Start with CareerOneStop’s Local Training Finder. Search for “Artificial Intelligence,” then repeat the search with the specific skill or job title you want. Enter your city, state, or ZIP code, compare the programs returned, and contact your nearest American Job Center and state labor department about eligibility, funding, and support services. A directory listing is a starting point—not proof that a class is open, affordable, or funded for you—so confirm dates, total cost, prerequisites, delivery format, and enrollment with the provider.

Decide what “AI training” means for your career

The phrase AI job training covers very different outcomes. A short workshop for using generative AI at work is not equivalent to a program that prepares you for machine-learning engineering. Define the work you want before searching, or a broad directory query may return options that are difficult to compare.

AI literacy for an existing job

These courses focus on practical use of AI tools in an occupation such as marketing, administration, health care, education, customer service, or manufacturing. Look for instruction on workflow design, data handling, privacy, verification of AI output, and the software used in your target workplace. A short course can be appropriate when you already have the occupational knowledge and need to add AI capability.

Technical preparation for data or AI roles

Programs aimed at data analysis, automation, machine learning, or AI development normally require more time and stronger foundations. Check whether the curriculum includes programming, statistics, databases, model evaluation, cloud or deployment concepts, and project work. Read the prerequisites carefully rather than assuming that a course labeled “AI” starts at beginner level.

A bridge to a different occupation

If you are changing careers, prioritize programs that explain the job target, provide a recognized credential or award, connect learners with employers, and publish completion or employment information. A program may teach useful skills without being designed as a complete route into an AI occupation.

Use CareerOneStop’s Local Training Finder first

CareerOneStop’s Local Training Finder searches by program or occupation and location. It includes short-term offerings as well as two- and four-year college programs. In a U.S. search snapshot taken October 13, 2026, entering “Artificial Intelligence” returned 184 programs. That number belongs to the directory at that moment; listings and counts can change.

Run a broad search, then narrower searches

  1. Open the Local Training Finder and choose the option to search for a training program or occupation.
  2. Enter Artificial Intelligence and your city, state, or ZIP code. Review how far the location filter reaches and whether results are online, in person, or mixed.
  3. Repeat the search with the job or skill you actually want. Useful examples include data analyst, machine learning, Python, data visualization, automation, or an AI application within your existing occupation.
  4. Use the available filters for award or degree, provider, and WIOA-certified programs. Record the result link or program name so you can ask the provider precise questions later.

The broad term is useful for discovery, but it can combine introductory classes, certificates, associate or bachelor’s programs, and other offerings. A narrower occupation or skill search usually produces a more manageable comparison set.

What the directory can and cannot tell you

The finder is a national discovery tool. Its information is drawn from Department of Education IPEDS data and Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration Eligible Training Provider Performance Data, according to the finder page. It can reveal program types, providers, locations, awards, and some eligibility indicators. It does not guarantee that a specific cohort is currently enrolling, that the displayed information reflects the latest tuition, or that you personally qualify for funding.

Interpret the WIOA indicator correctly

A WIOA marker in the finder means the listed program has been determined to prepare students for employment in an in-demand career and is eligible for WIOA funding. That is a program-level designation. It is not an individual approval and does not promise that tuition will be paid.

How to use the marker

  • Treat it as a reason to ask your local American Job Center about the program.
  • Ask which WIOA program or funding stream applies in your area and whether the training must be on the state’s current eligible-provider list.
  • Ask what personal eligibility rules, documentation, assessments, and approval steps apply before you enroll.
  • Do not pay a nonrefundable deposit assuming reimbursement will follow. Get the funding decision and payment process in writing from the responsible workforce office.

CareerOneStop’s WIOA-Eligible Training Program Finder routes users to state directories. If you are unsure whether you qualify, the finder directs you to contact a local American Job Center.

Contact an American Job Center

CareerOneStop states that “American Job Centers (AJCs) provide free help to job seekers for a variety of career and employment-related needs.” CareerOneStop’s locator describes nearly 2,300 centers nationwide in its 2026 snapshot. Centers are funded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration, but services differ by location.

Ask for the right services

When you call, email, or visit, explain the role or skill you are targeting and the programs you found. Depending on the center, staff may provide:

  • Career counseling and an assessment of your current skills.
  • Information about local training opportunities and approved providers.
  • Job-search assistance, résumé guidance, and referrals to employers.
  • Information about supportive services that may remove barriers to training.
  • Instructions for applying for WIOA or other local assistance.

