The efficient way to farm in Torchlight: Infinite is to run the highest Netherrealm difficulty your character can clear quickly and consistently, then sell genuinely valuable drops through the in-game Trade House when Flame Elementium (FE) is your goal. A harder Timemark is not automatically more profitable: deaths, slow clears, expensive map materials and unsold items can erase the apparent advantage.
Use the Netherrealm progression loop to unlock stronger content, configure a loot filter around what you are actually farming, and judge a route by completed runs, survival and the current market rather than by a single advertised currency-per-hour number.
What efficient farming means
There is no permanent, universal best route. Patch balance, your build, the season, map-material costs and Trade House demand all change the result. The reliable principle is simple: move to a higher Timemark only when it preserves a fast, repeatable loop.
For a currency-focused session, your result is the value of everything that sells, not merely the FE that appears directly on the ground. Valuable materials, Beacons, Compasses, Memories and desirable gear can all contribute. An item with a high theoretical value is not useful if buyers are absent, listing fees or effort are excessive, or it remains unsold.

The official game description presents the Trade House as a player economy: “Utilize the Trade house to be a part of a booming economy with an infinite amount of hero builds to trade.” Treat that as the game’s marketplace function, not as a promise of a fixed income.
Learn the Netherrealm loop before optimizing it
1. Use Beacons to open stages
Beacons are the keys that open Netherrealm stages. Your farming session begins by selecting the available stage and consuming the required Beacon. Keep enough map materials for several consecutive runs; repeatedly stopping to acquire another key makes a route look better on paper than it feels in practice.
2. Clear the stage and advance the Plane Watcher
Stage clears contribute to a Plane Watcher encounter. Defeating the Plane Watcher is a progression checkpoint: it advances your access to additional Netherrealm content and supplies Cinders.

3. Spend Cinders to unlock more content
Cinders are used to unlock further progression. During the progression phase, prioritize opening the next useful plane or Timemark over squeezing profit from every early map. Unlocking better content raises the ceiling for later farming and reduces the temptation to overvalue low-tier drops.
4. Repeat at the highest sustainable Timemark
Once progression options are available, run the highest difficulty that you can clear reliably at a good pace. “Highest” means the best sustainable tier for your character, not the highest number you can complete once with perfect play.

Choose a tier with a repeatable test
Run several maps at a candidate Timemark and record completion time, deaths, failed runs, map-material consumption and the saleable value of the drops. Compare that result with the next lower tier. The correct farming tier is the one that produces the strongest repeatable loop after all costs, not the tier with the largest individual chest.

When the lower tier is better
Drop down when the higher tier causes frequent deaths, requires defensive play that doubles clear time, consumes materials faster than you can replace them, or produces items that have little current demand. A lower tier with uninterrupted clears gives you more opportunities to hit valuable drops and keeps your inventory and marketplace routine manageable.

Move up after your current tier feels routine: you survive without emergency resets, kill dangerous packs without long pauses and can sustain the required Beacons and other materials. Test the new tier in a short block rather than committing your entire stockpile.
A practical farming workflow
- Set one objective. Decide whether the session is for progression, a particular material, gear upgrades or FE. A progression run and a sale-focused run should not use identical filters or risk tolerance.
- Prepare your inventory. Leave room for drops, carry enough stage-opening materials for a batch of runs and decide in advance which items will be vendored, dismantled or listed.
- Configure the loot filter. Show items that advance your objective and hide low-value clutter. Revisit the filter whenever your build, target or season changes.
- Run a fixed sample. Complete a meaningful block of maps at one Timemark before judging it. Include all downtime, not only combat time.
- Record failures and time. Note deaths, failed stages, unusually long bosses and any run that required a defensive detour. These are part of the route’s real cost.
- Sort immediately. Keep potential upgrades and marketable items; vendor, dismantle or hide the rest according to your plan. Delayed sorting creates inventory bottlenecks and slows the next map.
- Price before listing. Check current Trade House demand and comparable completed sales where the interface provides them. Do not assume that an old guide’s price remains valid.
- Review the result. Compare net sale value and completed runs with the next lower or higher Timemark, then adjust one variable at a time.
Configure the loot filter for the job
A filter is an efficiency tool, not merely a visual preference. Showing every item makes valuable drops harder to notice and adds pickup and sorting time. Hiding everything can make you miss a seasonal item, upgrade base or material that has become valuable.
Progression filter
- Keep equipment that can be a genuine upgrade for your current build.
- Show crafting or progression materials needed for the next unlock.
- Leave important Beacons and other map-opening items visible.
- Hide common low-level gear once it cannot improve the character.
Currency filter
- Keep Beacons, Compasses and Memories that have current demand.
- Show materials whose market value justifies pickup and listing time.
- Show high-potential gear bases or affixes that buyers actually seek.
- Hide items whose sale value is routinely below the time required to handle them.
XD’s SS14 update notes state that, when a filter is enabled, hidden items no longer delay other drops. That makes aggressive filtering less disruptive than it was under the older behavior. The note is a patch-specific mechanic, so check later official updates if the game changes the filter system again.

