To exit Safe Mode on a Samsung Galaxy A57, restart the phone. Open the power menu, tap Restart, and let the device complete the reboot. When startup finishes, the Safe Mode label should be gone and your downloaded apps should be available again. Restarting is the normal Samsung-supported fix; it does not require a factory reset, accessory, repair tool, or paid service.

What Safe Mode means on the Galaxy A57

Safe Mode is a diagnostic startup state. The Galaxy A57 loads essential system software while disabling most downloaded or third-party applications. This gives you a controlled way to check whether an installed app is contributing to crashes, freezes, overheating, battery drain, or another problem.

The result of the test is useful, but it is not a complete diagnosis by itself:

  • If the phone behaves normally in Safe Mode, a downloaded app is a likely cause.
  • If the same problem remains in Safe Mode, the cause may be elsewhere, such as the operating system, a setting, or hardware.
  • Safe Mode does not delete your apps, photos, messages, or other personal data. It temporarily prevents most downloaded apps from running.

The model covered here is Samsung’s Galaxy A57 5G (SM-A5760). Samsung provides an Android 16 user manual for this model. Exact labels and screen availability can vary by software version, carrier, region, and model configuration, so a recent update may use slightly different wording.

The three Samsung-supported ways to leave Safe Mode

Each method ends with a complete restart. Choose the one that matches the state of your screen and buttons.

Method Action Use it when Screen requirement Data effect
Power-menu restart Open Quick Settings, tap the Power icon, then tap Restart. The touchscreen and power menu respond normally. Screen responds. Restarts the phone without erasing data.
Notification-panel shortcut Swipe down to notifications, tap Safe Mode is on, then tap Turn Off. You can open the notification panel and want the dedicated Safe Mode control. Screen responds. Restarts the phone without erasing data.
Button restart Hold Volume Down + Power for at least five seconds. The power menu is unresponsive or you cannot use the on-screen controls. Works when on-screen controls are difficult to use. Restarts the phone without erasing data.

The button combination is a restart command, not a factory-reset command. Do not hold other button combinations unless Samsung specifically instructs you to do so for a separate recovery procedure.

Method 1: Restart from the power menu

  1. Swipe down from the top of the display to open Quick Settings.
  2. Tap the Power icon.
  3. Tap Restart.
  4. Allow the Galaxy A57 to shut down and start again. Do not interrupt the reboot.
  5. After the lock screen appears, check that the Safe Mode label is no longer visible.
  6. Open the app screen and confirm that your downloaded apps are available again.

A restart must finish completely. Locking and unlocking the screen, closing the notification shade, or returning to the home screen does not leave Safe Mode because none of those actions reboots Android.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Method 2: Use “Safe Mode is on” in notifications

Samsung Australia lists a dedicated notification-panel route. It is useful when the phone is responding but you prefer not to navigate through the full power menu.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification panel.
  2. Tap the notification labeled Safe Mode is on.
  3. Tap Turn Off.
  4. Wait for the Galaxy A57 to restart.
  5. When startup completes, check for the disappearance of the Safe Mode label and the return of your downloaded apps.

If you do not see this notification, use the power-menu method instead. Notification wording or availability can differ after an update or between regional software versions.

Method 3: Restart with Volume Down and Power

Use the physical buttons if the power menu does not open, the touchscreen is not responding reliably, or the notification-panel option is unavailable.

  1. Press and hold Volume Down and Power together.
  2. Keep holding both buttons for at least five seconds.
  3. Release them when the phone begins the restart.
  4. Wait for the lock screen, then verify that Safe Mode is gone.

Do not press Volume Down while the phone is starting after the restart. Samsung explains that holding Volume Down during boot can trigger Safe Mode, so releasing the button before startup continues is important.

How to confirm that normal startup has returned

Use these checks after the reboot:

  • The words Safe Mode are no longer shown on the display.
  • Downloaded apps appear in the app screen and can be opened.
  • The phone behaves as it did before Safe Mode, rather than showing the restricted diagnostic state.

If the label is gone but one app still crashes, that is an app-specific problem rather than evidence that Safe Mode is still active. If the label remains, perform another complete restart and pay attention to whether a physical button is being pressed during boot.

Why the A57 may keep starting in Safe Mode

A case or accessory is pressing Volume Down

Samsung identifies a held Volume Down button as a way Safe Mode can be triggered during startup. A tight protective case, a misaligned cover, or another accessory can press the button without making the pressure obvious.

  1. Turn the phone off or restart it using one of the methods above.
  2. Remove the protective case and any accessory that could touch the side buttons.
  3. Check that Volume Down moves freely and is not visibly stuck.
  4. Start the phone again without touching Volume Down.

