To file a homeowners insurance claim with Slide, first make sure everyone is safe, then report the loss through Slide’s digital Claims Center, by calling (866) 230-3758, or by emailing claims@slideinsurance.com. Save the confirmation and claim number, document damage before cleanup when it is safe, and keep a dated record of every conversation, receipt, estimate and inspection. Slide says a claims team member, claims examiner and field adjuster will contact you after submission. Eligible policyholders can also use mySlide to view claim details and status, although app access is being released gradually.

What to do before filing

Protect people first

Leave the property and call emergency services if the structure is unsafe, there is a fire, a gas leak, a medical emergency or another immediate danger. Do not enter a damaged building simply to retrieve belongings or take photographs. Wait for fire officials, utility personnel or other qualified responders to say it is safe.

Prevent additional damage without making permanent repairs

Once it is safe, take reasonable temporary measures allowed by your policy, such as shutting off water, placing a tarp over a small opening or moving undamaged property away from a leak. Do not make permanent repairs, discard damaged materials or sign a major repair contract before Slide has had an opportunity to inspect, unless Slide or your policy gives different instructions. Keep receipts for reasonable emergency work and materials.

Slide’s Claims Center summarizes the approach as “The sooner you file your claim, the better.” A policy can impose notice deadlines, and requirements differ by state and policy form, so report the loss promptly even if you are still determining the full extent of damage.

Choose a way to report the loss

Method What it is best for What to expect Record to keep
Digital Claims Center A straightforward loss when you can enter details and upload information yourself Slide says the online submission takes “just 5 minutes.” You can complete it at any time the Claims Center is available. Confirmation email, claim number and a copy or screenshot of the submitted information
Phone: (866) 230-3758 Urgent situations, accessibility needs or damage that is difficult to describe in a form A claims representative can clarify what to do next. Response and handling times are not guaranteed. Representative’s name, date, time, instructions and any reference number
Email: claims@slideinsurance.com When you want a written initial notice or need to send a concise description Include your policy information and contact details. Do not assume an email alone confirms coverage or completes every required form. Sent message, attachments, delivery or reply and the claim number once issued

Whichever method you use, ask what forms, proof, receipts, photographs and deadlines apply to your specific policy. A phone call is useful for explaining complicated circumstances; a digital submission or email creates a readily saved written record. You may use one method to report and another later to provide documents, but keep the information consistent.

Step-by-step: filing a Slide claim

  1. Check safety and stabilize the situation. Leave an unsafe home, contact emergency services when needed, and take only safe temporary measures to limit further damage.
  2. Gather basic facts. Note the date and approximate time of the event, the suspected cause, affected rooms and property, visible damage, temporary actions taken and whether the home is unlivable. If the cause is uncertain, describe what you observed instead of guessing.
  3. Locate your policy information. Have the policy number, named policyholder’s contact information, property address and declarations available. Your declarations and policy forms control deductibles, covered causes, exclusions, limits and claim deadlines.
  4. Submit the first notice of loss. Use the Claims Center, call (866) 230-3758 or email claims@slideinsurance.com. Report all known affected areas, even if the complete scope is not yet clear.
  5. Describe habitability and urgent needs. Tell Slide whether utilities are off, the property is unsafe or you cannot live there. Ask what assistance and documentation are available for temporary living arrangements; additional-living-expense coverage and limits depend on your policy.
  6. Photograph and video damage when safe. Capture wide views showing each room and close-ups showing the source and extent of damage. Photograph serial numbers, labels and unaffected areas when they help establish condition. Slide says photographs can be submitted later to claims examiners.
  7. Preserve evidence and receipts. Keep damaged materials when practical and safe. Save invoices for emergency mitigation, temporary repairs, lodging, meals or other expenses you believe may relate to the claim. Do not assume an expense is covered until Slide confirms the applicable policy provision.
  8. Save confirmation. Slide says an email confirmation and claim number follow submission. Store them in more than one place and write the claim number on every later document.
  9. Start a claim log. Record each call, email, upload, inspection, estimate, payment and promise of follow-up with the date, time, person, subject and next action.

