Because “the horror game” does not identify a particular title, first search the exact game name in the PlayStation Store and confirm that its listing is available for PS5 in your region. If the game is already associated with your account, the direct download route is Games home > Game Library > Your Collection: select the game, choose Download, and monitor it in Downloads/Uploads. PlayStation says installation starts automatically, and some games let you play part of the content while the rest installs. See PlayStation’s download instructions.
Identify the exact horror game before you download
There is no single PS5 title officially called “the horror game.” The phrase could refer to any number of releases, and availability, editions, price, and subscription access can differ by country. Do not rely on a thumbnail, a video title, or a similarly named listing. Use the game’s exact name, and check the store page for the version you intend to install.

Search the PlayStation Store
On the PS5, open the PlayStation Store from Games home and search for the exact title. If you are unsure of the spelling, use the game’s official title from its box, announcement, or another trusted source, then compare the search results carefully. A sequel, remake, deluxe edition, demo, soundtrack, and add-on can appear as separate products.

The page should make clear whether the product includes a PS5 version, whether it is a PS4-only product, and which edition you are buying. It should also show whether your access comes from a purchase or another entitlement. The current listing for your account and region is the authority for those details; do not assume that a game is included with a subscription merely because another region or an older article says so.

Use these checks on the listing

What you need for a digital download
A digital purchase or download requires the PS5 to be connected to the internet and signed in to the PlayStation account that owns the game. PlayStation’s quick-start guide states: “To purchase and download games, you’ll need to connect your console to the internet and sign in with your account.” Read the PS5 Quick Start Guide for the underlying requirement.
Before starting, sign in to the account you expect to use, make sure the console can reach PlayStation services, and check that the game’s purchase or entitlement has completed. If another person bought the game on a different account, the title may not appear in your collection when you are signed in to your own account. Keep the exact title and edition in mind while checking: a standard edition and a deluxe edition can be separate library entries.
The procedure below is for a digital game. A disc is not a method of performing a digital download. Disc-based installation has a separate path and requires the appropriate PS5 model with a disc drive.
Download an owned horror game directly on the PS5
When the game is already linked to your account, use the library rather than searching the store again. This is the shortest supported route.
- From Games home, open Game Library.
- Select Your Collection. This view contains games associated with the account currently signed in.
- Find the horror game, select it, and choose Download.
- Open the control center and select Downloads/Uploads to watch the download and installation progress. When installation is complete, select the game from Games home to launch it.
PlayStation describes the installation as automatic after you start the download. Depending on the game, an initial portion may become playable while remaining content continues to install. If the game opens but reports that content is still installing, leave the download running and check its status in Downloads/Uploads rather than starting a second copy.

If the title is not in Your Collection
Return to the exact store listing and verify that you are viewing the same account and product you purchased. A store search can show a product that is available to buy even when the account does not own it. Conversely, an owned game can be hidden from the normal library view. The account, transaction, hidden-game setting, and license checks in the troubleshooting section below resolve those cases.
Find and buy the game when you do not own it yet
If the game is not associated with your account, the library cannot download it as an owned title. Search the PlayStation Store for the exact name, open the matching product page, and inspect the PS5 availability, edition, region, and access terms before completing a purchase. After the transaction succeeds, return to Games home > Game Library > Your Collection, select the title, and choose Download.

Do not infer current availability from a review, trailer, or an older store screenshot. A title can be delisted, restricted to certain regions, offered only as a PS4 product, or presented in several editions. The live store page attached to your account is the place to determine what you can obtain now. If the page offers only a disc product, follow the physical-media instructions instead of expecting a digital download button.
Subscription access needs its own verification
A subscription catalogue is an entitlement, not a guarantee that every horror title is included. The game must be shown as available to your account in your region and under your current subscription terms. If the listing asks you to purchase the game, a subscription elsewhere does not change that requirement.
Start a remote download from the web or PlayStation App
You can initiate a download away from the console through the PlayStation Store website or the PlayStation App. This is useful when the PS5 is switched on or in a state that can receive remote commands, but it still depends on the console being connected to the account.

