In Alpha 20 and later, 7 Days to Die uses an EOS ID—not a SteamID—for player references in server administration. If you control a Windows client, the most practical method is to start a single-player game, exit normally, and inspect %APPDATA%7DaysToDieSaves. The save name associated with that player is identified by a Steam Community procedure as the player’s EOS ID.
Server administrators can also find the identifier in player user-file names or entries, serveradmin.xml, and server console output. The exact display varies by release and hosting setup, so do not treat a SteamID, an Epic display name, and the game’s EOS ID as interchangeable.
Why 7 Days to Die uses an EOS ID
The Fun Pimps added Epic Online Services (EOS) in the Alpha 20 update announced on December 1, 2021. The stated reasons were to future-proof the game, support newer anti-cheat capabilities, and leave room for other platforms and future crossplay.
For a normal player, the integration is largely invisible. The announcement says that players do not need an account on Epic’s platforms. In this context, EOS uses the player’s SteamID as an input and matches it to an identifier that is valid for 7 Days to Die. That resulting identifier is what the game uses for administrative references.

Alpha 20 changed the places where administrators see player identifiers. The official notes specifically identify user-file names, IDs in serveradmin.xml, and server console output or commands as locations that now use the player’s EOS ID instead of the old SteamID reference.
What an EOS ID is—and what it is not
It is a game-specific player identifier
The EOS ID used by 7 Days to Die identifies the player record that the game and its server tools use. It is not necessarily a readable username. Depending on where you find it, it may appear as a long alphanumeric string in a filename, an XML entry, or console output.
It is not your SteamID
A SteamID is the identifier assigned by Steam. Alpha 20 may use Steam to establish the player’s identity, but server administration references are stored and displayed as EOS IDs. Pasting a SteamID into a setting that expects an EOS ID can fail even when the Steam account is the correct one.
It is not an Epic display name
An Epic display name is a human-readable account label. The EOS ID used by the game is an internal identifier. Do not copy a player’s visible Epic name into serveradmin.xml or an administrative command unless a tool explicitly labels that field as an EOS ID.
Method 1: find your own EOS ID from a Windows save
This is the most accessible method when you control the Windows PC that runs the game. It is a client-side procedure documented by a Steam Community answer dated December 21, 2021, rather than a universal in-game menu. File naming can change in later releases, so use it as a practical method and verify the result against the server record when possible.
Step 1: start a single-player game
- Launch 7 Days to Die through the account whose EOS ID you need.
- Choose the single-player option and start a game. The map and world can be new or existing; the important part is that the account enters a single-player save.
- Wait until the world has loaded completely. Entering the world gives the game an opportunity to create or update the player save.
Step 2: exit cleanly
- Leave the world through the game’s normal exit or quit controls.
- Wait for the game to finish writing the save before closing Steam or shutting down Windows.
A clean exit matters because the folder and its naming are generated or updated when the game saves. If you inspect the directory while the game is still running, you may see incomplete data or no newly created entry.

Step 3: open the Saves directory
In File Explorer, enter this path in the address bar:
C:Users<USERNAME>AppDataRoaming7DaysToDieSaves
You can use the shorter environment-variable form instead:
%APPDATA%7DaysToDieSaves
%APPDATA% resolves to the current Windows user’s roaming application-data folder, so it avoids typing the Windows account name. If File Explorer does not open the location, confirm that you are using the same Windows profile that ran the game.
Step 4: open the map and save folders
- Inside
Saves, open the folder for the map you played. - Open the folder for the specific save or world.
- Look for the
Playerdirectory and inspect the player-related save naming.
The community procedure describes the save name as the player’s EOS ID. In practice, record the exact string, including every letter and number, rather than copying only part of a filename. Avoid adding spaces or changing capitalization.

Keep a temporary note of the value before editing any server files. If you are adding yourself as an administrator, compare the value with the identifier shown by the dedicated server’s user file or console output. A match across two game-generated locations is stronger evidence than relying on a filename alone, particularly if the game has been updated since the save was created.
Method 2: find a player’s EOS ID from server administration data
Use this method when you administer the dedicated server or have access to its files and console. Alpha 20’s official notes identify three relevant sources: player user-file names or entries, serveradmin.xml, and server console output or commands.

Check player user files or entries
Dedicated servers maintain player-related data. Depending on the server build and hosting environment, the EOS ID can appear in the filename of a user file or in the player identifier recorded inside that file. Do not assume that every file with a player name contains the EOS ID; inspect the identifier field or naming convention used by that installation.
Back up the file before changing it. If several players have similar display names, use the EOS ID value—not the display name—to distinguish them.

