Sign in to the PlayStation account used to buy or redeem the game, then open its library: on PS5, go to Games home > Game Library > Your Collection; on PS4, go to Library > Purchased. Select the game and choose Download. You can also start a remote download in the PlayStation App or from the PlayStation Store website.
If the title is not listed, do not buy it again immediately. First verify the account and transaction, then check whether the game is hidden, supplied through PlayStation Plus, or owned by another account on the console. If the game is listed but refuses to download, work through service status, system software, download queue, storage, and license checks.
Find the game and start the download
The menu names vary by device, but each route leads to your purchased games. Sony’s download instructions also cover add-ons and web downloads. Use the route for the device you are holding rather than searching the store manually first.

Download from a PS5
- Open Games home.
- Select Game Library, then Your Collection.
- Choose the game and select Download.
The title is associated with the account currently signed in. If more than one person uses the PS5, check the account name before selecting the library. A purchase made on a different account may be available through sharing in some circumstances, but it will not necessarily appear as a purchase in the account you are viewing.

To find add-ons for a PS5 game, select the game in the library and scroll to Add-Ons. This is separate from selecting the base game, so check the add-on area when an expansion, season pass item, or other purchased content is missing even though the main game is installed.
Download from a PS4
- Open Library from the home screen.
- Select Purchased.
- Choose the game and select Download.
For a PS4 add-on, use the game’s PlayStation Store page or Your Add-Ons, as described in Sony’s download guide. If you are looking for additional content rather than the main game, open the relevant game page and check the add-on listing instead of assuming the content is part of the base download.
Start a download remotely in the PlayStation App
In the PlayStation App, open Game Library > Purchased, select the game, and choose Download to Console. The console needs to be linked to the app. Select the intended console carefully if more than one console is associated with the account.

That delay does not by itself mean the purchase is missing. Turn on the linked console and check its download activity if the game is not immediately visible.
Use the PlayStation Store website
Sign in to the PlayStation Store website, select your avatar, open Game Library > Purchased, and select the title to download it. This is useful when you want to verify the account in a browser or when navigating the console library is inconvenient. The browser route still uses the signed-in account’s entitlements, so changing devices does not change which purchases are available.
Know what kind of access you have
“I bought this game” can describe several different entitlements. Identifying the type prevents you from applying the wrong fix.

A PlayStation Plus catalog title may disappear from playable access when the applicable membership or catalog availability no longer applies. Do not use the catalog check to explain a missing outright purchase. Conversely, if you only accessed a game through Plus, a purchase transaction may not exist in Transaction History.

If the game is missing from your library
Check the account and entitlement before changing console settings. Digital purchases are tied to the PlayStation account used to make or redeem them, and a PlayStation Plus catalog game is not necessarily an outright purchase. Work through the checks in this order so you can distinguish an account problem from a display or license problem.
1. Confirm which account made the purchase
Check that the console, app, or website is signed in to the account that bought or redeemed the game. If you have multiple accounts, a game bought on one account may not appear as a purchase on another. Sony’s download troubleshooting guide recommends checking the account and purchase details.
Compare the account currently shown on the device with the account used at checkout or redemption. If you switch to the purchasing account and the title appears, the library was working as designed; you were viewing a different account’s collection. Keep the account distinction in mind when using the app or web store too, because those services display the account with which you signed in.
2. Verify the transaction
Use Transaction History to confirm that the purchase completed. On the web, sign in to Account Management and open Transaction History. Sony says the default online view covers the past two years; choose a date range to look further back. A wider date range is important for an older purchase that does not appear in the default view.

- PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Transaction History.
- PS4: Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Wallet > Transaction History.
See Sony’s instructions for checking transaction history if you need another route. Look for the title, the relevant date, and the account under which the transaction was made. If no purchase appears, consider whether the game was redeemed or obtained through PlayStation Plus rather than purchased outright.
3. Check hidden games
A game hidden from the library can be hidden across consoles, so check the hidden-games setting if the title does not appear in the expected list. Sony includes this check in its troubleshooting steps.
Hidden status can make a valid entitlement look absent even when the account and transaction are correct. Check the hidden-games setting before repeating a purchase or concluding that the title has been removed from the account. Once it is visible again, return to the normal PS5 collection or PS4 Purchased list and start the download.

