In retail World of Warcraft, you do not need a summoning stone to get a dungeon group or enter a dungeon. Use Group Finder (default hotkey I) for activities that support automatic matchmaking. For Mythic and other player-assembled runs, use Premade Groups, then coordinate travel with the leader and walk through the dungeon entrance together. A listing helps you find players; it does not automatically teleport the group.
The exact dungeons and restrictions change with your character, campaign, region, difficulty and current season. The live Group Finder is therefore the final authority on what your character can queue for.
Choose the right way to form the group
WoW has three distinct ways to assemble a dungeon party. Choosing the wrong one is the main reason players think a dungeon is missing or expect a teleport that never appears.

These routes are not interchangeable. A queued activity can place you through the Dungeon Finder flow, while a premade listing is simply a recruitment board. Blizzard’s guidance specifically says that a premade group can walk through the dungeon portal when Dungeon Finder cannot be used.

Queue for an eligible dungeon with Dungeon Finder
Open the queue
- Press I to open Group Finder.
- Choose the Dungeon Finder option rather than Premade Groups.
- Select a listed dungeon or an available random-dungeon queue.
- Choose at least one combat role you can actually perform: tank, healer or damage.
- Confirm the queue and respond to the in-game prompt when a group is found.
The group-leader indicator is not a combat role. If the interface offers a leader or group-leadership choice, that does not replace selecting tank, healer or damage. A queue cannot match you correctly until a valid combat role is selected.
Read the live activity list
Only activities currently eligible for your character appear as selectable entries. Eligibility can depend on level, item level, role selection and the Timewalking campaign selected while leveling below level 60. The available pool also changes with the season, so an instance that was queueable previously may not be present now.
When the interface supports it, hover over a missing or unavailable dungeon entry. The tooltip can identify the specific requirement that is blocking it, such as level, gear, campaign or role. Treat that explanation as more reliable than a remembered list from an earlier patch.
What happens after the queue pops
Accept the prompt and follow the current in-game Dungeon Finder flow. The live interface determines the destination and entry behavior for that activity. Do not assume that the behavior of a premade Mythic run applies to a queued dungeon, or that an older expansion’s queue rules still apply to Midnight content.
Prepare before pressing Queue
Take a moment to verify your role buttons, equipment and selected activity first. A damage queue entered with a tank role selected can produce an invalid or confusing setup, while an item-level change made after opening the panel may not be reflected until the interface refreshes. If you change gear, campaign or level-related settings, close and reopen Group Finder and inspect the entry again.
For a random queue, read the activity name and difficulty before confirming. For a specific dungeon, make sure the selected entry is the one you intend to run rather than a similarly named seasonal or legacy option. The queue list is a live menu, not a permanent catalog.
Why a dungeon is missing from your queue
A missing entry usually has a concrete eligibility reason rather than being a permanent removal. Check the following in order.
Character level
Level ranges control which activities can appear. Midnight has a specific access rule: Blizzard says associated storyline quests can allow earlier dungeon access, while every dungeon becomes available at level 90 even if those quests have not been completed. The actual entries shown for your character still depend on the live game and selected difficulty.

Item level
Some activities require a minimum item level. If an entry is visible but unavailable, inspect its tooltip for the displayed gear requirement. Equip an appropriate set and reopen or refresh Group Finder so the game can recalculate eligibility.
Role selection
Queues need a valid tank, healer or damage selection. A character that can only queue as damage, for example, will not satisfy an activity that requires a different role configuration. Recheck the role buttons before assuming the dungeon itself is unavailable.
Timewalking campaign while leveling
For characters below level 60, the selected Timewalking campaign can change the dungeons offered. If the list is not the one you expected, check which campaign is active and then inspect the activity tooltip again.
Introductory quests and boosted characters
Some legacy character states require an introductory campaign quest before their dungeon queue unlocks. Blizzard also documents temporary queue restrictions for boosted characters. Complete the required introduction, allow the character’s unlocks to update, and then check Group Finder again.
Seasonal availability
The dungeon pool is not permanent. Blizzard’s Season 2 announcement describes a pool containing dungeons from Midnight, Battle for Azeroth and Dragonflight. That mixture does not mean every dungeon from those expansions is available in every season, difficulty or queue. Use the current list rather than an old guide’s complete roster.
Region, difficulty and character state
The same account can show different entries on different characters. Region, current level, selected difficulty and campaign state all affect the live result. If a friend sees a dungeon that you cannot see, compare those conditions before assuming the feature is broken. Ask the friend to read the exact activity name and difficulty; a seasonal version may not be the same queue you are viewing.
Find a Mythic or other premade run
Open the premade listings
- Press I and select Premade Groups.
- Choose the dungeon category that matches the activity you want.
- Browse listings and read the dungeon, difficulty and stated requirements before applying.
- Apply to a suitable group, or select the option to create your own listing.
Premade groups are the normal route when you want a particular dungeon or a Mythic run rather than an automatically matched activity. Older Blizzard documentation describes Mythic+ rating information in these listings, but that detailed interface guidance comes from Shadowlands. Field names and categories can change, so use whatever requirements the current interface actually displays.

Read the leader’s title and notes before applying. Confirm the named dungeon, difficulty and any requirements the leader has written. If you create the listing, state those details yourself so applicants know exactly what they are joining. A clear listing prevents a party from assembling for the wrong difficulty or instance.

