Enable RedM DLC content by setting sv_enforceGameBuild to a compatible build number in your server configuration, then fully restart the server. A practical starting point is build 1436 for broad content compatibility, but servers with players who own a standalone Red Dead Online license should use at least build 1355. The correct value ultimately depends on the licenses your players hold and the build requirements documented by your scripts and MLOs.
The setting that enables newer RedM content
RedM uses the sv_enforceGameBuild convar to tell connecting clients which game build the server enforces. Add one line to server.cfg:

sv_enforceGameBuild 1436Replace 1436 with the build you have selected. The line can be placed directly in the file, entered through txAdmin’s CFG Editor, or set in a host control panel that exposes a Game Settings section. After saving the change, stop and restart the server; a configuration edit does not apply to an already-running instance.
This setting controls the enforced game build. It does not, by itself, download every DLC asset, install a framework, or start a resource. Resources still have to be loaded separately with entries such as ensure resource-folder-name in server.cfg. Think of the build setting as the compatibility level and ensure lines as the instructions that actually start resources.

Choose a build before editing the server
Build selection is a compatibility decision, not simply a choice of the largest number. The following values and dates come from Shockbyte’s build table; the compatibility notes should be treated as practical guidance rather than an official, complete RedM build catalogue.

Two rules resolve most build disputes:
- Protect license compatibility first. If any player has a standalone Red Dead Online license, Haptic’s guidance is to remain on build 1355 or newer. Players must own the matching content for the client to connect.
- Match the resources second. Frameworks, maps and MLOs commonly state a required game build in their readme. Check those requirements before choosing a value, and do not assume that the newest number is automatically supported.
The available material does not establish an official, current build list or a complete definition of what every number changes. Treat 1355, 1436 and 1491 as documented options, read each resource’s installation notes, and test the selected value with the actual client versions and licenses used by your community.

Before changing anything, make a copy of server.cfg or use your host’s configuration backup feature. A small syntax error can prevent startup, and a backup gives you a quick rollback path.

- Local or rented VPS installation: you edit the file in the server’s configuration directory, usually with a text editor or an SFTP client.
- txAdmin-managed installation: the CFG Editor provides a browser-based view of the same configuration file.
- Game-server host panel: some hosts expose a Game Settings field that writes the convar for you. The panel may still generate or overwrite
server.cfg, so use one management method consistently.
Method 1: edit server.cfg directly
- Stop the server completely. Nodecraft advises that the server be fully stopped before configuration changes. Do not edit while the process is writing a live configuration or while players are connected.
- Open
server.cfg. Use plain text, not a word processor. Preserve the existing quotes, comments and line endings. - Add one build line. Insert the selected value on its own line, for example:
sv_enforceGameBuild 1436 - Save the file. Check that the filename remains exactly
server.cfgand that your editor did not append an extra extension such as.txt. - Check for duplicates. Search the entire file for
sv_enforceGameBuild. Keep one active line only. Shockbyte lists duplicate entries as a troubleshooting cause; two conflicting values make it unclear which setting the server will use. - Start the server again. Wait for the normal startup sequence to finish before testing a client connection.
Method 2: use txAdmin’s CFG Editor
- Open the txAdmin web interface for the correct server instance.
- Open the CFG Editor and locate the section containing your other server convars.
- Add
sv_enforceGameBuild 1436, changing the number to the build you selected. - Save the configuration, then verify that the editor has not inserted a second copy elsewhere in the file.
- Stop and restart the server from txAdmin. A resource restart or a player reconnect alone is not enough; the convar must be read during server startup.
If txAdmin regenerates the configuration from a profile, make the change in the profile or template that actually launches this server. Otherwise a later restart can restore the old value.
Method 3: use a host control panel
Some hosting panels expose the setting under Game Settings, Server Settings or a similar configuration page. The label and location vary by provider.

- Open the page that controls game or startup settings.
- Enter the chosen build number in the field for
sv_enforceGameBuild, or add the complete convar line if the panel provides a custom configuration box. - Save or apply the setting.
- Inspect the generated configuration, if the panel allows it, and confirm that only one
sv_enforceGameBuildline exists. - Start the server and wait until it reports a completed startup.
Do not maintain one value in the panel and a different value in a manually edited file. The panel may overwrite the file on the next restart, making the apparent change disappear.
Load DLC-dependent resources separately
Setting the enforced build makes the server eligible to use content available to that build; it does not automatically enable every script or map. To start a resource, add its folder name to server.cfg with an ensure line:

