Use the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) Data Portal to locate the company’s latest dividend announcement, then open the issuer’s underlying notice. That notice—not a generic dividend calendar—states the relevant book-closure period, transfer cut-off and conditions for entitlement. Check the ex-entitlement date in the exchange action details, and verify actual payment by checking the designated bank account and the broker, CDC participant or share registrar channel connected to your holding.

No public company announcement can prove that a particular investor’s bank account has been credited. Personal receipt depends on the shareholder’s records, holding type and bank details.

What the three dates and payment status actually mean

Pakistan-listed dividend notices contain several dates that answer different questions. Treating one as another is the most common source of mistaken eligibility and payment claims.

Item What it tells you Where to verify it
Ex-dividend (ex-entitlement) date The trading date from which a ready-delivery purchase does not carry the stated dividend entitlement. The PSX action details, exchange calendar and the issuer’s notice.
Book-closure start and end The interval during which the company closes its share-transfer books to determine the entitled holders. The issuer-filed dividend and closure-of-share-transfer-books announcement.
Transfer or lodgement cut-off An earlier deadline by which a transfer, certificate or shareholder information must reach the specified registrar or company office. The detailed issuer notice; it can be earlier than book closure.
Payment or dispatch date When the company says the dividend was processed, dispatched or made available for electronic credit. A subsequent company payment notice, account statement or investor-service response.
Personal credit status Whether your own designated bank account actually received the money. Your bank statement plus your broker, CDC participant or registrar records.

“Book closure” is therefore not the same as “ex-dividend,” and a company’s statement that payment was processed is not proof of an individual credit.

Find the issuer’s current announcement on PSX

  1. Open the PSX Data Portal. Search by the listed company’s legal name or stock symbol. Use the Company Announcements and Financial Announcements areas; the portal also provides a Payouts destination.
  2. Filter for the relevant action. Look for a dividend declaration, interim or final dividend, and a notice referring to closure of the share-transfer books. Confirm that the issuer and security match your holding.
  3. Open the underlying notice, not only the search-row summary. The financial-announcements table gives useful fields, but the attached issuer document contains the operative dates, conditions, transfer cut-offs and instructions for shareholder information.
  4. Check whether a newer notice supersedes it. A revised book-closure period or correction can replace an earlier announcement. Use the most recently filed notice that expressly applies to the same dividend action.
  5. Save the document and record the source date. Keep the announcement date, dividend type and amount, book-closure start and end, ex-entitlement information, transfer cut-off and any bank-detail instructions together. This prevents later confusion when a payment notice appears.

The PSX listing is the best starting point, but the issuer notice controls the details for that particular corporate action.

Read every date and condition in the notice

Announcement date and dividend type

Record when the board or company announced the dividend and whether it is interim, final or another stated distribution. The type can affect the legal timing rules and the documents you need to compare.

Book-closure interval

Write down both the opening and closing dates exactly as printed. A multi-day interval is a period, not a single “record date.” Do not substitute the first or last day for an ex-entitlement date unless the notice explicitly labels it that way.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Transfer-receipt or lodgement cut-off

Some notices require transfers, physical certificates or other documents to reach the registrar before book closure begins. A notice may also set a separate last date for receiving shareholder details. Missing that earlier cut-off can delay or prevent an otherwise valid payment.

Shareholder information requirements

Read the sections requesting a National Tax Number (NTN), Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) information, International Bank Account Number (IBAN) or other identification. The notice should state whether information must be supplied to the share registrar, through a CDC participant or through your broker. Follow the route that matches how the shares are held.

Payment wording

Distinguish “declared,” “approved,” “processed,” “dispatched” and “credited.” They describe different stages. A processing or dispatch statement is evidence about the company’s action, while a bank statement is evidence about your own receipt.

How ex-dividend timing works after the move to T+1

Current PSX regulations state that a ready-delivery contract is declared on an ex-entitlement basis at least one settlement day before the book-closure start date. This is a rule about the relationship between trading, settlement and the closure period; it is not permission to infer a date from a casual calendar-day count.