- Open the PlayStation Store website or PlayStation App and sign in to the account associated with the PS5.
- Open Game Library > Purchased.
- Select the horror game you want to install.
- Choose Download or Download to Console, using the label shown by the website or app.
Remote downloading also requires the PS5 to be connected to that account. Automatic downloads must be configured for the remote request to start as expected. If the request does not begin, check the console’s account connection and automatic-download setup before repeating the command. Once the console receives the request, use Downloads/Uploads on the PS5 to observe progress.
The remote library can contain more than one product with a similar name. Select the same title and edition you verified on the store page; choosing a demo, add-on, or PS4 entry will not produce the intended installation.
Monitor installation and launch the game
The control center’s Downloads/Uploads panel is the useful status screen after you select Download. It shows whether the item is downloading, waiting, paused, or installing. A game may appear on Games home before every component is ready, so use the status panel when the launch screen says that installation is still in progress.
When the installation finishes, select the game from Games home. If you started from a remote device, you do not need to issue another download request after the PS5 has accepted it. The console completes the installation locally, subject to the account entitlement and the download remaining active.
Fix a horror game that is missing from the library
Work through the checks in order. Each one tests a different reason an owned title might not be visible.

1. Confirm the purchasing account
Check the account currently signed in on the PS5 against the account that completed the purchase. If the game was bought by a family member or on another console account, sign in to the purchasing account before looking in Your Collection. A successful purchase does not automatically move an entitlement between accounts.
2. Check transaction history
Open the account’s transaction history and verify that the purchase completed successfully. A declined payment, an abandoned checkout, or a pending transaction does not establish a downloadable entitlement. Use the transaction record to distinguish a purchase problem from a library-display problem.
3. Unhide the game
If the title was hidden, unhide it in the library and then return to Your Collection. Hidden items can be absent from the ordinary view even though the account still owns them.
4. Restore licenses
If the game shows a lock or is not offered as available after the account and transaction checks, restore licenses on the PS5. License restoration refreshes the console’s recognition of purchased content; it does not buy the game again. After it completes, reopen the library and look for the exact title.
5. Check service status
If the account, transaction, hidden-game, and license checks all look correct but the title remains unavailable, check PlayStation service status. A service interruption can prevent the store from confirming an entitlement or accepting a download. PlayStation’s download troubleshooting guidance covers these checks and the recovery actions.

Fix a download that will not start or has stalled
Use the control center rather than deleting the game immediately. The download queue provides a reversible first step.
Pause and resume
- Open the control center and select Downloads/Uploads.
- Select the stalled horror-game download and choose Pause.
- Wait briefly, then select the same item and choose Resume.
- Watch the status panel to confirm that progress has restarted.
Cancel and retry when pause/resume fails
- Open Downloads/Uploads and select the pending download.
- Choose the option to cancel and delete the pending download.
- Return to Game Library > Your Collection, select the game again, and choose Download.
- Monitor the new attempt in Downloads/Uploads.
Canceling a pending download removes that incomplete queue item; it is not a second purchase. If the retry also fails, check PlayStation service status and repeat the account and transaction checks before attempting additional downloads. These steps follow PlayStation’s published troubleshooting procedure.
Digital download versus disc installation

The PS5 quick-start guide explains that disc play requires a disc drive and that game data starts installing after the disc is inserted. A disc therefore answers a different question: it installs from physical media, whereas the procedure in this guide retrieves a digital entitlement. Do not look for a digital “Download” button for a disc you have not purchased digitally.

Region, edition, and entitlement pitfalls
Region differences
The store catalogue is tied to the account’s region. A horror game visible in another country’s store may have a different release status, edition, or offer in your region. Verify the listing while signed in to the account that will download it; do not use another region’s price or subscription claim as evidence of local access.
PS4 and PS5 listings
Search results can include a PS4 version, a PS5 version, or a bundle. Select the product whose platform and edition match your goal. If the page does not state PS5 access, the listing alone does not establish that a PS5 installation is included.
Bundles, add-ons, and demos
A bundle can place several entries in the library, while an add-on may require a separately owned base game. A demo is a trial product, not automatically the full game. Read the product description and select the base game entry before downloading.
Changing accounts
Digital entitlements remain associated with the account that obtained them. If you switch accounts while looking for the game, the library can appear empty even though the purchase is valid on the original account. Sign back in to the purchasing account for the download and license checks.

- Identify the exact horror-game title and edition.
- Confirm the live PlayStation Store listing shows PS5 access in your account’s region.
- Sign in to the account that purchased or otherwise owns the game.
- From Games home, open Game Library > Your Collection.
- Select the title and choose Download.
- Track the installation in Downloads/Uploads.
- If the title is missing, check the purchasing account, transaction history, hidden games, and licenses.
- If the download stalls, pause and resume it; if that fails, cancel and delete the pending item, then retry from the library.
- Check PlayStation service status when entitlement or download checks continue to fail.
That workflow finds and installs any eligible digital horror game without assuming which title the phrase refers to. The exact game’s current store page remains the source for its availability, edition, price, and subscription status.