Inspect serveradmin.xml
The administrative configuration file stores player IDs used for permissions. Open the copy belonging to the server instance you actually run, not a template supplied by a control panel. Look for the player entry and identify the value that the file treats as the user ID. In Alpha 20-era administration, that value is an EOS ID.
Configuration syntax differs between releases and server managers. Preserve the existing XML structure, quotation marks, and element names. Add or replace only the identifier value required by the file’s existing format. A malformed XML file can prevent the server from loading its permissions even when the EOS ID itself is correct.
Review console output
When a player connects, disconnects, or is referenced by an administrative action, the server console may print the player’s EOS ID. Search the console or its log for the player event and copy the complete identifier. The official Alpha 20 notes confirm that console output and commands use EOS IDs, but the reviewed documentation does not publish one universal command that prints any player’s EOS ID on demand.
For that reason, do not rely on an invented command or assume that a command from a mod, hosting panel, or older guide is built into the game. If a provider’s interface has a player-list field, verify that it is explicitly labeled EOS ID before using the value in an administrative entry.

If you are a player trying to supply your own ID to an administrator, use the Windows save method. If you are an administrator identifying someone who is currently joining or has an existing server record, use the server files or console so the value comes directly from the server that will enforce the permission.
Can you get the EOS ID without an Epic account?
Yes. The Alpha 20 announcement explicitly says that ordinary players do not need an account on Epic’s platforms for the EOS integration. You can play through Steam and still have a 7 Days to Die EOS ID.
Epic’s EOS documentation describes account and proxy-account models in which an external provider such as Steam can be linked to EOS services. That technical arrangement does not turn your SteamID into an Epic display name, nor does it require you to create a separate Epic account merely to administer a 7 Days to Die server.
For normal server administration, use the value exposed by the game’s save, user file, XML entry, or console. Developer documentation about SDK tokens and functions such as reconstructing an EOS_EpicAccountId from a string is intended for software integrating EOS; it is not a replacement for the identifier shown by your 7 Days to Die installation.
Is there a SteamID-to-EOS-ID converter?
There is no general conversion formula that you should apply manually. The game performs the mapping when it uses the Steam identity with EOS services, and the resulting ID is specific to the 7 Days to Die record.
To obtain the value reliably:
- Have the player create and exit a Windows single-player save, then report the save-derived identifier.
- Read the player’s identifier from the dedicated server’s user record or console output.
- Use a hosting panel or mod only when its documentation clearly identifies the field as the 7 Days to Die EOS ID.
Do not paste a 64-bit SteamID into an EOS field, and do not assume that an online “converter” understands the game’s account mapping. A number that looks plausible is not proof that it is the identifier your server expects.

Platform and version limitations
Windows client versus other clients
The documented save-folder procedure is for a Windows installation using the roaming application-data path. Console editions and Linux-hosted clients do not necessarily expose the same directory structure. If you cannot access the Windows path, ask the server administrator to read the value from the server’s player record or console instead of trying to reproduce a Windows-only procedure.
Later game releases
The official change described here comes from Alpha 20, announced December 1, 2021. Later updates can change filenames, directories, logging, or administrative interfaces. Treat the path and save-name behavior as version-sensitive. The underlying administrative distinction remains important: the value required by an Alpha 20-era server configuration is an EOS ID, not the former SteamID reference.

A player can have multiple worlds. Open the map and save that was actually started with the account you are identifying. If you inspect an old or different save, you may record an identifier from the wrong player record or fail to see a newly generated folder.
Troubleshooting
The Saves folder is missing
- Confirm that you launched and entered a single-player world with the intended account.
- Exit through the game menu and wait for disk activity to finish.
- Use
%APPDATA%7DaysToDieSavesinstead of typing a guessed user path. - Check that you are signed in to the same Windows profile that ran the game.
You see several folders or identifiers
Match the map and save folder to the world you just opened. Record the complete player-related name and compare it with the server’s user file or console event. Do not choose an entry solely because it is the newest or longest string.
The server rejects the ID
- Check that you copied the EOS ID exactly, without quotation marks, spaces, or line breaks.
- Make sure the server expects an EOS ID in the field you edited; Alpha 20 changed administrative references, but third-party tools may use their own labels.
- Validate the XML structure after editing
serveradmin.xml. - Restart or reload permissions only according to the server’s documented procedure.
- If the value came from a local save, verify it against a server-generated user record.
A control panel shows “player ID” without saying which kind
Do not infer the identifier type from the label. Check the panel’s documentation or compare the value with a known EOS ID from console output or a server file. If the panel cannot identify the format, use the server’s own files as the authoritative source.
You are looking for a built-in command
The reviewed official notes confirm that console output and commands refer to EOS IDs, but they do not establish one universal command for printing a player’s ID. Avoid commands copied from unrelated games, mods, or older SteamID guides. Use an event log, user file, or administrative interface that explicitly exposes the EOS value.

An EOS ID is an account-linked administrative identifier. Share it only with people who need it to configure the server, and avoid posting complete player lists publicly. Before changing serveradmin.xml or user files, make a backup so you can restore the previous permissions if the server fails to parse the edited file.
Keep a record of which server, map, and date produced an identifier. This prevents an old local save from being mistaken for a current server record after a migration, reinstall, or major update.