Documents and evidence that make the claim easier to evaluate

The exact proof Slide requests depends on the loss and policy. Prepare a folder—paper, digital or both—with:

  • The policy number, declarations page and relevant endorsements.
  • Your initial description of the event, including when you discovered it and what you believe caused it.
  • Photographs and videos labeled by date, room and viewpoint.
  • Inventory lists, receipts, warranties, manuals, appraisals or other records supporting damaged personal property.
  • Emergency-service invoices, mitigation reports, temporary repair receipts and lodging records.
  • Contractor estimates, scopes of work, measurements and correspondence.
  • Inspection dates, adjuster names, claim notes and every written decision or coverage explanation.

Keep originals and send copies unless Slide specifically asks for an original. Do not alter photographs or remove metadata. If you discover additional damage after the first report, notify the assigned claims team promptly and explain when and how it was found.

What happens after you submit

Slide says a dedicated claims team member is assigned to assess your needs, help if the home is unlivable and complete the submission. A claims examiner and field adjuster should contact you in the following days. The adjuster may inspect the property, review photographs and estimates, ask for additional documents and compare the reported damage with the policy’s covered causes, exclusions, deductibles and limits.

Cooperate with the investigation while protecting your own records. Confirm appointments in writing, provide requested information by the stated deadline and ask for clarification when a request is unclear. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) advises policyholders to read the policy, ask the company what documents are needed, cooperate with the investigation and “Jot down notes and keep track of the dates of any conversations you have with your insurance agent or adjuster.”

Slide may offer eligible policyholders self-service options such as virtual inspections and expedited payments through Venmo, PayPal, ACH or a virtual debit card. Eligibility, availability and payment timing are claim-specific; an option being listed does not guarantee that it will be offered for your loss.

How to track a Slide claim

Use mySlide when your policy is eligible

The mySlide portal can show claim status and details, policy documents, billing information and agent information. Slide says online access is available the day after policy issuance. Creating an account requires the primary policyholder’s exact first and last name, property ZIP code and policy number.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The policyholder app listing updated September 1, 2026, says access is being gradually released and currently supports policies beginning with H3, H6 or D3. If your policy does not meet the current eligibility rule, or registration fails despite matching information, call Slide support rather than creating a second account or changing your legal name in the form.

mySlide Self-service access to status, claim details, policy documents, billing and agent information Gradual rollout; current account eligibility is listed for H3, H6 or D3 policy prefixes You need to check information without waiting for a representative and your policy is eligible
Claims team by phone Human explanation of a status, document request or next step Call availability and response time are not stated; you must keep your own call notes You cannot register, the portal does not answer your question or the matter is urgent or complex
Email or written upload A dated record of documents and questions A message may not provide an immediate answer or confirm coverage You are sending photographs, estimates or a written clarification and want proof of transmission

When asking for a status update, include the claim number, property address, date of loss and the specific item you need—such as whether an estimate was received, whether an inspection report is complete or what document remains outstanding. Avoid sending sensitive information to an address you cannot verify through Slide’s official channels.

Emergency services and contractor decisions

For eligible claims, Slide can connect policyholders with pre-vetted providers for water mitigation, roof tarping, roof repair or replacement and tree removal. Slide also says it will not send a vendor without your knowledge and permission.

Question Slide-connected provider Outside contractor
Slide approval and coordination May be coordinated through Slide’s emergency-service process for eligible claims You must independently notify Slide and confirm whether the proposed work is acceptable
Scope and coverage Still requires a written scope and policy review; referral does not decide coverage Obtain a detailed written estimate and compare it with the adjuster’s scope
Licensing and insurance Ask Slide or the provider for applicable licensing and insurance information Verify licensing, insurance, references and permits yourself where required
Out-of-pocket exposure Ask what you may owe, including deductible, excluded work or upgrades Do not assume Slide will pay the contractor’s full invoice; obtain written coverage confirmation
Contract terms Read the service authorization and cancellation terms before signing Slide warns homeowners to contact it before signing another contractor’s contract

Emergency stabilization can be necessary, but it is not a blank check for reconstruction. Ask the contractor to separate emergency mitigation from permanent repairs, identify materials and quantities, and photograph concealed conditions before they are covered. Never allow a vendor to pressure you into signing an assignment of benefits or broad authorization you do not understand.

