Open the mode’s character-select or loadout screen, highlight the fighter, and cycle through that character’s owned appearance options. Community guidance reports left/right for color variants and down for alternate costumes, but the exact prompt is not documented in the official material and can vary by platform or remapped controls. Select the unlocked option, confirm, and start the match. A locked item must first be earned through Character or Player progression, a specified mode, a seasonal challenge, or the relevant Deluxe/platform add-on.

Change a skin during character selection

Invincible VS treats appearance items as character-specific cosmetics. A recolor changes the fighter’s palette, while an alternate costume uses a different outfit or model presentation. Both are selected before the match rather than from a universal settings screen.

  1. Enter the correct pre-match screen. From the main menu, choose the mode you want to play and proceed to its character-selection or loadout screen. Arcade, Story, Ranked, and other modes can present their own selection flow.
  2. Highlight the fighter. Move the cursor to the character whose appearance you want to change. The cosmetic list applies to the highlighted fighter, so changing the selection can also change which variants are shown.
  3. Cycle color variants. Community instructions commonly use the left and right controls to move through that character’s recolors. Watch the preview and name or icon so you know which owned variant is selected.
  4. Open alternate costumes. Community guidance commonly uses the down control to move from the default/recolor row to alternate costumes. The current build, platform and any custom button mapping can change the prompt; use the on-screen legend when it differs.
  5. Confirm the owned option. Select the costume or color that is available to you. Locked entries normally show a requirement rather than allowing confirmation.
  6. Start the match. The selected appearance should carry into the fight. If the fighter returns in the default look, leave character select and re-enter it, then verify that the variant is actually marked as owned.

The publisher has not published one complete, universal skin-switch button map. Therefore, treat the left/right/down sequence as practical community guidance, not a guaranteed keyboard or controller command for every platform. If you remapped controls, the same actions may be assigned to different buttons.

What to do when a skin is locked

A locked entry is not an equip failure; it means the account has not met that item’s requirement or the required content is not installed. Check the item’s text in Character Mastery or Collection before trying random modes.

Invincible VS - PlayStation 5
  • Invincible VS is a brutal superhero 3v3 tag fighting game set in the Invincible universe, where you can battle to the death as a team of fan-favorite characters in iconic locations.
  • Unleash bone-breaking combos through fast combat and smart defensive tactics to leave a trail of blood and destruction.
  • Invincible VS features a variety of game modes including a captivating cinematic story mode with an original narrative from a writer of the animated series.
  • This physical edition includes a set of 4 Keepsake trading cards, featuring selected playable fighters from the game’s 3v3 roster.
  • You’ll also get a printed controller layout card to help you jump into Invincible VS and quickly get a feel for its fast, combo-heavy combat.
  • Character progression: Play matches with the relevant fighter to raise that character’s level and claim Character Mastery rewards.
  • Player progression: Continue playing to increase Player Level, which can grant account-wide cosmetic categories such as badges, titles, backgrounds, art, music, arenas and frames.
  • Mode completion: Complete the mode named by the item. Arcade Ladders, Story Mode and Ranked Mode are specifically identified as cosmetic-awarding activities; Story Mode includes alternate costumes.
  • Seasonal or event condition: Some rewards require a particular number of matches, a named ladder or a difficulty setting during a stated season.
  • Paid or Deluxe entitlement: Install the associated platform add-on or purchase the separate costume when the item is sold rather than earned.

Skybound’s support guidance describes two primary cosmetic routes: leveling Character or Player levels and completing specific modes. Playing matches supplies experience for leveling, while the mode-based route uses activities such as Arcade Ladders, Story Mode and Ranked Mode.

Find earned cosmetics in Character Mastery and Collection

Character Mastery rewards

Character Mastery is the most direct place to check fighter-specific unlocks. The official progression information states that each mastery track contains 20 rewards and 3 Prestige Rewards, including “Skins & Color Variants.” The exact item appears on the fighter’s track, so inspect the character you intend to use rather than assuming a reward is shared by the whole roster.

Advance mastery by playing matches with that character, then claim or verify the reward if the interface presents a claim step. Return to character select afterward; a newly earned item may not appear in the selection carousel until the screen is refreshed.

Player Level rewards

Player Level is separate from an individual fighter’s mastery. Its possible rewards include badges, titles, backgrounds, art, music, arenas and frames. These are account-level presentation or content items and should not be confused with a costume that changes a specific character’s model.

Collection view

Use Extras > Collection to inspect earned items. Collection is useful when you know you unlocked something but cannot find it in character select: first confirm that the reward is present there, then return to the relevant fighter’s appearance options. If it is visible in Collection but not selectable, restart the game or revisit character selection to refresh the entitlement.

Examples of named earnable skins

Season rewards are time-sensitive. The following examples come from the June 30, 2026 Season One patch notes and describe requirements available during Season One or, where stated, later seasons.

Deluxe Edition skins: download the add-on

Buying or owning the Deluxe Edition does not always install every bonus automatically. Skybound’s support instruction is to download the Deluxe Edition add-ons associated with the edition from your platform store.

The Deluxe bonus skins identified by Skybound are:

  • Conquest — Breakout
  • Allen the Alien — C.O.P.

Platform-install checklist

  1. Open the store or game-management page for the platform account that owns the Deluxe Edition.
  2. Find the Invincible VS Deluxe add-on entries and select each included add-on for download. Do not rely only on the base-game installation status.
  3. Wait for the add-on installation to complete, then fully close and relaunch the game.
  4. Open character select, highlight the relevant fighter, and check the alternate-costume section.
  5. If the item is still absent, confirm that the store account and game account are the same, check that the add-on is installed for the correct edition, and contact Skybound support if the entitlement remains missing.

