To evolve Bramblin into Brambleghast in Pokémon GO, you currently need 50 Bramblin Candy and must walk 20 km with that Bramblin as your Buddy. When both requirements are complete, open the same Bramblin’s summary and tap Evolve.
The 20 km is an evolution task, not the distance used to earn a Buddy Candy. Bramblin’s listed Candy distance is 5 km, while its listed evolution task is 20 km. The exact requirements come from Pokémon GO Hub’s current game data; Niantic’s Help Center confirms that species-specific tasks appear on a Pokémon’s details page and that the Candy requirement is shown in the summary. Check the live in-game screen before evolving because Pokémon GO requirements can change.

These are two separate counters. Walking 20 km satisfies the evolution task; it does not mean that one Buddy Candy is awarded only after 20 km. The 5 km figure describes Bramblin’s separate Candy-earning distance, while 20 km is the listed distance for unlocking evolution.

Bramblin’s Pokémon GO debut is tied to the official Fall Marathon: Buddy Trek event announced for October 13–19, 2026. The event schedule uses local time. During that window, the announcement lists GO Pass tasks and Incense as possible ways to encounter Bramblin, and event Field Research can also provide Bramblin encounters.

Those encounter routes are event features, not a permanent guarantee. If you are reading this after October 19, 2026, do not assume that the same GO Pass, Incense, or Field Research opportunities are still active. Open the current in-game event information and encounter sources to see whether Bramblin is available in your location. The official announcement describes the event as Bramblin’s first appearance in Pokémon GO, using the wording: “Por primera vez en Pokémon GO, os podréis encontrar a Bramblin.”
How to evolve Bramblin: exact in-game procedure
1. Choose the Bramblin you intend to evolve
Open your Pokémon storage and select the Bramblin you want to keep. This matters because the walking requirement is attached to the individual Bramblin you set as your Buddy. If you have several Bramblin, decide which one you want to evolve before beginning the 20 km task so that your progress is associated with the correct Pokémon.
2. Set Bramblin as your Buddy
From Bramblin’s Pokémon page, use the Buddy option and confirm that this Bramblin is the active Buddy. The evolution listing specifically requires walking 20 km with Bramblin as your Buddy. If a different Pokémon is active, distance recorded for that other Buddy is not the Bramblin evolution task described here.
3. Accumulate 20 km of Buddy-walking progress
Walk with Bramblin active as your Buddy until the evolution task reaches 20 km. Use the Buddy progress shown in Pokémon GO rather than estimating from a fitness app or from general travel distance. The relevant figure is the distance Pokémon GO attributes to that Bramblin while it is your Buddy.
4. Confirm that you have 50 Bramblin Candy
Check your Candy total before attempting the evolution. The current listed cost is 50 Bramblin Candy. Candy earned from Bramblin encounters and other in-game sources contributes to this total, but the evolution cannot be completed until the summary shows enough Candy.

5. Open Bramblin’s summary and check the Evolve area
Return to the same Bramblin’s Pokémon summary. Niantic’s Help Center says that the Candy requirement is displayed in the summary and that species-specific evolution tasks can be checked on the Pokémon’s details page. Look for the completed 20 km task and the Candy requirement together. When both are satisfied, the Evolve button should be available.
6. Tap Evolve
Tap Evolve and confirm the in-game prompt. The selected Bramblin becomes Brambleghast, and the required Bramblin Candy is spent. If the button is unavailable, return to the requirement checks rather than trying to use an item or trade shortcut.

Understanding the two distance numbers
The 20 km evolution task
The 20 km figure is the special condition listed for evolving Bramblin. It measures Buddy walking for the Bramblin you plan to evolve. Until that task is complete, having enough Candy alone does not unlock the evolution.
The 5 km Candy distance
Bramblin’s separate Pokédex data lists a 5 km Candy distance. That number belongs to the normal Buddy Candy mechanic. It should not be substituted for the evolution requirement: walking 5 km may relate to Candy earning, but the listed evolution task remains 20 km with Bramblin as your Buddy.
Why the distinction matters
Players can reasonably see both numbers in Pokémon GO and assume they describe the same action. They do not. One is the distance associated with earning Buddy Candy; the other is the cumulative distance required to unlock Bramblin’s evolution. Track the evolution progress on the Pokémon’s own details page so you are checking the correct counter.