Flood and storm-surge damage is handled differently

Slide’s Storm Center states: “Homeowners insurance does not cover flood.” Flooding and storm surge generally require a separate flood insurer. If you have a flood policy, report the loss to that insurer as soon as it is safe. If you do not have flood insurance, Slide directs readers to FEMA for next steps.

Describe wind, roof, water and flood damage separately when possible. A storm can produce more than one type of damage, and the applicable insurer, deductible and coverage may differ. Do not wait to report while trying to determine which cause applies; explain the facts you know and ask which carrier should handle each portion.

If Slide denies or underpays the claim

1. Request a written explanation

Ask Slide to identify the specific policy provision supporting the denial or payment, the damage included in the estimate, the damage omitted and the deductible, depreciation or limit applied. Compare the explanation with your declarations page, endorsements and full policy wording. A verbal statement without the cited provision is not enough to understand the decision.

2. Build a documented disagreement

Prepare a side-by-side list of disputed items. For each one, attach photographs, receipts, measurements, contractor estimates, expert reports or other evidence, and explain why you believe the item is related to the reported loss. Keep the chronology and all correspondence with the claim number.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Ask for reconsideration or appraisal when available

Send the package to the assigned claims contact and ask how to request reconsideration. Check your policy’s appraisal clause: it may provide a process for resolving disputes about the amount of loss, but appraisal does not necessarily decide whether the policy covers the cause of damage. Follow the clause’s deadlines and appointment rules exactly.

4. Get regulated help if the dispute remains

The NAIC advises considering an attorney or public adjuster and contacting your state insurance department’s consumer-services staff. Public adjusters are private professionals who charge fees and are regulated differently by state. Before hiring one, ask for the fee calculation, services, contract length, cancellation rights and conflicts of interest. An attorney may be appropriate when the dispute involves legal interpretation, significant damage or a potential lawsuit.

Do not sign a release, accept a final payment or abandon further claims without understanding what rights the document affects. If you accept undisputed funds, ask in writing whether the payment is partial or final and whether additional damage can still be presented.

Common mistakes that slow or weaken a claim

  • Waiting to report until every damaged item has been inventoried.
  • Entering an unsafe structure or performing work that creates a new hazard.
  • Discarding damaged materials before documenting them or obtaining instructions.
  • Making permanent repairs before an inspection without confirming the exception.
  • Giving different dates, causes or damage descriptions to Slide and contractors.
  • Signing a contractor agreement before asking Slide how the work affects the claim.
  • Failing to save receipts, photographs, estimates and communications in a dated file.
  • Assuming mySlide access is available for every policy or that a portal status is a coverage decision.
  • Treating flood or storm-surge damage as automatically covered by homeowners insurance.
  • Missing a policy, state-law or insurer deadline because no one wrote it in the claim log.

A practical claim-log format

Create one table or spreadsheet with these columns: date and time; contact method; person or company; claim number; subject; documents sent or received; instructions; promised next step; deadline; and completion date. Name digital files consistently—for example, 2026-10-17_kitchen_ceiling_wide.jpg—and back them up. Keep a separate expense ledger showing the date, vendor, purpose, amount, payment method and receipt location.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Review the log before every call. Lead with the claim number, state what has changed, ask one clearly defined question at a time and repeat the agreed next step before ending the conversation. This creates a reliable record if the claim later requires appraisal, regulatory assistance or legal review.

What Slide’s process can and cannot tell you

Submitting a claim starts an investigation; it does not establish that the loss is covered or guarantee a payment. Coverage, deductibles, depreciation, additional-living-expense limits, appraisal rights, deadlines and contractor arrangements depend on your policy, the facts of the loss and applicable state law. Read the declarations and policy forms and confirm uncertain requirements directly with Slide or your state insurance department.
