To find a fireteam for Wrath of the Machine, first confirm that you own Destiny: Rise of Iron on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Then post a complete six-player LFG request in an active Destiny community, stating your platform, date, start time and time zone, open slots, microphone and language requirements, and whether you want a teaching or experienced run.
Do not assume Bungie’s current Fireteam Finder is a native queue for this Destiny 1 raid. Bungie’s Fireteam Finder documentation describes a Destiny 2 feature, so community recruiting remains the practical approach for Wrath of the Machine.
What you need before you recruit
The correct game and expansion
Wrath of the Machine is the raid included with Destiny: Rise of Iron. Bungie launched Rise of Iron on September 23, 2016. You need access to that expansion on the account and console you will use for the raid; owning a different Destiny release is not enough.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA supported console
Bungie identifies Rise of Iron as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One content. Do not advertise a PS3 or Xbox 360 run for this expansion. Bungie’s legacy-support notice says Destiny 1 is no longer receiving planned game updates or content, while Rise of Iron content continues on PS4 and Xbox One with limited access to some older activities.

Six people, not a partial group
Plan around a six-player fireteam. Bungie’s September 22, 2016 launch coverage described the raid with the line, “Tomorrow, we’ll watch six of you become legends.” Your listing should therefore show how many places remain until the group reaches six.
Choose the recruiting approach that fits your run
Different listings solve different problems. Decide whether you need immediate players, a scheduled session, instruction, or a fast experienced clear before you post.
| Recruiting approach | Best use | What to specify | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Community LFG post | Finding several players for a planned or near-term session | Platform, six-player target, date, start time, time zone, open slots, microphone, language, and run goal | Responses depend on who is active when you post |
| Sherpa or teaching request | First clears or groups that want mechanics explained | That you are learning, how many players need teaching, preferred pace, and full-session availability | A teaching run can take longer than an experienced clear |
| Experienced-run listing | Players who already know the encounters and want a focused clear | Prior completion expectation, normal or challenge goal, start time, and communication requirements | Players seeking instruction may not fit the group |
| Private scheduled group | Friends or a regular team that can commit to one time | Confirmation deadline, backup-player plan, platform IDs, and expected session length | You must replace anyone who cancels |
| Bungie Fireteam Finder | General information about Bungie’s listing concept | Check that any listing actually identifies Destiny 1, Rise of Iron, and your console | Bungie’s published guide is for Destiny 2, not proof of a supported Destiny 1 raid queue |
Step 1: Verify access before you post
- Check the console. Confirm that you will play on PS4 or Xbox One. If your account is on PS3 or Xbox 360, stop before recruiting; Bungie’s platform notice does not list those consoles for Rise of Iron.
- Check the expansion. Make sure your account has Destiny: Rise of Iron access. A practical product description such as “Destiny: Rise of Iron PS4” can help you identify the correct edition, but verify the seller, region, inventory, and condition before purchasing.
- Open the game before the session. Sign in with the account that owns the content and confirm that the raid is available from your character’s activity options. This prevents a group from waiting while you resolve an account or installation issue.
- Decide who will host the listing. The person posting should be available to answer messages, collect platform IDs, and confirm the final roster.
Step 2: Define exactly what you are recruiting for
A vague request produces mismatched replies. Before publishing, choose the details that determine whether six strangers can play together.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Platform: write PS4 or Xbox One, not simply “console.”
- Date and start time: include the calendar date, clock time, and time zone. “20:00 UTC” is clearer for an international group than “tonight.”
- Open slots: state the number of places still available and the total target of six.
- Run type: identify a normal clear, a challenge-oriented attempt, or another specific goal you have in mind.
- Experience level: say whether the group is teaching, mixed-experience, or experienced only. If you are new, say so directly.
- Communication: state whether a microphone is required, which language the group will use, and whether players should be able to hear encounter explanations.
- Time commitment: ask applicants to confirm that they can stay for the planned session rather than leaving after one encounter.
- Contact method: explain how players should exchange platform IDs and where final confirmations will be posted.
Bungie’s Fireteam guidance identifies activity, platform, player count, schedule, microphone, language, and character as useful listing fields. Those fields also make a community post easier to scan.

Step 3: Copy a complete LFG post
Use a literal title that answers the first questions immediately. Replace the example details with your own information:
Wrath of the Machine | PS4 | 5 spots | teaching run | 20:00 UTC
In the post body, include the remaining context:
Activity: Wrath of the Machine (Destiny 1 / Rise of Iron)
Platform: PS4
Date and start: [date], 20:00 UTC
Open slots: 5 (6-player fireteam)
Goal: First clear, teaching pace
Experience: New players welcome; patient explanations expected
Mic/language: Microphone preferred; English voice chat
Availability: Please stay for the full session
Join: Reply with your platform ID and confirm you own Rise of Iron
The bracketed fields in this example are fill-ins, not facts about a particular event. Keep the final post specific enough that a reader can decide in one pass whether the group suits them.
Step 4: Recruit in active Destiny community spaces
Use current Destiny community LFG spaces where players still discuss legacy activities. Search with terms that identify both the game and the raid, such as “Wrath of the Machine,” “D1 raid teaching,” or “Rise of Iron sherpa,” followed by “PS4” or “Xbox One.” The platform and game-version words matter because a search for the raid name alone can return Destiny 2 conversations or unrelated historical posts.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →When you find a listing, read its date and platform before replying. A post that does not show a current start time, console, or Destiny 1 context may not be usable. If you are responding rather than hosting, provide the details the host needs: your platform, whether you have cleared the raid, whether you want teaching, your microphone and language fit, and whether you can attend the whole session.

