As of October 13, 2026, you cannot yet enable DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy. NVIDIA has announced a game update for November 5, 2026, but has not published the in-game menu path, toggle name, restart requirement, or any DLSS 5 quality selector. The announced update adds DLSS Neural Rendering and upgrades the game’s other DLSS technologies.
Until that patch is live, treat any guide claiming a confirmed Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 switch as unverified. You can, however, prepare your supported platform and choose an appropriate DLSS Super Resolution mode. Super Resolution’s Quality, Performance, and Ultra Performance settings are separate from DLSS 5 Neural Rendering.
When DLSS 5 becomes available in Hogwarts Legacy
NVIDIA’s October 13, 2026 announcement states that “In a new update launching November 5th, DLSS Neural Rendering will be added to Hogwarts Legacy, and its other DLSS technologies upgraded to their newest versions.” Read the announcement at NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 Hogwarts Legacy update article.
That announcement establishes a planned release date, not a currently usable feature. Before November 5, the public information does not establish a Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 control or a supported procedure for turning it on. The exact implementation could be exposed as a toggle, a submenu, or another control; NVIDIA has not documented which one.

- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
DLSS 5 should also not be confused with the DLSS features already available in the game. NVIDIA says Hogwarts Legacy already supports Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction on GeForce RTX PCs and laptops. The November update is intended to add Neural Rendering and bring the other DLSS technologies to newer versions.
What DLSS 5 does—and what “quality mode” refers to
DLSS 5 Neural Rendering
DLSS 5 is NVIDIA’s 3D-Guided Neural Rendering technology. It combines conventional, artist-controlled rendering with generative AI to add lighting and material detail while following the game’s scene information. NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang described it in the March 16, 2026 announcement as “the GPT moment for graphics,” referring to a change in how visual detail is produced rather than a conventional resolution preset. The technical overview is available in NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 visual-fidelity announcement.
The Hogwarts Legacy announcement says Avalanche Software used DLSS 5 SDK controls to tune the integration to preserve the game’s artistic intent and style. That is NVIDIA’s description of the development approach, not an independent measurement of image quality or frame rate.

DLSS Super Resolution modes
Quality, Performance, and Ultra Performance are scaling modes for DLSS Super Resolution. Super Resolution reconstructs a higher-resolution output from a lower-resolution render to increase performance. The mode names describe the balance between internal render resolution and output image quality; they are not names for DLSS 5 Neural Rendering modes.
NVIDIA’s feature guide also distinguishes Super Resolution from DLAA, which targets image quality at native resolution instead of increasing performance, and from Ray Reconstruction, Frame Generation, and Multi Frame Generation. These controls can appear together in a game’s graphics menu, but they perform different jobs. NVIDIA’s descriptions and general recommendations are in its DLSS and GeForce RTX feature list.
Which platforms are announced as supported?
NVIDIA lists three platform categories for the Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 update. It does not identify a minimum RTX model, a complete list of laptop GPUs, or additional eligibility requirements.
| Platform | What NVIDIA announces | What is not established |
|---|---|---|
| GeForce RTX 50 Series | The local PC hardware family named for the update. | No minimum card model, laptop-specific requirement, driver version, or performance target is specified. |
| GeForce NOW | NVIDIA lists the cloud-gaming service as a supported platform category. | The announcement does not state a plan tier, regional availability, stream resolution, latency, or subscription requirement for this feature. |
| RTX Spark | NVIDIA lists RTX Spark among the platforms receiving the update. | The announcement does not provide a detailed hardware specification or separate Hogwarts Legacy settings instructions. |
Do not generalize this announcement to every GeForce RTX card or every version of the game. A local RTX 50 Series graphics card is one announced route, but NVIDIA’s inclusion of GeForce NOW and RTX Spark means local hardware is not described as mandatory for every supported setup.
What access could mean for your budget
The announcement identifies access categories, not prices. NVIDIA does not state that the Hogwarts Legacy update requires buying a new graphics card, nor does it publish a DLSS 5-specific GeForce NOW subscription tier, cloud surcharge, RTX Spark price, or regional availability list. A local GeForce RTX 50 Series card is therefore a relevant hardware path for someone already planning a PC upgrade, but the announcement does not justify a model-specific buying recommendation.
Cloud access and RTX Spark are named alternatives to local hardware. They may involve their own service, hardware, or account conditions, but those conditions are not documented for this update. Check the current terms of the platform you use rather than assuming that a particular plan, country, stream resolution, or latency level is guaranteed.