A console can show ownership while the game has not yet refreshed its license. A restart or a fresh visit to character selection commonly forces that refresh; it does not unlock an item that was never included with the edition or purchased separately.

  • Prepare for lots of finger pointing accusations as players try to eliminate the Sequids!
  • With rounds lasting 20-45 minutes, Invincible: Escape From Mars keeps the action intense and the suspense high. Achieve 3 victories as astronauts or Sequids before round seven, or launch the rocket in a nail-biting finish!
  • Great For Fun Family Game Night: Great for fans of Invincible and hidden role games! Use your negotiation skills to navigate the challenges, get on the rocket, and Escape From Mars.

Paid costume add-ons and how they differ from progression skins

The PlayStation listing documents a range of paid costume add-ons, including Undercover and Overdressed, Double Dimensions, Battle Beast, Rex Splode — Towel, Bots & Monsters, Honest Abe, Diamond, Streetwear and GDA Prisoner, among other character skins. The listing is a catalog of add-on availability, not a promise that every item is offered in every country or at the same price.

Cosmetic route How you obtain it Character scope Appearance type Time or platform caveat
Character Mastery Play matches and progress the named fighter’s mastery track Normally character-specific Skins or color variants Reward track can be adjusted by updates
Player Level Earn account experience by playing Account-level categories; check the item description for scope Mostly badges, titles, backgrounds, art, music, arenas and frames Not every Player Level reward is a costume
Story, Arcade or Ranked Complete the specified mode or challenge Usually named by the reward Can include alternate costumes or skins Some requirements are season-specific
Deluxe bonus Own Deluxe Edition and install its platform add-on Named bonus character Distinct alternate costume Requires the correct edition entitlement and add-on
Paid add-on Buy the individual costume through the platform store Named character Distinct costume or themed variant Availability and price vary by region and can change

A color variant is not automatically the same thing as an alternate costume. If the selection screen separates recolors from costumes, use the appropriate row and do not expect a costume purchase to unlock every color for that character.

Season Two changes and current-build cautions

Season Two patch notes were published on October 13, 2026. They announce new premium and earnable cosmetics and record a Character Select fix affecting Titan’s Stone Skin Armor. If you are following an older guide and the menu behaves differently, update the game before troubleshooting; a selection-screen bug may have been corrected in the current build.

  • CO-OP ON THE COURTS: Shoot hoops with family and friends and amp up the challenge with up to 4 players.
  • PRACTICE YOUR MOVES: Choose your game mode and work on your lay-ups in Training, compete in a Full Season or Party playing Ball Pop and more.
  • MASCOT MAYHEM: Jump into the shenanigans with your favorite team mascot in Party Mode.
  • BUILD YOUR PERFECT LINEUP: Choose an Eastern or Western Conference team and design your players from the hair to the sneakers and funky trails.

Season rewards, storefront inventory and prices are volatile. A reward that was available under a Season One condition may move to another route, become unavailable for new claims, or display a different requirement after a later update. The in-game description is the controlling reference for your current account.

Troubleshoot a missing or unequippable skin

The option is visible but still locked

  • Read the full requirement rather than only the item name.
  • Check whether the condition specifies Ranked, Story, Arcade or an Invincible Ladder.
  • Check the season named by the requirement; a current season may not accept an older challenge.
  • Verify that you are viewing the correct character’s mastery track.

The reward says it was earned, but character select does not show it

  • Open Extras > Collection and confirm the item is recorded.
  • Back out of character select and enter it again so the roster data reloads.
  • Restart the game after a mastery claim, season reward, or add-on installation.
  • Check whether the item is an account cosmetic rather than a fighter costume; badges, titles, frames and backgrounds do not appear in the costume carousel.

A Deluxe skin is missing

  • Download the Deluxe add-on from the platform store; ownership of the base game alone is insufficient.
  • Confirm the add-on is installed on the same platform account that owns the Deluxe Edition.
  • Restart the game and revisit the named character’s alternate-costume section.
  • Contact Skybound support if the add-on is installed but the entitlement remains absent.

The button shown by a guide does not work

Do not assume the left/right/down sequence is universal. Check the current on-screen control legend, account for a remapped layout, and make sure the cursor is on the character rather than another selection panel. The official sources do not publish a complete cross-platform button map.

The skin changed back after switching modes

Re-enter the mode’s character-select or loadout screen and select the variant again. Some mode flows can maintain their own pre-match selection state, so verify the preview immediately before confirming the match.

A reliable workflow for collecting and equipping cosmetics

  1. Choose one fighter and note whether the target is labeled a color variant or alternate costume.
  2. Open that fighter’s Character Mastery and record the exact level or reward milestone.
  3. If no mastery requirement exists, inspect the item text for Player Level, Story, Arcade, Ranked or ladder conditions.
  4. Complete the named activity, then check Extras > Collection to verify the unlock.
  5. For Deluxe or paid content, verify the store entitlement and installed add-on instead of replaying matches.
  6. Return to the mode’s character select, highlight the fighter, use the displayed controls to reach the correct appearance row, and confirm the preview.
  7. Start the match only after the desired skin is visibly selected.

This workflow separates an actual progression requirement from an installation or menu-refresh problem, which prevents unnecessary grinding for content that is already owned.

What is and is not established about skin availability

The documented systems establish the main unlock routes and several named rewards, but they do not establish a universal skin drop rate, an average completion time, or a permanent catalog of every cosmetic. No independent ownership statistic or completion benchmark is available to use as a promise. Treat any community estimate of drop chances or grind length as anecdotal unless the game itself displays a requirement.

The Standard physical edition is listed as including a physical disc, but edition format alone does not identify Deluxe bonuses or install their add-ons. Check the edition and platform entitlement attached to your account before expecting a bonus costume.
