You can force HTTPS for one WordPress page without converting the entire site, provided the domain has a valid TLS certificate and you create one path-specific redirect. Put that redirect at the origin server, reverse proxy/CDN, or (less efficiently) a WordPress plugin; then remove mixed-content URLs and test every form, script, image, font, iframe, and AJAX request used by the page.
What “SSL on one page” actually does
SSL is the older name commonly used for modern TLS encryption. A browser connects to https://example.com/page, verifies a certificate for the domain, and encrypts traffic between the browser and the TLS endpoint. WordPress is compatible with HTTPS when a TLS/SSL certificate is installed and available to the web server.

Making only one page secure normally means redirecting that page’s HTTP URL to its HTTPS equivalent. For example, a request for http://example.com/checkout/ receives a redirect to https://example.com/checkout/, while other URLs continue to use their existing scheme. The page itself, and every resource it loads, must work over HTTPS.
This is selective transport encryption, not a security boundary around the whole WordPress installation. A visitor can still reach other pages over HTTP, and an HTTP login, account, or checkout form remains exposed until its own URL and submission endpoint are secured. If every page and administrative request should be encrypted, site-wide HTTPS is the safer long-term design.

Requirements before you redirect anything
- A certificate covering the hostname. The certificate must be active at the system that terminates TLS. That may be the web server, a load balancer, or a CDN edge. Cloudflare requires an active edge certificate before it can enforce HTTPS for visitors.
- Control of one redirect layer. You need access to the origin configuration, reverse proxy/CDN rules, or a WordPress plugin that can redirect a specific page. Use one layer for this redirect, not several.
- A known canonical URL. Decide whether the page is
/checkoutor/checkout/, and whetherwwwor the apex domain is canonical. A mismatch can create an extra redirect. - A backup and a rollback path. Save the current
.htaccess, Nginx, proxy, or plugin settings. A 301 redirect can be cached by browsers and CDNs, so use a temporary redirect while testing if you are uncertain. - Access to the page’s dependencies. You may need to edit image URLs, scripts, stylesheets, fonts, iframes, API endpoints, or embedded payment content that still use
http://.
Choose the right control layer

Use the earliest layer you control. A server or edge redirect avoids loading WordPress for an HTTP request. A plugin is still useful when hosting access is limited, but do not configure a plugin and a server rule for the same path unless you have verified that they will not redirect each other.
Method 1: Redirect one page in Apache
Apache commonly uses .htaccess for per-directory rules. Replace the example hostname and slug with your own values. Put the rule in the HTTP-facing site configuration, before WordPress’s standard block that begins with RewriteEngine On and hands requests to index.php.

The pattern accepts both /checkout and /checkout/; the target chooses one canonical form. Apache preserves the query string by default, so a URL such as ?order=123 remains attached unless another rule changes it.
Test with a temporary redirect first
R=302 is intentionally temporary. It lets you correct a path or target without being trapped by a browser’s cached 301. Once the exact page, forms, and resources work, change it to R=301 and reload Apache if your host requires a configuration reload.

curl -I https://example.com/checkoutThe HTTPS response should be the page response, not another redirect back to HTTP. If WordPress adds a trailing-slash redirect, decide whether that is acceptable; ideally the HTTP request reaches the final HTTPS URL in one intentional redirect.

- Nothing redirects: the rule may be in a directory that is not traversed, the host may be using Nginx instead, or another virtual host may receive the request.
- Every URL redirects: a broader rule above the page-specific rule, a hosting control-panel setting, or a plugin may already force site-wide HTTPS.
- An endless loop appears: a proxy may terminate HTTPS and send HTTP to Apache without forwarding the original scheme. Configure trusted proxy headers as described below, or place the redirect at the proxy.
- The page redirects twice: remove duplicate rules or align the slash and hostname used by the target with WordPress’s canonical URL.
Method 2: Redirect the path at Nginx
If Nginx handles the HTTP listener, put a location rule in the port-80 server block. Do not put this rule in the HTTPS server block, or an already-secure request could be redirected again.