What to do before November 5, 2026
You cannot activate an unpublished control, but a few checks will prevent confusion when the update arrives.
- Confirm your platform. Determine whether you play locally on an announced GeForce RTX 50 Series system, through GeForce NOW, or on RTX Spark. The announcement does not promise the feature for unlisted platforms.
- Keep the game ready to update. Use your platform’s normal update mechanism and verify that the installed game version changes on or after November 5. Do not assume that an unchanged pre-update build contains DLSS 5.
- Record your current graphics settings. Note your output resolution, Super Resolution mode, Frame Generation setting, Ray Reconstruction setting, and ray-tracing options. This gives you a clean baseline when the updated controls appear.
- Separate the controls in your notes. Label any existing Super Resolution setting separately from the future Neural Rendering option. A Quality or Performance selector is not proof that DLSS 5 is installed.
- Use official documentation after release. NVIDIA’s announcement does not yet provide a Hogwarts Legacy menu path. Check the updated game’s documentation or official patch notes before following a procedural guide that claims to know the exact location.
How to check for DLSS 5 after the update
Once the November 5 update is available for your platform, use this verification sequence. It deliberately avoids inventing a menu path that NVIDIA has not published.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Update the game first. Wait for your launcher or cloud service to report that the post-November 5 build is installed. If the platform still reports the pre-update version, the new control cannot be confirmed.
- Launch Hogwarts Legacy and open its graphics or display settings. Look for a control explicitly identified as DLSS Neural Rendering or DLSS 5 in the updated documentation or in-game interface. Do not treat ordinary DLSS Super Resolution presets as the new feature.
- Check the platform and hardware shown by the game. If the option is absent, confirm that you are using one of NVIDIA’s announced platform categories. The announcement does not establish support for all RTX generations.
- Apply the setting and observe the game’s own instructions. The public announcement does not say whether a restart, scene reload, or other confirmation is required, so follow the behavior of the released build rather than a generic DLSS tutorial.
- Test one variable at a time. Leave your Super Resolution mode unchanged while verifying Neural Rendering. Then adjust Super Resolution separately if you need more performance. This prevents a change in reconstructed resolution from being mistaken for the effect of DLSS 5.
- Recheck after patches. The November release is the announced introduction. Later game or driver updates may rename controls or change their defaults; use the current in-game label and official notes as the authority.
If the updated game contains no Neural Rendering control, that does not prove your hardware is defective. It may indicate that your platform is outside the announced categories, that the update has not reached your region or service instance, or that the released interface uses a different documented name.
Choosing a DLSS Super Resolution mode
NVIDIA’s published recommendations are based on output resolution, not on a Hogwarts Legacy benchmark. Use them as starting points, then judge image stability and performance on your own display and hardware.
| Output resolution | NVIDIA’s general starting mode | How to use the recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 1920×1080 (1080p) | Quality | Begin with Quality. Move away from it only if your measured performance is insufficient or another mode gives an acceptable image on your display. |
| 2560×1440 (1440p) | Quality | Begin with Quality and inspect fine geometry, foliage, text, and motion. This is vendor guidance, not a Hogwarts Legacy-specific result. |
| 3840×2160 (4K) | Performance | NVIDIA’s general 4K recommendation is Performance. Compare distant detail and moving foliage while checking frame-time consistency. |
| 7680×4320 (8K) | Ultra Performance | NVIDIA’s general 8K recommendation is Ultra Performance. The lower internal resolution can make image scrutiny especially important on a large display. |
These settings are not promises of a particular frame rate, latency, or visual result. No Hogwarts Legacy-specific measurements establish an objectively best mode for a particular GPU, display, patch, or ray-tracing configuration.
How to evaluate a mode on your system
- Check motion, not just a paused screenshot. Walk through a detailed area and watch thin geometry, foliage, fences, hair, and particles. Reconstruction artifacts often become visible while the camera moves.
- Check temporal stability. Look for shimmering, crawling edges, or detail that changes as you turn the camera. If these distract you, return to the recommended higher-quality mode before lowering other settings.
- Check frame-time consistency. An average frame-rate increase is less useful if traversal stutter or uneven frame delivery becomes worse. Compare the same route and scene after each change.
- Keep output resolution fixed while comparing modes. Changing the display resolution and Super Resolution preset together makes the result difficult to interpret.
- Consider DLAA separately. If performance is already adequate and your priority is native-resolution image quality, DLAA is a different choice from Super Resolution and does not activate DLSS 5.
DLSS features you may see next to the new control
| Feature | Primary purpose | Relationship to DLSS 5 |
|---|---|---|
| DLSS Neural Rendering (DLSS 5) | Adds 3D-guided neural lighting and material detail. | The feature announced for Hogwarts Legacy on November 5, 2026. |
| DLSS Super Resolution | Reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render. | Its Quality, Performance, and Ultra Performance modes are separate controls. |
| DLAA | Targets anti-aliasing and image quality at native resolution. | Not a DLSS 5 mode and not a performance-upscaling preset. |
| Ray Reconstruction | Enhances ray-traced lighting reconstruction. | NVIDIA says Hogwarts Legacy already supports it on GeForce RTX PCs and laptops. |
| Frame Generation | Generates additional frames between rendered frames. | Separate from Neural Rendering. A Frame Generation preset is not a DLSS 5 toggle. |
| Multi Frame Generation | Generates multiple additional frames under supported conditions. | NVIDIA says the game already supports it on GeForce RTX PCs and laptops. |
How to interpret NVIDIA’s headline numbers
NVIDIA’s October 13 article describes a broader DLSS 5 model update with a model footprint 24% smaller, approximately 118 million parameters, and 20% lower 4K VRAM usage. Those are general model-update figures, not measurements taken from Hogwarts Legacy. They should not be converted into a promised memory saving or frame-rate increase for your system.