Step 5: Find a sherpa for a first clear
Bungie’s September 29, 2016 post acknowledged that “there are now many Sherpas in the community who know the path to glory” and encouraged players who had not tried the raid to request a guide. That remains the right model for a first clear: look for a player or group explicitly offering instruction instead of joining an experienced-only listing and hoping the pace will adapt.
What to put in a sherpa request
- Say how many members are new to Wrath of the Machine.
- Ask for a teaching pace and explanations rather than a blind speed attempt.
- Confirm that every learner can use the agreed voice-chat language.
- Give the exact start time and say how long the group can remain available.
- Ask the guide to identify the platform and confirm that the session is for Destiny 1 and Rise of Iron.
How to recognize a compatible guide listing
A useful sherpa post states the platform, activity, start time, open slots, and teaching expectation. It should not require you to infer whether the guide is discussing the original raid or a different game. If the listing says “experienced only,” “no teaching,” or uses a different console, choose another group rather than arguing about the requirements.
Step 6: Screen applicants for compatibility
Recruiting six names is not the same as forming a workable team. Ask a short set of questions before adding someone to the roster:
- Are you on the listed PS4 or Xbox One platform?
- Do you own and have access to Rise of Iron?
- Have you completed the raid, or are you joining to learn?
- Can you use the group’s microphone and language setup?
- Can you stay for the full scheduled session?
Match the answers to the listing. A new player is a good fit for a teaching run but may not fit an experienced-only clear. Someone who cannot remain for the planned session may be a poor choice even if they know the encounters. Agreeing on pace and availability is more valuable than selecting applicants solely for speed or power level.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Step 7: Lock the roster and prevent last-minute confusion
- Maintain a visible count. Record the host plus each confirmed player until the total reaches six. Mark tentative replies separately from confirmed places.
- Send one confirmation message. Repeat the activity, platform, date, start time, time zone, run type, voice-chat language, and meeting instructions.
- Set a response deadline. Ask tentative players to confirm by a specific time so you can replace non-responders.
- Keep a short backup list. A backup is useful when someone cancels, but do not treat a backup as a confirmed seventh player.
- Reconfirm shortly before launch. Ask each player to acknowledge the final time and platform. If someone cannot confirm, contact the next compatible applicant.
How to handle Bungie Fireteam Finder
Bungie’s Fireteam Finder guide explains that Destiny 2 players can open Fireteam Finder from the Roster tab or an activity launch screen, search listings, or create one. A separate Bungie guide describes listing fields and joining mechanics. Those documents are useful for understanding Bungie’s terminology, but they identify the feature as a Destiny 2 system.
Do not present Fireteam Finder as proof that Destiny 1 has a supported, native Wrath of the Machine queue. If you encounter a Bungie listing or discussion, verify all of the following before relying on it:
- It explicitly says Destiny 1 and Rise of Iron.
- It names PS4 or Xbox One.
- It gives a current date and start time.
- It identifies whether the group is teaching or experienced.
If any of those details are missing, use an active community LFG post instead of assuming the listing will place you in the correct raid.
Common recruiting problems and fixes
Replies are for the wrong game
Add “Destiny 1 / Rise of Iron” to both the title and the first line of the body. Mention the console as well. This reduces confusion with Destiny 2 activities that use similar community terminology.

You have interest but no complete team
Keep the post active, state the exact number of remaining slots, and repost the start time when it moves closer. Ask interested players to provide platform IDs and availability rather than replying with a generic “interested.”
Experienced and new players disagree about pace
Pause recruitment and label the run clearly. Convert the listing to “teaching” if learners need explanations, or start a separate experienced-only group. Do not promise a teaching run while privately expecting a fast clear.
A player cannot communicate
Use the microphone and language requirements from the listing. If a player cannot hear instructions or communicate in the agreed language, find a replacement before launch when possible.
Recommended Free Tools
A player lacks the expansion
Ask every applicant to confirm Rise of Iron access before counting them toward the six. A player who owns only another Destiny release cannot substitute for the required expansion.
Someone cancels on the day
Contact the next compatible backup, update the open-slot count, and send the revised roster to everyone. If the replacement changes the run from teaching to experienced or vice versa, tell the whole group before starting.
Pre-session checklist
- Six total players are confirmed, or a named backup is ready.
- Every player is on PS4 or Xbox One.
- Every player has Destiny: Rise of Iron access.
- The activity is identified as Wrath of the Machine in Destiny 1.
- The date, start time, and time zone are written in one message.
- The group has agreed on teaching, experienced, normal, or challenge-oriented expectations.
- Microphone and language requirements are understood.
- Players have exchanged the required platform IDs through the agreed community channel.
- Everyone knows whether they are expected to stay for the full session.
What the raid’s legacy status means for your search
Destiny 1 is a legacy game: Bungie states that it “will no longer receive planned game updates or content.” That does not change the six-player structure of Wrath of the Machine, but it does mean you should not plan around a modern, actively maintained matchmaking pipeline. Community availability is the variable to manage, so a specific date, time zone, platform, and backup plan are more useful than a general request for “people sometime.”
The practical answer is therefore straightforward: verify the correct expansion and console, recruit six compatible players through a current Destiny community, and make the run type and schedule explicit. Treat Bungie’s Fireteam Finder material as Destiny 2 documentation unless a listing independently confirms a Destiny 1 session.