ensure resource-folder-nameUse the exact resource folder name and follow the resource author’s installation readme for ordering, dependencies and any additional convars. A resource can fail even when the build is correct if its dependencies are missing, its folder is misnamed, or its author requires another build.
Keep these two checks separate when diagnosing a missing DLC feature:
- Build check: Is
sv_enforceGameBuildset to a value that contains the required content and is the server actually restarted? - Resource check: Is the relevant script, map or MLO present and started with
ensure, with all dependencies installed?
Verify the change after restart
Use a controlled test rather than changing several variables at once.
- Confirm the active configuration contains the intended single build line.
- Restart the server fully and wait for startup to complete.
- Connect with a test account that owns the relevant Red Dead Online content.
- Check the server console for resource errors and confirm that the DLC-dependent resource reports a successful start.
- Test the actual item, map area or mechanic supplied by the resource. A successful connection only proves that the client and server accepted the enforced build; it does not prove that every resource loaded correctly.
- Have another player with the same required license connect. This helps distinguish a server configuration problem from an individual account’s missing content.
Document the selected build, the resources that require it and the date of the change. That record makes future updates and rollbacks safer, especially when a host panel regenerates configuration files.

Troubleshoot connection and DLC failures
Players see “invalid game enforcement,” including error 1604
Community reports include a Reddit thread titled around “server specified an invalid game enforcement (1604).” The error means the selected enforcement value is not being accepted by at least one connecting client, but the report itself does not establish a universal fix.
Work through this order:
- Stop the server and confirm the convar is spelled exactly
sv_enforceGameBuild. - Search for duplicate lines and remove every conflicting copy.
- Check that the value is a documented build for the server setup rather than a number copied from an unrelated guide.
- Verify that the server was fully restarted after the edit.
- Ask affected players to confirm they own the matching Red Dead Online edition or license.
- If the problem began after moving to a newer value, test a supported older value such as 1355, provided it satisfies the resource requirements. A Wild West community discussion describes trying an older build when clients cannot connect; that is a troubleshooting option, not proof that 1355 fixes every 1604 error.
Change one value at a time and record the result. If only one player fails while others connect, investigate that player’s installation or license separately instead of repeatedly changing the server build.
The server starts, but DLC content is missing
- Confirm that the selected build actually covers the content. For example, Shockbyte associates Blood Money content with build 1436.
- Confirm that the relevant resource is installed and has an
ensureentry. - Read the resource’s documentation for a minimum or exact build requirement.
- Check the startup console for dependency, path or script errors.
- Restart after correcting the configuration; reloading only the resource can leave the server running with the old enforced build.
- Test with a player who owns the content. Haptic notes that ownership of matching content is required for connection.
A script or MLO stops working after changing builds
Revert to the last known-good build, then compare it with the requirement in the resource readme. A newer build can improve content coverage while exposing incompatibility in an older resource; an older build can preserve legacy compatibility while lacking content the resource expects. Do not solve this by adding multiple enforcement lines. Pick one server-wide value and update or replace the incompatible resource.
The setting keeps reverting
A control panel, txAdmin profile or deployment script may regenerate server.cfg. Make the change in the authoritative template, save it, stop the server, and inspect the resulting file before starting again. If the generated file contains two values, remove the duplicate at its source rather than deleting only the line produced during the last restart.

A practical build-selection decision framework
Use this sequence when you are unsure which number to enter:

- List player licenses. If a standalone Red Dead Online license is in use, eliminate build 1311 and start at 1355 or newer.
- List resource requirements. Record the minimum or recommended build from every framework, script, map and MLO readme.
- Identify the content target. If Blood Money content is required, build 1436 is the documented option in Shockbyte’s table. If a resource specifically calls for 1491, test that value with your player group.
- Choose the lowest value that satisfies both lists. This avoids demanding a newer client build without a resource or license reason.
- Test before announcing the change. Use a staging instance or a short maintenance window, then have players with the relevant licenses connect.
- Keep a rollback value. Save the previous working line so you can restore service if a resource or client group fails.
This approach balances the two documented trade-offs: license compatibility favors 1355 or higher, while broader newer-content coverage favors 1436 or 1491. There is no single value proven to be correct for every RedM server.
Safe change checklist
- Back up the current configuration.
- Confirm the resource and player-license requirements.
- Stop the server before editing.
- Add exactly one
sv_enforceGameBuild <number>line. - Use the authoritative editor: file, txAdmin profile or host panel.
- Ensure DLC-dependent resources separately with their folder names.
- Save, fully restart and wait for startup completion.
- Test with an account that owns the matching content.
- Check console errors and retain the previous working build for rollback.
What this setting can and cannot solve
sv_enforceGameBuild is the server-side compatibility switch. It can allow clients to negotiate the build your resources require, but it cannot grant a player a license they do not own, repair a missing resource, correct a misspelled folder, or resolve an unrelated script error. DLC availability therefore depends on three pieces lining up: the server’s enforced build, the resources loaded by the server, and the content owned by each connecting player.