Do not apply to every listing without reading it. A leader may be building a particular role mix or asking for a specific activity. Applying to a listing that does not match your role or the dungeon you want wastes time for both sides. If you create the group, keep the title and notes consistent with the selected category so the right players find it.
Confirm the invitation
After acceptance, check the party frame and chat for the leader’s instructions. Before anyone starts traveling, confirm three things: the dungeon name, the intended difficulty and where the group will meet. This short confirmation catches mismatched applications and avoids sending players to different entrances.
Reach the dungeon entrance without a summoning stone
A premade listing does not provide automatic transport. Blizzard’s event guidance tells Mythic groups to assemble and travel to the dungeon, and its support guidance states that players who cannot use Dungeon Finder can still walk into the dungeon through the dungeon portal with a premade group.

Use a simple travel plan
- Ask the group leader which entrance the party is using and whether everyone should meet there or at a nearby hub.
- Open your world map and travel through the world to that entrance. The exact route depends on the dungeon, your character’s location and the current expansion.
- Tell the group if you are still traveling or have arrived. This prevents the leader from starting while a member is in transit.
- Meet the party at the portal and enter together when the leader confirms the correct difficulty.
Do not treat the presence of a premade listing as evidence of a teleport. If a group member offers a separate travel method in the current game, follow that player’s instructions, but the guaranteed part of the process is the physical entrance: coordinate, travel and walk through the portal.
What to do if you are unfamiliar with the route
Say so in party chat rather than disappearing from the group. Ask for the entrance name, a nearby meeting point or a map direction, then report when you are on the way. The leader can decide whether to wait, replace a missing member or change the plan. This is especially important when members are coming from different zones.
Verify the difficulty before entering
Dungeon difficulty and availability depend on the instance and your character’s eligibility. Before clicking the portal, compare the leader’s stated difficulty with the difficulty shown by the game. If they do not match, stop and ask the leader to correct the setting before anyone enters. Entering the wrong mode can split the party’s plan and may require leaving and regrouping.
Midnight access rules you should know
For current Midnight content, storyline progress and level both matter. Blizzard’s launch guidance says the associated storyline quests can grant earlier access, while all dungeons become available at level 90 without those quests. That rule describes the broad access threshold, not a promise that every difficulty or seasonal activity will appear at every level.
Check your own Group Finder after each relevant level, quest or gear change. If an entry remains unavailable, hover over it and use the displayed explanation rather than assuming the level-90 rule overrides a separate gear, role or activity restriction.

Use Follower Dungeons to practice when available
Follower Dungeons are an alternative for learning a Normal-difficulty dungeon with less pressure from other players. Blizzard describes the feature as using NPC companions to fill the party while you choose your role. It is accessed through Group Finder rather than through Premade Groups.
The official guide covering this feature documents older expansion examples, including Dragonflight and The War Within. It should not be read as a complete list of current Midnight instances. Open the live feature and verify which Follower Dungeons your character can select.
When this route makes sense
- You want to learn the layout before joining a player group.
- You are practicing a tank, healer or damage role and want a lower-pressure Normal run.
- You cannot currently find a suitable player listing but an eligible Follower Dungeon is displayed.
Follower Dungeons do not replace Mythic grouping. Mythic and other player-assembled runs still require a premade listing and coordinated travel to the entrance.

If Dungeon Finder remains unavailable
Do not stay trapped on the queue screen. Blizzard’s support guidance gives a direct fallback: form a premade group and walk through the dungeon portal. Use Premade Groups to recruit the needed players, agree on the instance and difficulty, and then travel together.
If a premade group disbands while you travel
Return to Premade Groups and apply again or create a new listing. The failed listing does not change your character’s queue eligibility. When reapplying, verify that the replacement group is for the same dungeon and difficulty so you do not repeat the original mismatch.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using the wrong panel: Dungeon Finder is for automatic matchmaking; Premade Groups is for browsing or creating a player-assembled run.
- Assuming every dungeon is permanent: seasonal pools and Timewalking campaigns alter what appears.
- Confusing leadership with a combat role: select tank, healer or damage explicitly.
- Expecting the listing to summon you: recruitment and transportation are separate steps.
- Ignoring the tooltip: the hover explanation often identifies the exact level, gear, campaign or character-state restriction.
- Relying on an old roster: older articles can document a feature without representing the current Midnight pool.
- Entering before confirming difficulty: check the setting at the portal and follow the leader’s plan.
- Leaving travel ambiguous: agree on an entrance and meeting point before the party starts moving.
A quick decision path
- If the activity is listed in Dungeon Finder and you meet its requirements, select a valid role and queue.
- If you need a specific Mythic or player-organized run, open Premade Groups and apply or create a listing.
- If the dungeon is missing, hover over the entry and check level, item level, role, campaign and character restrictions.
- If a premade group accepts you, ask where to meet and travel to the entrance; do not wait for an automatic summon.
- If you are learning Normal content and Follower Dungeon is offered for your character, use NPC companions for practice.
- Before entering any premade instance, confirm the dungeon name and difficulty with the leader.
Five-minute preparation checklist
- Confirm that you are playing retail WoW and note your character’s level and current region.
- Open Group Finder with I and decide whether you need automatic matchmaking, a player-assembled run or NPC practice.
- Check every tooltip for level, item-level, campaign, role or character-state restrictions.
- If using Premade Groups, read the title and notes, then confirm the dungeon and difficulty after joining.
- Ask for the entrance and meeting point before leaving the group panel.
- Travel to the portal, announce your arrival and wait for the leader’s difficulty check.
This checklist separates the two decisions players most often combine: finding people and reaching the instance. Dungeon Finder handles eligible matching activities through its own queue flow. Premade Groups handles recruitment; the party then handles travel.

Why is a dungeon missing from my Group Finder list?
Check character level, item level, selected role, the Timewalking campaign for characters below level 60, introductory quest requirements and any boosted-character restriction. Seasonal pools also change. Hover over the entry when possible to see the game’s exact explanation.