}Use a target that matches your canonical hostname. If the expression includes $request_uri, the original path and query string are retained; if you hard-code the path instead, verify that query parameters needed by the page are preserved. Start with 302, validate, then change to 301 and test the configuration before reloading Nginx.
Exact Nginx commands depend on the distribution and hosting panel. Use the panel’s configuration-test action or the equivalent Nginx syntax check before reloading. If you do not have root or virtual-host access, use the CDN or plugin method instead of editing files you cannot safely validate.
Method 3: Create a selective redirect in a CDN or reverse proxy
A proxy can redirect the request before it reaches WordPress. This is useful when the certificate is installed at the edge or when the origin is managed by another team. Cloudflare’s guidance is explicit: when only some parts of an application support HTTPS, do not enable the global Always Use HTTPS setting; create one selective redirect for the supported path.

- Confirm that the domain is proxied through the service and that its edge certificate is active.
- Create a redirect rule whose match condition includes the exact URI path, such as
/checkout, and whose request scheme is HTTP. - Set the destination to the same hostname and path with the
httpsscheme. Preserve the query string if the page uses one. - Choose a temporary status while testing. Change it to a permanent 301 only after the page and its dependencies pass.
- Make sure no origin rule or WordPress plugin performs a second redirect for the same request.
Keep the rule as narrow as practical. A condition that matches every path beginning with /checkout may unintentionally redirect assets or unrelated endpoints. Conversely, matching only /checkout while WordPress canonicalizes to /checkout/ can produce an avoidable second hop.
When the origin is still HTTP
Some proxy configurations encrypt traffic between the browser and the edge but use HTTP from the edge to the origin. That can be an intentional deployment choice, but WordPress must still be told which scheme the visitor used. If the application sees an HTTPS visitor as HTTP, it can emit HTTP links or repeatedly redirect the request. For sensitive pages, verify the proxy’s origin-encryption mode and the certificate expected by the origin rather than assuming that an edge certificate automatically secures every hop.
Method 4: Use a WordPress plugin for per-page control
A plugin is the practical option when you cannot edit Apache, Nginx, or CDN rules. The Really Simple SSL Pro project documents adding individual pages to SSL and also offers a bulk selection workflow. WP Force SSL documents redirect and diagnostic features, including certificate and mixed-content checks; some checks are Pro features. Interfaces, names, installation counts, and plan boundaries change, so confirm the current screens in the plugin’s listing before following a saved tutorial.
- Install the plugin from the WordPress administrator and activate it.
- Confirm that the certificate is already valid by opening the intended HTTPS URL directly. A plugin cannot create a valid certificate for a domain that the server does not serve over TLS.
- Open the plugin’s page-level SSL or HTTPS control and select only the page or pages that need HTTPS.
- Enable the plugin’s redirect option for those selections. Leave any site-wide enforcement option disabled when the requirement is genuinely limited to one path.
- Run the available certificate and mixed-content diagnostics. Treat premium-only scanners as optional tooling, not as proof that the page is secure.
- Clear the plugin, page-cache, and CDN caches, then test the HTTP and HTTPS URLs in a private browser window.
Plugin redirects execute inside WordPress, so a broken plugin, an early fatal error, or a cache rule can prevent the redirect. If a server or edge rule already exists, keep the plugin’s page selection informational or remove the duplicate redirect.

Forcing the page URL to HTTPS does not automatically fix mixed content. Browsers inspect the protocol of included resources before making each request. An HTTPS document that references http://cdn.example.net/style.css, an image, font, iframe, script, AJAX endpoint, or form action can show warnings, block active content, or render without styling.

