The available product information does not verify a new, trail-worthy full-suspension mountain bike for $279. Treat that number as an unconfirmed listing price until you know exactly what is being sold, where, and in what condition. It could refer to a used bike, a frame, a different product, or a model name—but none of those explanations is established by the price alone.
What does “$279 full-suspension mountain bike” actually mean?
Start with the specific listing, not the headline or search-result snippet. Confirm whether $279 is the price of a complete bicycle or only a frame, whether it is new or used, and whether shipping and tax are included. Check the seller and the country or region: prices and product availability can differ by market.
The word “279” may also be part of a model name rather than a price. BikeRadar’s 2023 review of the Intense Tracer 279 Expert describes a long-travel enduro bike with 170 mm of front and rear travel and a tested weight of 16.76 kg without pedals; it is not evidence of a $279 bike. Pinkbike’s 2023 review of the Orange 279 reports a $3,850 USD asking price for the frame and shock, not a complete bike for $279. BikeRadar’s Tracer 279 review and Pinkbike’s Orange 279 review illustrate why the number needs context.

No. A manufacturer’s description of a bike as full suspension tells you that it has front and rear suspension; it does not, by itself, establish that the bike is suitable for demanding or technical mountain-bike trails.

What the Mongoose Limestone listing establishes
Mongoose’s product page describes the Limestone as a 26-inch full-suspension bike with 2.35-inch tires, intended for pavement, gravel, and dirt. The page information available here does not state a price or establish suitability for technical trails. It therefore cannot verify a $279 deal or serve as proof that any similarly priced listing is trail-ready. Check the Mongoose Limestone specifications and intended use against the exact bike being offered.
What higher-priced examples tell you—and what they do not
Manufacturer listings show how far some full-suspension products are from this price claim, but they are not alternatives at a $279 budget. Foes lists the Mutz frame at $2,799 and specifies 6.0 inches of rear travel. Jamis lists the Faultline MPX A2 at $2,799.95 and gives the Faultline 125 mm of travel. These are figures from the manufacturers’ pages, which may change; the Foes figure is for a frame, and the cited Jamis listing is the Faultline MPX A2 listing. Foes’ Mutz listing and Jamis’ Faultline page make clear that neither figure substantiates a complete $279 bike.

How to assess the actual listing
Once you have the exact model and seller, compare the bike against the rider’s intended use. Do not assume that a low price or a suspension label answers these questions.
- Price and condition: Confirm the total delivered cost, whether the bike is new or used, and whether the amount covers a complete bicycle or only a frame.
- Intended terrain: Read the manufacturer’s stated use and compare it with the surfaces and trails the rider plans to use.
- Specifications: Verify the frame and suspension details, along with the brakes and drivetrain, on the manufacturer’s page for that exact model.
- Fit: Confirm the size is available and appropriate for the rider; a low price is not useful if the bike does not fit.
- Setup and support: Find out what assembly or service is needed and what support or warranty the seller provides.
These checks can help you judge a real listing, but without that listing they cannot establish that a particular $279 bike is safe, suitable, or a good buy.

What if $279 is a firm budget?
Consider whether a hardtail—a mountain bike with front suspension but no rear suspension—fits the rider’s needs. It will not behave like a full-suspension bike, but it may be a more realistic category to explore when affordability is the priority. Specialized describes the Fuse 27.5 as an option for riders seeking more affordability than full suspension; the cited page does not establish its current price, so check local availability and cost rather than treating it as a $279 recommendation. See Specialized’s Fuse 27.5 information.