Use the center’s own eligibility process. Ask whether an orientation, intake appointment, skills assessment, or employment plan is required, and ask how long approval normally takes. A center may have rules about when training can begin, so contact it before registering.

A short message you can send

You can write: “I am seeking training for [target role or skill] in [city or ZIP code]. I found these programs in CareerOneStop: [program names]. Can you tell me whether they are on the current eligible-provider list, whether I may qualify for assistance, what documents and steps are required, and whether supportive services are available?”

Check your state labor department

USAGov recommends checking your state labor department for job-training programs and points people to CareerOneStop for help finding training and ways to pay. State agencies may maintain their own eligible-provider directory, explain local workforce regions, publish application deadlines, or identify programs not obvious in a national search.

Questions for the state or regional office

  • Which agency or workforce board serves your address?
  • Where is the current state directory of WIOA-eligible providers?
  • Are there state grants, scholarships, incumbent-worker funds, or sector partnerships relevant to AI or data skills?
  • Are online programs allowed, and are there residency or attendance requirements?
  • What costs can assistance cover—tuition only, or also exams, books, transportation, equipment, or child care?
  • What deadlines apply, and must approval occur before enrollment?

Rules, funding limits, and deadlines are local and can change. Confirm them with the agency handling your application rather than relying on an old program page or a general statement from a provider.

Compare programs on outcomes, not labels

Once you have a short list, compare the same facts for every option. A polished title such as “AI bootcamp” says little about the actual job outcome.

Comparison point What to verify Why it matters
Target role or skill Named occupation, tasks, software, and level Shows whether the curriculum matches your goal rather than merely mentioning AI.
Credential or award Certificate, industry credential, diploma, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree Employers and funding programs may treat awards differently.
Prerequisites Education, work experience, math, programming, assessments, or placement tests Reveals whether you can start successfully and what preparation you need.
Duration and schedule Hours, weeks, part-time or full-time schedule, start dates Lets you match training to work, caregiving, and benefit requirements.
Delivery and location In person, online, hybrid, campus, live instruction, or self-paced study Distance, internet access, attendance, and hands-on needs affect completion.
Total cost Tuition plus fees, exams, materials, equipment, and required software A posted tuition figure may exclude costs you still have to pay.
Funding and eligibility WIOA status, scholarships, grants, employer support, and your confirmed approval A program marker does not establish personal eligibility.
Employer connection Internships, projects, work-based learning, advisory employers, or placement support Shows how training relates to actual hiring.
Published outcomes Completion, employment, earnings, and the measurement period Helps you judge results when the provider reports them clearly.
Accessibility and support Disability accommodations, tutoring, advising, technology help, and language support Support can determine whether a demanding course is workable.
Current enrollment Next cohort, available seats, application deadline, and start date Directory data do not confirm that a place is available now.

Use TrainingProviderResults.gov when data are published

TrainingProviderResults.gov lets users search by career group or keyword and location. Where data are available, compare completion and employment rates and other provider information. Check the period and population behind each figure. A rate from an earlier cohort, a small graduating class, or a different campus may not describe the class you are considering. If a provider has no published outcome data, record that as “not published” and ask why, rather than treating the absence as a positive result.

Verify every program directly before committing

Call or email the provider after using the public directories. Ask for a written answer to the following:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Is the exact program currently accepting applications?
  2. What is the next start date, application deadline, and expected completion date?
  3. What is the total amount due, including registration, technology, exam, materials, and graduation fees?
  4. What credential or award is issued, and who recognizes it?
  5. What are the prerequisites and how are they assessed?
  6. How many hours are instructor-led, and how much independent work is expected?
  7. Is the program fully online, live online, in person, or hybrid? Are attendance or residency rules enforced?
  8. What computer, internet connection, software, or data access must students supply?
  9. What accommodations, tutoring, advising, and career services are available?
  10. Which completion and employment outcomes apply to this exact program and recent cohorts?
  11. Is the program currently listed as WIOA eligible in the relevant state directory, and what must a student do before enrollment?

Save the answer, catalog page, and fee schedule with the date you checked them. If two sources disagree, ask the provider and workforce office which record controls.

Find ways to pay without assuming approval

Potential support can come from several places, but each has separate rules. Ask the American Job Center and state labor department about WIOA and other public assistance. Ask the provider about scholarships, grants, payment plans, employer reimbursement, and institutional aid. Ask your employer whether the training qualifies for professional-development funding or a transition program.