4. Identify whether you own it or access it through PlayStation Plus
If the game came from PlayStation Plus, check that your membership is active and that the relevant benefit or catalog access still applies. Catalog games require the appropriate membership plan, and catalog access is different from buying a game outright. Sony’s PlayStation Plus game catalog guide explains catalog access. If the game was an outright purchase, troubleshoot it as a purchase rather than assuming it depends on catalog access.

One account may have bought the game, another may have catalog access, and a third may have neither entitlement. Check the account’s actual benefit before trying license restoration or reinstalling the game.
5. Check whether another account owns it
If a different account on the console bought the game, availability can depend on that account’s sharing settings. Sony’s troubleshooting guidance covers Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5 and primary-console activation on PS4. Check the relevant setting on the console where you want to play.
On a shared console, first identify the owning account, then confirm that the console-sharing or primary-console arrangement is the one intended for that account. A sharing setting can affect whether another local user can access the game, but it does not transfer the purchase into that user’s own transaction history. If the owner’s account is not the one being used, switch accounts when checking the library and licenses.
6. Restore licenses
If the account and entitlement look right but the game is still missing or shows a padlock, restoring licenses may help. Sony says this process does not affect saved data, so it is an account and software troubleshooting step rather than a save-file deletion procedure.
- PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- PS4: Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses > Restore.
Follow Sony’s license restoration instructions for the current process. After the restore finishes, return to the appropriate library and check the title again. Restore licenses is especially relevant when a known purchase has a padlock icon or when an add-on cannot be located, but it cannot create an entitlement that was never purchased, redeemed, or supplied by an active benefit.
If the download will not start or gets stuck
A game can appear in your library even when a download cannot proceed. Work through these checks in order; Sony’s download troubleshooting guide covers the same failure paths.

- Check PlayStation service status. If a relevant service is having an issue, retry after it is available. A service interruption can prevent a valid download from starting, so check status before repeatedly changing account settings.
- Check system software. Install an available system software update, then try the download again. Keeping the console software current is one of Sony’s recommended checks for download problems.
- Pause and resume the download on PS5. Open Downloads/Uploads, pause the item, and resume it. This gives a stalled queue another attempt without changing the purchase or license.
- Retry a failed PS5 download. If pausing and resuming does not work, cancel and delete the queued download. Return to Game Library > Your Collection, select the game, and try downloading again.
- Check free storage. On either console, open Settings > Storage. The game page shows how much free space is required; make sure the console has enough available.
Storage capacity matters when a download cannot fit, but it does not determine whether a purchase appears in your library. Freeing space can address an insufficient-capacity error, while it cannot fix a wrong account, hidden title, missing Plus benefit, or license mismatch. Likewise, a stalled download does not prove that the transaction failed; verify the transaction separately.

When to contact PlayStation Support
If the purchase is verified, the entitlement and sharing settings are correct, and the download still fails after checking service status, system software, storage, and licenses, contact PlayStation Support. Include the exact error message, what happened, the steps that reproduce it, when you tried, and a screenshot or video if available. Those details help support distinguish an account or license issue from a download failure.
Describe whether the title is missing entirely, visible with a padlock, present but stuck in the queue, or missing only an add-on. Tell support which platform you used, which account owns or accesses the game, and whether Transaction History confirms the relevant purchase. Providing the time of the attempt and the steps that led to the error is more useful than reporting only that “the download does not work.”

How far back does online Transaction History go by default?
Sony says the default online display covers the past two years. Choose a date range to look further back for an older transaction.
What if the game came from PlayStation Plus instead of a purchase?

Will restoring licenses delete my saved data?

Provide the exact error message, what happened, reproduction steps, the time of the attempt, and a screenshot or video if available. Also explain whether the game is missing, padlocked, stalled, or missing only an add-on.
