In Fortnite Runners, enter a supported non-competitive match, search the island for a Sprite, and use the in-game interaction to extract it. Extraction adds the Sprite to your collection; you can then bring collected Sprites into later matches to start with their powers. Epic has not published fixed coordinates or spawn rates, so current guidance is about the collection loop rather than a guaranteed route.
What Sprites do in Fortnite Runners
Sprites are collectible entities introduced with Fortnite’s Runners season. Epic describes them as appearing across the new island. When you find one during a match, extracting it adds it to your collection. Collected Sprites can be brought into future matches so their powers are available from the start. Epic’s examples include shields, temporary invisibility and a burst of extra damage, although the announcement does not present a complete roster of powers.
The mechanic has two separate goals:
- Find and extract: locate a Sprite during the current match and complete the extraction interaction.
- Bank and level: secure the Sprite so it is retained, then improve it through exploration, eliminations and surviving the Storm.

Before you drop: check the mode and season
Use a supported, non-competitive mode
Sprites are not available in competitive modes. If you are playing a ranked or other competitive playlist and cannot find one, changing your search pattern will not solve the problem; switch to a mode in which the Sprite system is enabled. Epic’s support article is the authority for this mode restriction.

Do not use old shrine maps as current instructions
Older guides may point to Sprite Shrines from Chapter 6 Season 1. Those locations belong to a previous island and a previous implementation. The current Epic announcement says only that Sprites are “all over the new Island”; it does not publish a coordinate list. Treat a legacy map as historical information, not as a reliable Runners route.
Keep the current season in mind
Epic’s continuity notice says a new Sprite generation continues into Chapter 7 Season 4. It also says Season 3: Runners Sprites are preserved in the Sprite Garden and in your collection. That means a season change does not automatically erase the Runners collection described by Epic, even though the available generation can change.
Step-by-step: find and collect a Sprite
1. Start a match in an eligible playlist
Launch Fortnite and select a regular, non-competitive match that supports the Runners Sprite mechanic. Playlist names and matchmaking menus can change between updates, so use the mode description currently shown in your client rather than relying on an old screenshot.
2. Search the island instead of chasing a fixed coordinate
Once the match begins, explore the island and watch the environment for a Sprite. Epic’s current announcement gives a broad distribution—Sprites are across the island—but no named landmark, grid reference, guaranteed spawn point or minimum number per match. A route copied from an earlier chapter can send you to a location that no longer applies.
Use normal match movement to cover ground efficiently. Move through areas you can safely inspect, listen and watch for the Sprite’s visual presence, and keep enough mobility to leave if another player contests the area. These are survival tactics, not evidence of a special spawn pattern; the official material does not establish that any particular biome, landmark or route has a higher chance.

3. Approach and use the extraction interaction
When you see a Sprite, move close enough for Fortnite to display its interaction prompt, then follow that prompt to extract it. The official announcement confirms the extraction action but does not specify a universal keyboard key, controller button or hold duration. Input prompts can differ by platform, remapping and accessibility settings, so the on-screen instruction is the dependable control reference.
Stay alert while the interaction completes. Extraction may leave you exposed to opponents or the Storm, so check your surroundings before committing and avoid starting the interaction in an obviously unsafe position when you have another option.

After the interaction finishes, look for the game’s confirmation that the Sprite was collected. Epic describes extraction as the step that adds it to your collection. If you are unsure whether it completed, open the collection or Sprite Garden interface available in your current build after the immediate danger has passed and check for the newly obtained entry.
5. Bank it before you are eliminated
Epic Support uses “bank” for securing a Sprite. If you are eliminated before banking it, the Sprite is left on the battlefield and another player can pick it up. In practical terms, do not assume that merely locating or beginning an interaction guarantees ownership. Complete the collection process and bank the Sprite before taking an avoidable fight or remaining in a closing Storm.
How to bring a collected Sprite into a later match
Epic says collected Sprites can be brought into future matches so their powers are available from the start. The exact menu labels and selection path can change with updates, and the cited announcement does not document a single button-by-button loadout procedure. Use the current Sprite collection or pre-match selection interface presented by your client:

- Open the Sprite collection or Sprite Garden area from the Fortnite menus.
- Confirm that the Sprite you extracted appears as collected rather than as an unbanked match find.
- Choose the available option to bring, equip or select that Sprite for a future match.
- Start an eligible non-competitive match and verify the selected power when the match begins.
If the selection is missing, first confirm that you are not queued for a competitive playlist and that the game has finished applying the latest update. Do not infer that a Sprite was lost simply because a menu moved; seasonal UI changes can rename or relocate collection controls.