If the phone starts normally with the case removed, refit the case carefully or replace it with one that does not contact the button. If the button remains stuck without a case, the issue is not solved by repeatedly restarting; arrange appropriate device support.

A downloaded app is causing the original symptoms

Safe Mode is designed to test this possibility. If the A57 works correctly while most downloaded apps are disabled, Google recommends removing recently downloaded or suspicious apps one at a time and restarting after each removal.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Make a short list of apps installed or updated shortly before the problem began.
  2. Uninstall one likely app using the phone’s normal app-removal control.
  3. Restart the phone completely.
  4. Use the phone long enough to check whether the original symptom returns.
  5. If the symptom remains, remove the next likely app and repeat the restart-and-check cycle.

Removing several apps at once makes the result harder to interpret. One-at-a-time testing identifies the change associated with the symptom and lets you keep unrelated apps installed.

What to do if the problem remains in Safe Mode

When the same symptom occurs in Safe Mode, a downloaded app is less likely to be the immediate cause because most downloaded apps are disabled there. Record exactly what still happens, including whether the issue appears before or after unlocking, and whether it survives more than one restart. Safe Mode is a diagnostic comparison, not a guarantee that every possible software or hardware fault will disappear.

Do not factory-reset the phone solely to remove the Safe Mode label. Samsung’s and Google’s cited procedures use a restart. A factory reset is a separate escalation that can erase personal data and is not required for the normal Safe Mode exit.

Choosing the right method when something is not working

The touchscreen works and the power menu opens

Use the standard Quick Settings path: Power icon, then Restart. This is the clearest method because it shows the command before the reboot begins.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The touchscreen works but you see the Safe Mode notification

Open the notification panel and select Safe Mode is on, then Turn Off. The phone still has to restart; the notification is an alternate route to that restart.

The power menu is frozen or does not appear

Hold Volume Down + Power for at least five seconds. After the phone starts, keep your fingers away from Volume Down during boot so the key is not interpreted as a request for Safe Mode.

The phone returns to Safe Mode after every restart

Remove the case or accessory first and check the Volume Down button. If the phone then starts normally, the button was being pressed during boot. If it still enters Safe Mode, use the Safe Mode test to examine recently downloaded apps one at a time, restarting after each removal. If the phone also has the same symptoms in Safe Mode, the cause may not be a downloaded app.

What is—and is not—changed by exiting Safe Mode

Leaving Safe Mode restores the ordinary startup environment. Downloaded apps become available again, but exiting does not identify or remove an app that caused a problem. If an app is responsible, the symptom can return as soon as normal startup loads that app. That is why the restart should be followed by observation, and by one-at-a-time app removal if the phone had been stable in Safe Mode.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The three exit methods do not require a purchase, replacement phone, repair tool, or paid service. They are restart procedures. A replacement Galaxy A57 or other device is therefore not part of the Safe Mode exit itself.

Software-version and regional differences

The handset identified by Samsung is the Galaxy A57 5G, model SM-A5760, with an Android 16 user manual available from Samsung. Samsung also notes that menu names and screen availability can vary by model, carrier, region, and software version. After an update, the Power icon may be positioned differently in Quick Settings, or the notification may use slightly different wording.

When labels differ, look for the same functions rather than an identical screen: a system power control with Restart, a notification indicating that Safe Mode is active, or the physical-button restart using Volume Down and Power. The objective is a complete reboot without selecting a reset or erase command.

A concise recovery sequence

  1. Try the normal restart: Quick Settings, Power, Restart.
  2. If that is unavailable, use the notification path: Safe Mode is on, Turn Off.
  3. If on-screen controls do not respond, hold Volume Down + Power for at least five seconds.
  4. After reboot, confirm that the Safe Mode label is gone and downloaded apps are visible.
  5. If Safe Mode returns, remove the case or accessory and ensure Volume Down is not pressed during startup.
  6. If the phone is stable in Safe Mode, remove recently downloaded or suspicious apps individually, restarting after each removal.
  7. If the problem continues in Safe Mode, do not assume an app is responsible, and do not factory-reset solely to exit Safe Mode.

Frequently avoided mistakes

  • Using a normal screen lock as if it were a restart: locking the display does not change startup mode.
  • Holding Volume Down while the phone boots: Samsung identifies this as a way to trigger Safe Mode.
  • Removing many apps together: this prevents a clear one-at-a-time diagnosis.
  • Factory-resetting immediately: the supported exit is a restart, while a factory reset can erase personal data.
  • Assuming the phone is fixed because the label disappeared: test the original symptom and investigate the app or button cause if it returns.
