If audio starts after you leave a web page, open Firefox for Android and check its Open Tabs view first. Firefox marks tabs that are playing audio or video and gives each marked tab a pause button, so you can stop the sound without reopening the page. You can also pause active Firefox playback from Android’s notification panel.
Samsung Internet documents a notification-drawer and lock-screen mini-controller for web audio, but its cited documentation does not establish a tab list that identifies the noisy page. Chrome’s commonly cited media-control instructions apply to computers, not Android, so do not assume those desktop steps work on a phone or tablet.
Fastest way to identify the noisy tab in Firefox
Firefox for Android provides the clearest documented route when you need to know which tab is producing sound. Use the indicator as a starting point rather than assuming that every audible sound comes from a browser tab. If no Firefox tab is marked, check whether another browser, an installed app, or a previously opened media notification is responsible. The Open Tabs control only describes media Firefox currently reports as playing; it does not provide a list of every sound-producing app on the device.
Pause browser media from Android’s notification panel
The notification panel is the quickest route when you only need to stop or resume media that is already active. It does not usually tell you which browser tab started the playback, but it can control Firefox without reopening the page. Pause or resume from the notification drawer
- Leave the web page or switch to another app while the site’s audio is playing.
- Open the Android notification drawer by swiping down from the top of the display.
- Locate Samsung Internet’s media mini-controller and tap its pause button. Tap the play control to resume.
Use the lock-screen controller
When the device is locked and the browser is still providing active media, the same type of mini-controller may be available on the lock screen. Use its pause or play control without unlocking and navigating back to the page.
The cited Samsung documentation supports controlling active playback, not identifying a specific source tab. If several pages could be responsible, you may need to return to Samsung Internet, inspect open pages individually, or pause media and reopen tabs until you find the source. Data Saver limits network access
Android Data Saver or a similar manufacturer feature can restrict background network traffic. Streaming media may stop when the browser is no longer visible, especially if the player needs to fetch more data. Temporarily allow the browser as an exception, then test again. Android may hide the browser’s media notification when notification permission is denied or the relevant notification category is disabled. Review the browser’s notification permission in Android Settings and make sure media controls are not blocked. The browser can still be playing even when no control card is visible. Restore permission, start playback again, and check the notification panel before concluding that the browser cannot provide controls.
Digital-rights restrictions apply
Streaming services that use digital rights management can impose separate device, account, subscription, or regional requirements. A browser may show a page but still stop protected playback when the app is backgrounded. Those restrictions are controlled by the service and its licensing rules, not by the Open Tabs pause button. Samsung Internet documentation also discusses popup video and a floating Video Assistant controller. These features are intended to make video viewing easier, such as keeping video in a floating view; they should not be treated as a list of every open tab that is making noise.