Epic Support says Sprites level through three activities:
- Exploring: continue moving through the island and playing the match rather than remaining in one location.
- Getting eliminations: eliminations contribute to Sprite progression while you play.
- Surviving the Storm: staying alive as the Storm advances also contributes.
Epic does not publish the number of actions, experience thresholds, level caps or a per-match progression formula in the cited material. Do not treat an unofficial percentage, guaranteed level or alleged spawn-rate chart as an official value.
A practical progression routine
- Collect the Sprite early only when the approach and extraction are reasonably safe.
- Rotate through the island as the match develops so exploration occurs naturally while you pursue your normal objective.
- Take fights that fit your resources and position; an elimination is useful, but an unnecessary duel can end the run before Storm survival contributes further.
- Move ahead of the Storm rather than waiting at its edge. This keeps survival progress possible and reduces the chance of being eliminated while carrying an unbanked Sprite.
- After the match, check the collection to see whether the Sprite’s level or progression changed.
This routine is strategic advice, not a promise of a particular level. Epic has confirmed the activities that matter, not a guaranteed result from any one route or number of eliminations.
What happens if another player gets to your Sprite?
If you are eliminated before banking the Sprite, Epic says it remains on the battlefield so someone else can pick it up again. The mechanic therefore creates a recoverable world object rather than an automatic permanent award for the first player who touched it. Banking is the important ownership checkpoint.

For your own run, treat an unbanked Sprite as an objective with risk attached. Finish the interaction, move to safety and avoid assuming that a teammate—or a previous interaction—has secured it for you unless the game confirms collection. For an opponent’s unbanked Sprite, the same rule explains why you may encounter one after another player has been eliminated.
Where do Sprites spawn?
The most specific current answer is: across the new Runners island. Epic has not supplied exact coordinates, a landmark-by-landmark table, a type-specific map or a guaranteed count per match. Because those details are not established, a responsible guide cannot name a “best Sprite drop” or promise that a particular point will contain one.

Using Sprite powers without overclaiming what they do
Epic’s Runners announcement gives three examples of Sprite powers: shields, temporary invisibility and bonus burst damage. Those examples show the kinds of advantages the system can provide, but they are not a complete specification of every Sprite or an assurance that each collected Sprite grants all three effects.

Read the description attached to the particular Sprite in your collection and watch the in-game status indicators after selecting it. Duration, activation conditions and stacking behavior are not detailed in the cited official pages, so avoid assuming that an effect is permanent, automatic in every mode or identical across generations.

Season transition: Runners collection and Chapter 7 Season 4
Epic Player Support states that a new Sprite generation continues into Chapter 7 Season 4, while Season 3: Runners Sprites remain preserved in the Sprite Garden and collection. The practical implication is that a player who collected Runners Sprites should still find those entries represented after the transition described by Epic.
The notice does not enumerate the complete Season 4 roster, variant odds or the precise powers of every new Sprite. If your interface shows a new generation, compare the labels and descriptions in the current collection rather than assuming that an older Runners effect works unchanged.
Do not confuse Battle Royale Sprites with Creative Earth Sprite Devices
Epic also documents an Earth Sprite Device for Fortnite Creative. That documentation concerns creators placing an Earth Sprite device on a Creative island, where players trade gear for loot. It is not a Battle Royale spawn guide and does not provide locations for collecting the current Runners Sprites.
If you are building or playing a Creative island, follow that island’s device setup and rules. If your goal is to collect Sprites for future Battle Royale matches, use the Runners collection loop described above instead.
Troubleshooting Sprite collection
No Sprite appears during a match
- Confirm that the playlist is non-competitive; Sprites are unavailable in competitive modes.
- Remember that “all over the island” does not mean every named location has a guaranteed spawn.
- Do not use a Chapter 6 Shrine map as proof that a current location should contain one.
- Continue exploring and check the collection after a successful extraction rather than relying on an unofficial spawn counter.
The interaction will not complete
- Move into the range indicated by the on-screen prompt.
- Check for opponents, Storm pressure or other interruptions and try again from a safer position.
- Use the control shown by your platform’s prompt; a remembered keyboard key or controller button may not match your bindings.
The Sprite is not in the collection
- Verify that the extraction interaction finished and that the game displayed a collection confirmation.
- Check whether you were eliminated before banking it; in that case, Epic says it remains on the battlefield for another player.
- Leave the match normally when possible, then reopen the collection or Sprite Garden after the interface synchronizes.
The Sprite option is unavailable before a match
- Check that you are not entering a competitive playlist.
- Look in the current collection or Sprite Garden controls for the bring/equip option; menu names can change between seasons.
- Install any pending Fortnite update and restart if the collection display appears incomplete.
A reliable checklist for every Sprite run
- Queue a supported non-competitive mode.
- Explore the current island; do not depend on legacy Shrine coordinates.
- Approach a Sprite and follow the on-screen extraction prompt.
- Confirm that extraction added it to the collection.
- Bank it before taking unnecessary risks.
- Use exploration, eliminations and Storm survival to level it.
- After the match, select the collected Sprite for a future eligible match if you want its power from the start.
- Recheck the Sprite Garden and collection after a season transition; Epic says Runners Sprites are preserved as a new generation continues.
What the official guidance does—and does not—answer
Epic’s current material is sufficient to establish the collection loop, mode restriction, leveling activities, elimination consequence and season continuity. It is not a complete map or technical data sheet. Exact coordinates, spawn probabilities, a guaranteed per-match count, the full variant roster, level thresholds and every power’s duration are not stated in the cited sources. Keeping those limits visible prevents a location guide from presenting outdated Chapter 6 information as current Runners advice.