How to check progress before you finish walking
Use a repeatable check rather than relying on memory:
- Open your profile and confirm that the intended Bramblin is the active Buddy.
- Open that Bramblin’s Pokémon details page.
- Read the evolution task or progress indicator shown for the Pokémon.
- Check the Candy total in the same summary.
- Continue walking until the task reaches 20 km and the Candy total reaches 50.
The exact placement of labels can vary as Pokémon GO’s interface changes, but Niantic’s general guidance is consistent: the Pokémon details page is where required species-specific tasks are surfaced, and the summary shows the Candy requirement. If your screen does not show an available evolution, use those two locations as the first places to verify the status.
What to do if Evolve is still unavailable
The task is below 20 km
If the distance shown for the selected Bramblin is less than 20 km, the evolution task is incomplete. Keep Bramblin as your active Buddy and continue building the in-game Buddy-walking total. Do not use the 5 km Candy distance as a substitute for the 20 km requirement.
You have less than 50 Bramblin Candy
If the Candy total is below 50, the evolution cost has not been met. The summary should show the amount required. Continue obtaining Bramblin Candy through the normal in-game sources available to your account, then check the same summary again.
You walked with the wrong Buddy
Walking distance is tied to the Buddy you selected. If another Pokémon was active during part of the walk, select the intended Bramblin and inspect its own progress. The game’s details page, not a general distance total, is the relevant record for this evolution.

The screen and the listed requirement disagree
Pokémon GO can change requirements or interface labels. Treat the live Pokémon summary as the final check for your account. If the in-game task, Candy amount, or Evolve button differs from the current listed figures, follow the requirement displayed for that Bramblin and avoid assuming that an older guide still applies.
Bramblin is not appearing as an encounter
The documented debut routes were connected to Fall Marathon: Buddy Trek, running October 13–19, 2026, in local time. Check whether the event is active in your region and whether the advertised GO Pass, Incense, or Field Research route is still available. After the event window, those specific routes should not be treated as permanent encounter methods.
Are there alternative evolution methods?
The reviewed current listings establish the 50-Candy cost and 20 km Buddy task. They do not establish a trade shortcut, evolution item, or second Bramblin-specific method. Therefore, plan on completing the Buddy task and paying the Candy cost unless the live game presents a different requirement.
This is also why trading a Bramblin or spending an evolution item should not be treated as a workaround. Niantic’s general help explains how to read species-specific tasks from the Pokémon’s details page, while the current Bramblin listing identifies the Buddy distance and Candy requirement. If Pokémon GO later displays another method, verify it directly on the affected Bramblin’s summary before acting.

Pick the Pokémon before investing distance
Because the 20 km task is attached to the selected Bramblin, choose the individual you want to evolve first. This avoids putting distance on one Bramblin and later deciding that another one should receive the evolution.

Separate your walking goal from your Candy goal
Use two independent checkpoints: a 20 km evolution-task target and a 50-Candy inventory target. Reaching one does not automatically satisfy the other. The 5 km Buddy Candy distance is a third figure with a different purpose, so do not combine the numbers into a single calculation.
Check the app before the final tap
Immediately before evolving, open the selected Bramblin’s summary and verify all three practical conditions: the task shows 20 km completed, the Candy total is at least 50, and the Evolve button is available. This protects you from relying on an outdated article, a different Bramblin’s progress, or a remembered Candy count.
Availability and date qualifications
The event information and evolution figures described here are time-sensitive. The Fall Marathon: Buddy Trek announcement specifies October 13–19, 2026, with times expressed locally. The 50-Candy and 20 km values are the current listed Bramblin data reported by Pokémon GO Hub, accessed in 2026; Niantic’s Help Center supports the general way Pokémon GO displays Candy costs and species-specific tasks but does not provide Bramblin’s exact figures on the cited general page.

That distinction matters if you return to this guide after a game update. Treat the live in-game summary as authoritative for the Bramblin you own. If the requirement changes, the details page and Evolve area should show the condition Pokémon GO currently expects.
