become destinations.
In practice, place a portable Portcrystal where a difficult route repeatedly begins, then carry a Ferrystone and select that destination through the game’s travel interface. Permanent town crystals are not automatically available as destinations until you have interacted with them once.

PC Gamer reported that a June 2026 patch added an Eternal Ferrystone, added Portcrystals at Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town and Volcanic Island Camp, and made one Portcrystal a Monster Culling quest reward. This is secondary patch reporting. Check your current patch notes and in-game inventory before planning a farming route around any of those additions; the presence, reward and behavior may differ by edition or later update.

If you mean Dark Arisen Relics
The reported loop
An opened non-official “Relic Appraisal Guide” describes a different system in Norgan. According to that guide, players collect unidentified Relics or Spoils and take them to Jiera at the Norgandian Settlement for appraisal. It says possible sources include combat, chests, gathering points and a wolf called Freki.
Those statements describe the guide’s proposed loop, not a confirmed universal farming table. The page labels its specific drop tables, appraisal fees, rarity odds and farming routes provisional, and no official drop-rate statistic was established for this system.
What cannot safely be presented as a confirmed route
- A recommended level or enemy list.
- A best farming circuit or guaranteed Norgan spawn.
- A fixed appraisal fee.
- A percentage chance for a rarity tier.
- A guaranteed reward from Freki, a chest, a gathering point or a particular combat encounter.
Do not use those details to estimate Wyrmslife Crystal income. They concern a different item and an apparently different game system.
A cautious way to test the system in your own version
- Open your inventory and confirm that the item is named Relic or Spoil rather than Wyrmslife Crystal.
- Check the current quest, map and NPC descriptions for Norgan, the Norgandian Settlement and Jiera.
- Collect only a small sample from ordinary exploration or combat before committing to a long route.
- Visit Jiera and note the fee and result shown by your installed version.

No dragon appears at a listed location
Older guides describe both fixed and event-dependent appearances. Check your story progression, inspect the surrounding approach rather than a single map pin, and try another reported location. There is no documented universal respawn timer in the available coverage, so do not assume that resting a set number of times must force the encounter.
The dragon escaped and dropped almost nothing
That outcome matches GameSpot’s reported one-or-two-crystal result for an escaping dragon. Improve your preparation and damage output, then attempt a complete defeat at another encounter if the location is inconvenient.
The crystal count is lower than 10–20
The 10–20 figure is a March 2024 guide report, not a current guarantee. Confirm that the dragon was defeated, collect all nearby drops and check whether a patch or quest state has changed the encounter.
The Dragonforged does not offer an expected item
The listed prices and stock come from a March 2024 guide. Recheck your story progress, speak to the correct NPC, and use the current in-game menu as the authority for availability and cost.
Fast travel does not show a Portcrystal
Interact with a permanent town Portcrystal once before trying to use it as a destination. For a placed crystal, confirm that it is still deployed and that you have not exceeded the manual’s limit of ten placed Portcrystals.

The item is called a Relic, not a crystal
You are probably looking at the separate Dark Arisen terminology. Confirm that Norgan and the Norgandian Settlement exist in your version, and treat any detailed appraisal rates or route recommendations as provisional unless your game itself confirms them.