The same article cites up to 1.4× frame rates for the model’s debut in NBA 2K27. That example concerns another game. It also cites up to 35% faster performance on a GeForce RTX 5060 for the separate beta Frame Generation Preset C mode in the NVIDIA app. Preset C is not DLSS 5 Neural Rendering, and neither figure predicts the result of enabling the Hogwarts Legacy update.
NVIDIA also says Hogwarts Legacy has sold more than 40 million copies. That figure provides context for the scale of the title and the significance of the integration, but it says nothing about compatibility, image quality, or performance on an individual PC.
Update-day troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm the date and build. The announced launch date is November 5, 2026. Record the actual game version shown by your launcher or service after updating.
- Check platform eligibility first. Compare your setup with the named GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW, and RTX Spark categories before changing drivers or configuration files.
- Read the released notes. Look for the final control name, location, driver requirements, and any restart instruction. None of those details is in the October 13 announcement.
- Capture a baseline. Use the same resolution, scene, camera route, and graphics settings when comparing the old and updated versions.
- Change one setting at a time. Verify Neural Rendering independently, then test Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, Frame Generation, or Multi Frame Generation separately.
- Restore defaults if necessary. If the interface behaves unexpectedly, use the game’s documented reset option rather than copying RTX Remix commands or unofficial configuration edits.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Looking for the option before release
Before November 5, an absent DLSS 5 control is expected. Do not modify configuration files or install an unofficial workaround based on a menu that NVIDIA has not documented.

Calling Super Resolution “DLSS 5”
A Quality, Performance, or Ultra Performance selector identifies Super Resolution. It does not confirm Neural Rendering. Verify the feature name itself in the updated game or official documentation.
Using RTX Remix instructions
NVIDIA’s announcement discusses DLSS 5 use in RTX Remix, but RTX Remix developer/runtime instructions are for that toolkit. They are not Hogwarts Legacy enablement steps and should not be copied into the game’s configuration.
Confusing Frame Generation Preset C with Neural Rendering
The same NVIDIA article describes a beta Frame Generation performance mode called Preset C in the NVIDIA app. That is a separate Frame Generation model preset, not the Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 Neural Rendering control.
Assuming every RTX GPU is eligible
The announcement names GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW, and RTX Spark. It does not state that all RTX generations receive the new feature. If the option is missing after the update, check the platform category before changing unrelated settings.
Transferring unrelated performance figures
NVIDIA cites figures such as a model-footprint reduction and frame-rate gains for other demonstrations, including NBA 2K27 and a separate Frame Generation Preset C mode. Those figures are not Hogwarts Legacy benchmarks and should not be used to predict your result.

At the current publication date, the following details are still unresolved for Hogwarts Legacy:
- The exact toggle name and menu location.
- Whether Neural Rendering has selectable modes of its own.
- Whether enabling it requires a restart, scene reload, or other confirmation.
- The minimum GPU model within the announced RTX 50 Series category.
- Driver, operating-system, game-edition, regional, or cloud-service requirements beyond the named platforms.
- Measured image-quality and frame-rate differences for particular resolutions or hardware.
Those are release-specific facts. Recheck the live game and NVIDIA’s post-update documentation before publishing or relying on detailed procedural instructions.
Bottom line for players today
There is no confirmed way to turn on DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy before the announced November 5, 2026 update. Prepare by identifying whether you use a GeForce RTX 50 Series system, GeForce NOW, or RTX Spark, then update the game and verify the newly documented Neural Rendering control after release. For Super Resolution in the meantime, start with Quality at 1080p or 1440p, Performance at 4K, and Ultra Performance at 8K, while treating those as general NVIDIA guidance rather than tested Hogwarts Legacy settings.
