To find a song’s album art and detailed credits in YouTube Music, first locate the track with Search or Library. Open the song’s menu and choose View song credits when that option is available. The credits page can list writers, producers and performers. If you are browsing the Samples feature, tap the displayed album artwork to open that album’s page.
Credits and artwork are metadata supplied to YouTube by a label or distributor. A missing View song credits option, incorrect contributor information or wrong artwork usually cannot be fixed from a listener account; the label or distributor must send corrected metadata.
Which YouTube Music route should you use?
Your best route depends on whether you are starting with a known song, browsing recommendations or trying to verify contributor information.

Find the song or album first
YouTube Music cannot show credits for a track until you have opened the correct recording. Start with the method that best matches what you know.

Use Search when you know a title, artist or lyric
- Open YouTube Music on your phone, tablet or computer.
- Use the Search field and enter the song title, artist name or another identifying term.
- Review the results for the intended recording. Similar titles, live versions, remixes and user-uploaded videos can appear alongside official music releases, so check the artist and release information before proceeding.
- Select the song to open it, or select an album result when your goal is to inspect the release associated with its artwork.
The exact grouping and labels can differ by device and region. If the first result is not the recording you need, refine the search with the artist name or album title rather than assuming that the first match is authoritative.
Use Library for music you already saved
- Open Library in YouTube Music.
- Choose the relevant category, such as Songs, Albums or Artists.
- Locate the saved item and select the song or album.
- Continue to the song menu if you need credits, or open the album page if you need release artwork and track context.
Library categories are useful when a title is difficult to search or when several releases share nearly identical names. They also reduce the chance of opening an unrelated result from a different artist.
Find album art and open the related album page
Artwork can serve as a visual clue, but the navigation available depends on the screen you are using. Google’s documented artwork-to-album action applies to Samples.
From Samples
- Open the Samples experience in YouTube Music.
- Browse until a Sample with the artwork you want to identify appears.
- Tap the album artwork shown with that Sample.
- YouTube Music takes you to the album page associated with the artwork.
From that album page, you can inspect the release context and select tracks for playback or credits. If tapping the artwork does not produce an album page, confirm that you are interacting with the artwork in Samples rather than a thumbnail in another feed. The artwork gesture documented by Google should not be treated as a universal control across every screen.

From Search or Library
When you are not in Samples, use Search or Library to locate the album directly. Search by album title and artist, or open Library > Albums for a saved release. Select the album result to view its release page and artwork. If several entries look similar, compare the artist and track list before choosing one; a compilation, soundtrack or alternate edition may use related but different artwork.
View song credits in YouTube Music
Once the correct song is open, credits are accessed from that song’s menu rather than from a separate global credits search.
On the YouTube Music app
- Find the song through Search or Library and open it.
- Open the song’s menu using the control associated with that track.
- Select View song credits.
- Read the roles shown for that recording. Depending on the supplied metadata, the page may list writers, producers and performers.
Google describes the result this way: “The song credits page displays writers, producers and performers for a selected song.” The list is tied to the selected recording, so make sure you opened the intended version rather than a live performance, remix or duplicate upload.

- Open YouTube Music in a desktop web browser.
- Search for the track or select it from a Library category.
- Open the track menu.
- Choose View song credits when it is offered.
Google documents the feature for the YouTube Music app and web experience, on mobile and desktop. The wording or placement of the menu can change as the interface is updated, but the task remains the same: identify the song, open its menu and look for the credits command.

What the credits page may contain
- Writers: people credited with writing the song.
- Producers: production contributors included in the delivered metadata.
- Performers: credited performing artists when those details are supplied.
A credits page is not necessarily a complete session log. Its contents reflect the roles that the label or distributor submitted for that specific recording. A short list does not prove that no other people contributed; it means those additional details were not displayed in the available metadata.
Why “View song credits” is missing
The most common reason is incomplete release metadata, not a problem with your phone, browser or subscription. Google says the option appears when writers or producers are included in the metadata delivered to YouTube by the label or distributor. Some providers do not include those details.
Check that you opened the right type of item
- Confirm that you selected the song itself, not only an artist, playlist or album heading.
- Check whether you opened an official release rather than a video or alternate upload.
- Try the same song from Search and from Library if both are available.
- If you are using Samples, leave the artwork-browsing view and open the song before looking for its menu.
These checks distinguish a navigation issue from a metadata issue. If the menu still lacks the command after you have opened the correct recording, the release may not contain the required credit fields.