NCCPL says eligible PSX trades have settled on a T+1 cycle since February 9, 2026. T+1 means the normal settlement cycle is one business day after the trade, but it does not replace the ex-entitlement date published for an individual dividend action. A holiday, a special trading arrangement or a revised issuer notice can affect the practical sequence.

  1. Find the book-closure start date in the issuer notice.
  2. Find the ex-entitlement date shown in the PSX action details or applicable notice.
  3. Confirm that the published dates reflect the current T+1 framework and the exchange calendar.
  4. Use the published action date for a purchase decision; do not calculate eligibility by counting ordinary calendar days from book closure.

If two PSX pages show different dates, treat the discrepancy as a reason to check for a later correction or contact the exchange or issuer—not as an invitation to choose the date that favors a trade.

Determine whether your holding is entitled

Book-entry shares held through a broker or CDC participant

Ask the broker or CDC participant for the position and entitlement information attached to the specific dividend action. Confirm the account’s registered name, CNIC or NTN data and IBAN. The participant can also explain whether a transfer was settled in time under the published ex-entitlement date.

Physical share certificates

Use the share registrar named in the issuer notice. Check that the certificate, transfer documentation and registered address or identification details meet the notice’s requirements. A physical holder should not assume that a broker’s electronic statement covers a certificate still recorded with the registrar.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Shares transferred near the cut-off

Compare the contract date, settlement date, ex-entitlement date and any transfer-receipt deadline. A trade executed before a date can still settle after it, and a document delivered after a registrar cut-off can be excluded from the relevant register. The issuer’s notice and the participant’s settlement record are needed to resolve such cases.

Check whether the dividend was paid

  1. Inspect the designated bank account. Listed-company cash dividends are paid electronically into the bank account designated by the entitled shareholder. Review the account statement for the expected period and search by the company, registrar or payment description shown by your bank.
  2. Check the broker or CDC statement. For book-entry holdings, review the corporate-action, cash ledger and account-statement screens. Ask the participant whether it received a payment file, rejected instruction or returned credit.
  3. Read the issuer’s payment or dispatch notice. Compare its processing date and any exception list with your own account details. A company may have completed a batch while a particular account remains uncredited because of invalid or missing information.
  4. Use the correct service channel. Contact the broker or CDC participant for electronic holdings and the registrar named in the notice for physical holdings. Include your shareholder or account number, security symbol, dividend announcement reference and a redacted bank statement if requested.
  5. Request a written status. Ask whether the payment is pending, rejected, returned, held for missing information or already credited. Record the case number and the date of the response.

What to do when the money is missing

There is no bank entry and no payment notice

Re-open the latest issuer announcement and confirm that the dividend was actually declared for your share class. Then check whether the book-closure and entitlement conditions were met. Do not treat a third-party calendar entry as proof that the company has paid.

The company says payment was processed, but your account is empty

Verify that the bank account is the one registered for the entitled shareholder and that the IBAN is complete. Ask the broker, CDC participant or registrar whether the instruction was rejected or returned. Banks can post a credit under a registrar or paying-agent name rather than the company’s trading symbol.

The notice says CNIC, NTN or IBAN information is missing

Submit the requested information through the channel specified in the notice. For book-entry shares this is commonly the broker or CDC participant; for physical shares it is commonly the share registrar. Use the exact account-holder name and follow the issuer’s document and verification requirements.

You changed banks or brokers

Ask which account was designated on the entitlement date and which participant held the position then. Updating a current profile may not automatically redirect an older dividend. The former participant or registrar may need to trace and reissue a returned payment.

Your name or identification does not match

Request the participant or registrar to explain the mismatch and the correction procedure. Do not send sensitive documents to an address that is not listed in the official notice or verified service channel.

Payment deadlines: handle conflicting statements carefully

PSX’s current Shareholders’ Rights Guide says the chief executive is responsible for cash-dividend payment within fifteen working days from declaration. A surfaced text reproducing the Companies (Distribution of Dividend) Regulations, 2017 describes ten-working-day periods for final dividends and for interim dividends in specified circumstances. Those statements conflict, and the primary regulation text and amendments must be checked before asserting a single universal deadline.