What to budget

  • Tuition and mandatory institutional fees.
  • Certification or examination fees.
  • Books, lab access, software subscriptions, and a suitable computer.
  • Internet, transportation, parking, or relocation costs.
  • Child care, lost work hours, or other attendance-related expenses.

Public assistance may cover some costs and not others. Do not purchase equipment or leave a job until you know which expenses are approved, when payment occurs, and what happens if you withdraw or do not complete the program.

Consider specialized public programs

USAGov’s job-training guidance also points to specialized services for groups such as older workers and young adults. If you fall into one of those groups, ask whether a dedicated program or eligibility route exists in your state. The rules and names of these services vary, so use the state agency or local center for current details.

The Department of Labor’s Strengthening Community Colleges grants support college capacity for training connected to employer skill needs and in-demand industries. The program can help colleges build capacity, but you should not assume that a particular local AI course is funded by one of these grants. Verify the college and award details. The Department of Labor identified May 20, 2026 as the Round 6 funding-announcement deadline; that date has passed, so it is not a current application deadline for a reader seeking training now.

When your search returns no nearby option

Expand the search term, not just the radius

Try the occupational result that matches the work you want. An employer may describe an AI job using terms such as data analysis, automation, software development, or business intelligence rather than “artificial intelligence.”

Check online and hybrid delivery

Filter for online or mixed formats, then ask how live attendance, testing, labs, and state residency work. “Online” can still require scheduled classes or an in-person examination.

Ask the workforce center about adjacent training

A center may know about a local data, cloud, cybersecurity, or programming program that supplies a foundation for AI work. Do not assume an adjacent course is equivalent; compare its stated job outcome with your goal.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Recheck later

Training calendars and eligible-provider lists change. A program absent today may appear in a later directory update, while a listed course may stop accepting students. Record the date of each search.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Searching only “AI.” The result set can be too broad. Add the specific role, tool, or skill.
  • Confusing a listing with an opening. Confirm the current cohort directly with the provider.
  • Reading WIOA as a personal guarantee. Ask the American Job Center to determine your eligibility before enrolling.
  • Comparing advertised tuition only. Request the complete cost, including exams, materials, software, and equipment.
  • Ignoring prerequisites. Ask about math, coding, experience, and placement requirements.
  • Using old outcome figures. Check the cohort, campus, date range, and definition of “employed.”
  • Choosing a format you cannot sustain. Match attendance, commuting, internet, and schedule requirements to your circumstances.
  • Assuming a grant name proves local funding. Verify the specific college, award, and course.
  • Paying before public review. Get funding instructions and written approval when required.

A practical decision checklist

  1. Write the target job, current experience, preferred schedule, and maximum realistic travel distance.
  2. Search CareerOneStop for “Artificial Intelligence” and at least two narrower job or skill terms.
  3. Save several programs and note award, duration, format, provider, prerequisites, and WIOA indicator.
  4. Locate the nearest American Job Center and identify the state labor department or workforce board serving your address.
  5. Ask about eligibility, required documents, approval timing, supportive services, and the current state eligible-provider list.
  6. Use TrainingProviderResults.gov to compare published completion and employment information when available.
  7. Contact each provider to verify the exact cohort, complete cost, curriculum, technology requirements, accessibility, and outcomes.
  8. Compare the options in writing and select only after you understand funding and enrollment conditions.
  9. Keep copies of program pages, emails, cost estimates, approvals, and deadlines.

Questions readers commonly ask

Is there a single national list of free AI training?

No. CareerOneStop helps locate programs, while funding decisions and no-cost availability depend on the provider, state, local workforce system, and your circumstances. Ask the American Job Center and state labor department about current support rather than relying on a “free” label.

Does an online program qualify for WIOA support?

That depends on the program’s status and the rules applied by your state and local workforce office. Ask the American Job Center before enrolling; the directory’s WIOA marker alone does not decide your case.

Why does a provider appear in one search but not another?

Results depend on the search term, location, filters, data source, and directory updates. Search both the broad AI term and the occupational term that describes your intended work.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What if a provider will not share employment outcomes?

Record the outcome information as not published, ask what internal data it can provide, and compare the program with providers that report completion or employment measures. Do not infer success from marketing language.

How often should I recheck a listing?

Recheck whenever you are ready to apply and again before paying. Program dates, seats, tuition, eligibility lists, and deadlines can change after a directory snapshot.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