Understand what YouTube Music can and cannot infer
YouTube Music does not create a reliable writer or producer list merely from a title, artist name or album image. The credit roles must be supplied as release metadata. Artwork alone therefore cannot reveal every contributor, and two releases with similar images can still have different credit records.

What to do about missing or erroneous credits
- Record the exact song, artist, album and version that is affected.
- Check whether another official version of the same release has a credits page, because a remix or reissue may carry different metadata.
- If the information is absent or wrong on the correct release, contact the label or distributor responsible for delivering that recording.
- Provide the specific missing or incorrect role and the corrected information so the rights holder can submit updated metadata to YouTube.
Google directs users to the label or distributor for missing or erroneous credits. YouTube Music listeners do not have a general in-app form for editing the official credit record.
What to do when the album artwork or track information is wrong
Artwork and credits are related but separate metadata elements. A release can have a correct contributor list and incorrect artwork, or the reverse.
For listeners
First verify that the wrong image belongs to the exact release you opened. Deluxe editions, compilations, regional releases and reissues can legitimately use different covers. Compare the artist, album title and track list before reporting an error. If the image or track information is still incorrect, contact the label or distributor and identify the YouTube Music release precisely.
For labels and distributors
Google’s guidance for YouTube’s Music section says that labels or distributors can send updated metadata and artwork. That correction path is intended for the parties who control the release data; it does not imply that every listener can upload replacement artwork or edit a credit field.

Keep the distinction clear: the View song credits page belongs to the song-credit experience, while Google’s “Music in this video” guidance concerns music information and artwork attached to eligible YouTube video descriptions. A correction submitted for one surface may not instantly change every representation of a release.

Identify an album from a Sample’s cover
- Open Samples and pause on the Sample with the artwork.
- Tap the artwork itself.
- Confirm the album title and artist on the destination page.
- Select the relevant track if you also need credits.
- Open the track menu and choose View song credits if present.
Check who wrote or produced a song
- Search for the song using its title and artist.
- Open the intended recording, checking for alternate versions.
- Open the song menu.
- Select View song credits.
- Review the writer and producer entries shown for that recording.
Investigate a suspiciously wrong cover
- Open the release from Search or Library > Albums.
- Compare the album title, artist and track list with the release you expected.
- Check whether you opened a compilation, deluxe edition, soundtrack or reissue.
- If the release identity is correct but the image is not, contact the responsible label or distributor with the release details.
Mobile, desktop and regional differences
Google documents song credits in both the YouTube Music app and on the web, but it does not promise an identical screen layout for every device. Menu placement, category names and the way results are grouped can change with the interface.
Discovery features can also vary by country or region. Google’s finding guide specifically notes regional variation, so a route visible in one account may not appear in another. Treat a different label or missing category as a possible availability difference before concluding that the song itself is unavailable.
When troubleshooting, use the same account and release on another supported interface only as a comparison. A credits page that remains absent across the app and web is more consistent with missing metadata than with a single-device display problem, although only the label or distributor can correct the underlying record.
How to interpret incomplete or conflicting details
A short credit list is not proof of no other contributors
The page displays the roles included in the metadata delivered for that recording. If only a writer is listed, do not assume that the production or performance credits were deliberately excluded; the provider may simply have supplied fewer fields.
Different versions can carry different metadata
An album track, radio edit, live recording, remix and reissue are separate recordings from a metadata perspective. Their credits and artwork can differ even when the title is almost identical. Always identify the version before comparing details.
Artwork is an identifier, not a complete record
A cover image can help you recognize a release in Samples or an album result, but it does not establish the recording’s full credits. Use the song menu and credits page for contributor information, and use the album page to confirm the release context.