Statement What it supports How to use it
PSX Shareholders’ Rights Guide: fifteen working days from declaration Current exchange guidance about management responsibility. Use as guidance, while checking the applicable law and any exception.
Companies (Distribution of Dividend) Regulations, 2017 text reproduced in a secondary legal result: ten working days in specified final/interim cases A possible statutory period for defined circumstances. Do not treat it as a universal deadline without verifying the official, current text and amendments.

If you believe a payment is late, cite the exact notice, declaration date and applicable rule when contacting the issuer or participant. Avoid alleging non-compliance solely because one general calendar has passed.

How to judge conflicting dates and sources

Comparison test Prefer Why
Authority Issuer-filed notice and current PSX action details They apply to the exact corporate action.
Specificity The detailed notice over a generic dividend calendar It includes transfer cut-offs and shareholder conditions.
Date meaning A field explicitly labelled ex-entitlement, book closure, transfer cut-off or payment Similar-looking dates can have different legal effects.
Freshness The latest correction or superseding filing Companies can revise closure periods or instructions.
Payment evidence Your bank entry and participant/registrar trace Company-wide dispatch status cannot prove an individual credit.

Illustrative notice reading: why issuer details cannot be generalized

An issuer notice hosted through PSX, such as a 2026 Nestlé Pakistan notice, demonstrates the level of detail to expect: a defined closure interval, an earlier transfer-receipt cut-off and instructions about identification and bank information. Those dates belong only to that issuer and dividend action. Use the example to identify the fields in your own notice, never to copy its dates to another company.

Use a repeatable eligibility worksheet

For each dividend, make one worksheet rather than relying on memory or a screenshot. Write the company name, symbol and share class at the top. Then answer each question with a document or account record.

Question Evidence to attach What the answer establishes
Which dividend action is this? Latest PSX filing and issuer notice That you are looking at the correct interim or final distribution.
What are the book-closure dates? Exact wording from the notice The register-closing interval for this action.
What is the published ex-entitlement date? PSX action details or exchange calendar The trading date used for ready-delivery entitlement.
Was my trade settled in time? Broker or CDC settlement record Whether your position reached the relevant register under the action rules.
Which bank details were designated? Broker, CDC or registrar record Where an electronic credit should be sent.
What payment event occurred? Issuer payment notice and bank statement Whether the company processed a batch and whether your account received it.

Keep the worksheet with the notice and later correspondence. If support staff give a different date, ask them to identify the superseding filing or the exact field they are using. This turns a general question into a traceable record.

Portal and notice troubleshooting

  • Several companies have similar names: search with the stock symbol as well as the legal name, then match the issuer and security in the attached notice to your account statement.
  • The portal shows a summary but no operative condition: open the underlying financial-announcement document. The summary may not show an earlier transfer cut-off or an information requirement.
  • Two notices appear for the same dividend: compare filing dates and look for words such as revised, amended, correction or superseding. Use the later document only when it clearly applies to the same action.
  • The Payouts page and company announcement differ: treat the issuer-filed notice and current PSX action details as the controlling records, then ask PSX or the issuer to explain an unresolved discrepancy.
  • A payment notice names a registrar or paying agent: search the bank statement under that name, not only under the listed company’s ticker.
  • You cannot tell whether the holding is physical or book-entry: check whether you have a certificate registered with the share registrar or an electronic position shown by a broker or CDC participant. Send the query to the channel that actually maintains that record.

How to communicate a payment query

A precise query usually receives a more useful answer than “Where is my dividend?” State the company, symbol, dividend type, PSX announcement reference, your shareholder or account number, and whether the holding is electronic or physical. Include the book-closure interval, published ex-entitlement date and the bank account’s last four digits only if the recipient’s verified procedure requests them.

Ask separate questions: Was I listed as entitled? Was a payment instruction generated? Was it accepted, rejected or returned? If returned, where is the amount now and what correction is required? Which bank account or participant record was used? Request the response in writing and retain the case number. Do not email a full CNIC, NTN, IBAN or bank statement to an address copied from an unofficial calendar; use the registrar, broker or CDC contact specified in the official notice.