Recheck the filter after every seasonal update
SS13 and SS14 update notes demonstrate that loot mechanics and thresholds can change between seasons. A filter that was correct last season can hide a newly valuable item or display too much obsolete gear. Start from the current patch notes and your own Trade House observations rather than copying an old screenshot.

FE can come from direct drops, but a farming session’s usable currency often comes from selling several kinds of loot. The currency guide updated September 30, 2026, identifies in-game materials, Beacons, Compasses, Memories and useful gear as potential Auction House (the game’s Trade House) sales. Their prices and liquidity vary with the season and demand.

Do not treat an hourly estimate as a guarantee
A September 30, 2026 third-party guide estimates around 700 FE per hour for strong Timemark 7/8 farming with approximately one-minute clears. That is a guide estimate, not an official rate or promise. It depends on build speed, route, patch balance, drop luck, material costs, market prices and whether listed items actually sell. Use it only as a historical reference point; measure your own net result instead.
A simple net-value calculation
For a test block, add direct FE and the realistic sale value of items that sold, then subtract the value of Beacons, Compasses and other consumables used. Divide by the time spent on complete runs, sorting and selling. This is not a guaranteed market rate; it is a way to compare two routes under your own conditions.
Progression targets and build readiness
A September 30, 2026 progression guide lists level 90–95, at least 3,000 life and item-level-80-or-higher gear as comfortable Timemark 7 targets. Those figures are guide targets, not official entry requirements or universal build rules. A well-designed defensive setup may succeed earlier, while a glass-cannon setup may need more investment.

Use the targets as questions, not a checklist
- Can you survive normal packs and the Plane Watcher without repeated emergency retreats?
- Does your damage remain effective against the stage’s toughest encounters?
- Can you sustain your chosen Beacon and Compass supply?
- Is your clear time stable across several maps rather than dependent on a lucky layout?
- Can you identify and sell drops without spending more time in town than in the Netherrealm?
If the answer to several questions is no, improve the build or farm the previous Timemark. Pushing a nominal target because a guide lists it can produce less FE than a faster, safer tier.
Compare route options without assuming a permanent winner
When two routes are available, score both against the same axes. Do not compare one route’s combat time with another route’s full session time.

This is a personal decision framework, not a controlled comparison published by the developer. Your character, route familiarity and market timing can reverse the result.

Official SS13 and SS14 notes show why old farming advice ages quickly: drop behavior, thresholds and filtering mechanics can be revised between seasons. The official store listing also continues to display Afterlight promotional material, while an official search result announces a Tartarus preview for October 16, 2026. Because that preview is after the October 13, 2026 information date, precise Tartarus farming routes and thresholds should be treated as unverified until the preview, launch notes and live market are available.

One documented probability is not a general drop rate
SS14 lists a 0.03% chance for a specified Netherrealm medium talent to spawn an additional Beacon treasure chest under its stated monster-defeat condition. That is a talent-specific probability. It does not describe the overall Beacon drop rate, the chance of FE, or the expected value of every Netherrealm run.
Troubleshoot an inefficient farming session
“I clear the tier, but I earn less than expected.”
Check whether your valuable items are actually selling, whether you are counting unsold listings as income and whether map materials cost more than expected. Test a lower tier with faster clears and a narrower filter.
“My inventory fills before the run ends.”
Hide low-value bases, reduce duplicate material pickup and establish a keep, vendor, dismantle and list rule before entering the next map. Frequent town trips are part of the route’s time cost.

“The higher Timemark feels impossible.”
Stop pushing and identify the failure: damage against bosses, insufficient defenses, resistance gaps, movement mistakes or an unsuitable modifier. Farm the previous tier while upgrading, then retest with a short sample.
“I cannot sustain Beacons or Compasses.”
Reserve enough for progression first. Sell only the surplus, compare the material’s sale value with the value of the maps it would open and avoid a route that depends on buying scarce inputs at unfavorable prices.
“The filter hides something I need.”
Temporarily widen the filter for one test block, compare what appears with the current patch notes and then narrow it again. Recheck after every seasonal update rather than assuming an old filter remains correct.