Find the offending URLs
- Open the HTTPS page in a current browser.
- Open Developer Tools and inspect the Console and Security panels for mixed-content messages.
- In the Network panel, filter for blocked or failed requests and inspect the initiator to identify the page element that created each URL.
- View the page source and rendered DOM for hard-coded
http://references. Check CSS files as well as HTML; fonts and background images are often inside stylesheets. - Test third-party embeds separately. The provider must support HTTPS; changing your page URL cannot make an HTTP-only iframe or API secure.
Correct the references
- Change internal WordPress URLs to
https://or use root-relative URLs such as/wp-content/uploads/file.jpgwhere appropriate. - Update theme templates, custom CSS, block settings, widgets, JavaScript configuration, and form actions that contain absolute HTTP URLs.
- Change AJAX and REST endpoints to HTTPS and verify that the server accepts the secure origin.
- Replace or remove third-party resources that do not offer HTTPS. Do not silence the warning by leaving an insecure script in place.
- Use a database search-and-replace tool carefully when URLs are stored in serialized WordPress data. Back up first and preview replacements; a blind text replacement can corrupt serialized values.
Cloudflare’s Automatic HTTPS Rewrites feature can rewrite some eligible HTTP links to HTTPS, but it cannot repair every hard-coded URL or make an HTTP-only service available over TLS. Treat it as assistance after the source URLs and third-party dependencies have been reviewed, not as a substitute for cleanup.
Prevent reverse-proxy redirect loops
WordPress can enter an infinite redirect loop when a proxy accepts HTTPS from the browser, forwards plain HTTP to WordPress, and does not pass the original scheme in a trusted header. WordPress then believes the request is HTTP and redirects to HTTPS on every pass.
Configure the proxy to send its standard forwarded-protocol header and configure WordPress or the hosting stack to trust that header only from the proxy. A commonly used PHP pattern is:

}The exact setting belongs in the environment’s documented configuration, not copied blindly into a theme. If users can reach the origin directly, an attacker may be able to spoof a forwarded header; restrict trust to known proxy networks or configure the web server to set the value itself. The same issue can affect forced HTTPS for the WordPress administration area.

- HTTP redirect: request the exact old URL with
curl -I. Confirm one 301 (or the temporary 302 during testing) and a correct HTTPSLocation. - HTTPS response: request the final URL directly. Confirm that it does not redirect back to HTTP and that the certificate matches the hostname.
- Canonical variants: test slash and non-slash forms, the
wwwvariant if it exists, and URLs with query strings. - Browser console: confirm there are no mixed-content, certificate, blocked-script, or CORS errors.
- Visual assets: verify stylesheets, images, fonts, videos, and iframes load without warnings.
- Forms: submit contact, login, checkout, or payment forms in a test environment. Inspect the form action and the final request scheme.
- Dynamic behavior: test AJAX buttons, REST requests, analytics, reCAPTCHA, webhooks, and any embedded payment frame used by the page.
- Caches: purge WordPress page cache, reverse-proxy cache, and CDN cache after changing redirects. Re-test in a private window and from a second network if possible.
The documentation behind these configuration patterns describes expected failure modes; no independent benchmark or conversion test establishes that a single-page redirect improves a particular business metric.
Troubleshoot by symptom

Understand the security and maintenance trade-off
A selective HTTPS page is appropriate when a legacy application, vendor integration, or staged migration prevents immediate site-wide HTTPS. It can protect a particular checkout or form while the rest of the site remains unchanged. The trade-off is complexity: visitors move between schemes, links and cookies may behave differently, and every future edit to that page can introduce a new HTTP dependency.
Do not enable HSTS for the whole hostname merely because one page works over HTTPS. HSTS tells browsers to replace future HTTP requests with HTTPS, which effectively changes the scope from one page to the site and can make an incomplete migration difficult to undo. Consider site-wide HTTPS before relying on HSTS.
Maintain the certificate’s renewal process, monitor the selected URL after theme and plugin updates, and review third-party embeds whenever their provider changes. If the page handles authentication, personal data, or payment details, plan to secure the associated login, account, callback, and API endpoints as well; encrypting only the visible page does not protect an HTTP submission destination.

- Move to site-wide HTTPS when the page is part of login, account management, checkout, administration, or an application whose resources are broadly shared. The operational burden of maintaining two schemes usually exceeds the short-term convenience of a single-page exception.