A date sequence without assuming a universal formula

  1. The issuer announces an interim or final dividend and files a notice with PSX.
  2. The notice states the book-closure start and end dates and may set an earlier transfer or information cut-off.
  3. PSX publishes the action’s ex-entitlement trading information. Current regulations relate that date to at least one settlement day before book closure begins.
  4. A trade made around the ex-entitlement date is checked against its settlement record under the T+1 framework effective February 9, 2026.
  5. The company determines entitled holders, processes electronic payments and may issue a dispatch or payment notice.
  6. The investor verifies the designated bank-account credit through the bank and, where necessary, traces exceptions through the broker, CDC participant or registrar.

This sequence explains why a declaration date, ex-entitlement date, book-closure period and credit date should never be collapsed into one “dividend date.”

A record-keeping checklist

  • Company name, symbol and share class.
  • Dividend type and amount stated in the notice.
  • Announcement date and the date of every later correction.
  • Book-closure start and end dates.
  • Ex-entitlement date shown by PSX.
  • Transfer, lodgement or shareholder-information cut-off.
  • Registered name, CNIC or NTN status and designated IBAN.
  • Broker or CDC participant account reference, or physical-share registrar reference.
  • Bank statement entry, payment advice and any returned-payment message.
  • Dates, names and case numbers for every support contact.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using an old T+2 explanation. Eligible PSX trades moved to T+1 effective February 9, 2026. Check the action’s published date under the current framework.
  • Calling book closure the ex-date. Record each field under its own label.
  • Relying on a reposted calendar. Open the issuer-filed notice and check for a superseding announcement.
  • Assuming “paid” means your account was credited. Verify the designated bank account and participant trace.
  • Ignoring the earlier transfer cut-off. A notice can require documents or information before the book-closure interval starts.
  • Publishing a fixed payment deadline without checking the rule. The fifteen-working-day PSX guidance and ten-working-day wording found in a secondary reproduction are not interchangeable.
  • Sending bank or identity documents through an unverified address. Use only the registrar, broker or CDC channel named in the official notice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the official ex-dividend date for a Pakistan-listed stock?

Start with the PSX Data Portal, search the company or symbol, and open the issuer’s dividend announcement. Confirm the ex-entitlement date in the PSX action details rather than relying on an unofficial calendar.

Is the book-closure start date the ex-dividend date?

No. Book closure is an interval for determining entitled holders. The ex-entitlement trading date is a separate field and should be taken from the published PSX action details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What changed when PSX moved to T+1 settlement?

NCCPL says eligible PSX trades have used T+1 settlement since February 9, 2026. This affects settlement timing but does not replace the ex-entitlement date published for a specific dividend.

How can I check whether my dividend was credited?

Review the designated bank account, then check the broker or CDC participant statement for electronic holdings. Physical shareholders should contact the registrar named in the issuer notice.

Why does a company say the dividend was paid when I received nothing?

A company-wide processing or dispatch notice does not prove an individual credit. Check the registered IBAN, CNIC or NTN information and ask the relevant participant or registrar whether the instruction was rejected or returned.

What if I bought or sold shares near book closure?

Compare the contract and settlement records with the published ex-entitlement date and any transfer-receipt cut-off. Your broker or CDC participant must confirm how that trade settled for the action.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How long should a cash dividend take?

The PSX Shareholders’ Rights Guide refers to fifteen working days from declaration, while a secondary reproduction of the 2017 regulations describes ten-working-day periods in specified cases. Because these statements conflict, verify the current applicable law before asserting a universal deadline.

Who should receive my CNIC, NTN or IBAN details?

Follow the channel stated in the issuer notice. Electronic holders generally use their broker or CDC participant, while physical holders generally use the named share registrar. Use only verified official contact details.

The Bottom Line

Find the latest issuer-filed dividend notice through the PSX Data Portal, record its book-closure and transfer cut-offs, and use the published PSX ex-entitlement date under the current T+1 framework. To prove payment, check your designated bank account and obtain a trace from your broker, CDC participant or share registrar; a company-wide dispatch statement alone is not personal credit evidence.
