After looting Ruined Homestead, heal, check which exits are active on the live map, and choose a route based on your position and the cover available. Extraction starts a countdown and signals nearby Raiders and ARC, so prepare before you trigger it. No source establishes one exit as universally safest or closest from the landmark.
Find Ruined Homestead on the Blue Gate map
Ruined Homestead is in southern Blue Gate beside Olive Grove. It is a small landmark, so zoom in around Olive Grove if its label is hard to see. PC Gamer’s location and objective guide also identifies the landmark as the setting for the Sheltered Retreat photo objective.
Prepare before starting extraction
Starting extraction begins a countdown and sends a visible signal that can alert nearby Raiders and ARC. The approach and the wait can both be dangerous. Before you activate an exit:
- Heal and check your remaining supplies.
- Check the live map for active exits and consider whether another route fits your position better.
- Clear nearby ARC when practical, rather than beginning the countdown while threats are close.
- Consider a Firecracker to cover a likely approach and keep a Smoke Grenade available for emergency concealment. These are tactical suggestions, not guarantees against other players.
- If your bag already contains valuable loot, weigh that against crossing open ground or detouring for optional items.
Embark describes the underlying tradeoff as choosing whether to pursue more rewards despite having “fewer and riskier ways out,” or to escape with lighter bags. Embark’s risk-and-reward article frames this as a player decision, not a route with a guaranteed safe outcome.

Choose an exit using the current raid map
A Blue Gate guide lists eight extraction markers, but static guides do not fully agree on marker names and availability can depend on the current raid. Treat the in-game map and raid conditions as authoritative for your run, rather than assuming every marker in a guide is available.

The marker list comes from a Blue Gate map guide. A broader extraction guide uses some different names, reinforcing why the live map should take precedence. Check the extraction guide alongside the current raid map if you need general context. Embark publishes the map-condition schedule; conditions rotate, so check the current rules before building a plan around a particular exit.

Consider a Raider Hatch only if you can use it
A Raider Hatch may provide an alternative to a standard extraction route, but current guides say hatches generally require a Raider Hatch Key. Special map conditions may change hatch availability. Check the current raid rules and your key inventory before diverting to one; do not assume a hatch is usable merely because a guide shows its marker. Use your position, not a claimed “best” exit
The available sources do not establish distances, sight lines, player traffic, or ARC threats from Ruined Homestead to each exit. That means there is no evidence-based universal answer to which one is closest or safest. In the raid, compare the active options by route length from where you are, cover along the approach, threats you can observe, and whether you have the key for a hatch. Avoid unnecessary open ground and reconsider optional loot if it would add exposure.

A Blue Gate Cellar Key door is described southwest of Ruined Homestead. That may matter if you are planning a cellar loot route, but it is not evidence that an exit on that side is safer. The Blue Gate key guide gives that location context.

Ruined Homestead is also used for the Sheltered Retreat objective, which asks you to photograph a farmland house. PC Gamer’s current guide says photo objectives require an uncommon in-game camera. It describes purchasing one from Shani for 1.9k in-game currency, crafting one at a basic workbench with 8 Plastic Parts and 1 Wire, or obtaining one through a quest.
