To enable coordinates on a Minecraft Bedrock dedicated server, run gamerule showcoordinates true in the server console without a leading slash. When the server confirms that the rule changed to true, coordinates should appear in the top-left overlay for connected players. You can hide them again with gamerule showcoordinates false.
Choose the method that matches your access
Bedrock provides two ways to show coordinates. A server administrator can set the world rule from the dedicated-server console, while an individual player can use the in-game Show Coordinates setting when that option is available in the world or client settings.

If you control the server, use the game rule first. It is the clearest way to establish the world setting and gives you a confirmation response in the console. If you are simply playing on someone else’s world, try the settings route before asking the administrator to change anything.
Enable coordinates from the Bedrock server console
- Make sure the server is running. In the hosting control panel or terminal session, verify that the Bedrock server status is Running. A command sent while the process is stopped cannot update the world rule.
- Open the server console. Use the live console attached to the Bedrock server process, not a normal operating-system command prompt that is unrelated to the running server.
- Enter the command without a slash:
gamerule showcoordinates true - Submit the command and read the response. The console should report that the game rule was updated to
trueor display an equivalent confirmation. The exact wording depends on the server software or hosting panel. - Reconnect or return to the world. Existing players may need to leave and rejoin before the overlay is refreshed. A reconnect is a practical first check; some platforms may also require a full Minecraft application restart, although that is not universal.
- Check the upper-left corner of the game screen. Bedrock displays the current coordinate values in a small box at the top left when the rule is active.
Console syntax versus in-game chat syntax
The dedicated-server console normally expects the command without a leading slash:

gamerule showcoordinates trueIf you are entering the command in Bedrock chat as an operator, the chat form uses a slash:
/gamerule showcoordinates trueDo not paste the slash into a console that rejects slash-prefixed commands. Conversely, chat generally treats the slash as the command prefix.
Use the rule name exactly
The rule is one word: showcoordinates. It contains no spaces, hyphen, or underscore. Bedrock documentation also shows the spelling showCoordinates with a capital C. Because case-insensitive behavior has not been verified for every console implementation, start with the lowercase form shown above and copy the spelling accepted by your server if it presents a completion or error message.

Enable the Show Coordinates setting in the game
The Minecraft Wiki’s Coordinates guidance identifies the in-game setting as an alternative to the game rule. This route is useful when you do not have console access or when you want to control the overlay for your own session.
- Join the Bedrock world or server.
- Open the pause menu and select Settings.
- Open the Game section.
- Look under World options for Show Coordinates.
- Turn the option on, close the settings screen, and look at the top-left corner for the coordinate box.
Labels and menu placement can differ between Bedrock editions, consoles, mobile devices, and updates. If you cannot find the switch, use the settings search facility if your platform provides one, or ask the server administrator to apply the game rule from the console.
Turn coordinates off again
To hide the coordinate display through the server console, run the same rule with a false value:

gamerule showcoordinates falseUse /gamerule showcoordinates false instead if you are entering it through in-game chat. Wait for the confirmation that the value changed to false, then reconnect if a player’s overlay does not disappear immediately. A player’s local setting may also affect what that player sees, so check the Show Coordinates switch if the display remains visible.
Permissions, cheats, and Bedrock version behavior
Why permission advice differs
Hosting instructions commonly tell administrators to use operator rights or enable cheats before changing gamerules. At the same time, the Minecraft Wiki’s history for this rule records that showing coordinates stopped requiring cheats in Bedrock beta 1.8.0.8. Those statements describe different layers: the game feature itself and the permissions imposed by a particular world, server wrapper, or hosting panel.
As a result, do not assume either extreme. Showing coordinates is not universally locked behind cheats on current Bedrock, but your server may still require an operator or administrator account to execute the console command. If the command is rejected, have an administrator run it or review the server’s permission and cheat configuration.

What the default value means
The Minecraft Wiki lists showcoordinates as a Bedrock-exclusive gamerule with a default of true. A separate search result describes coordinates as disabled by default on Bedrock, so the default should be treated as version- or configuration-dependent rather than guaranteed. Setting the value explicitly is safer than relying on whatever default your world inherited.
Check release-specific behavior
Permission rules, default values, command spelling, and the interaction between server rules and client settings can change with Bedrock updates. For a public or long-running server, verify the behavior against the release notes for the version you actually run before documenting it for players.

The console says the command is unknown or invalid
- Confirm that the server process is running and that you are in its live console.
- Remove the leading slash if you entered
/gamerulein the console. - Check that
showcoordinatesis written as one word with no dash, space, or extra punctuation. - Use the full command, including the value:
gamerule showcoordinates true. - If the server displays a different accepted capitalization, follow that spelling. Documentation uses both
showcoordinatesandshowCoordinates, and case handling is not confirmed for every implementation.
The command is rejected for lack of permission
Ask an operator or server administrator to execute the command. Some hosting guides also recommend checking whether cheats are enabled, while Bedrock’s version history indicates that coordinates themselves no longer universally require cheats. Treat the rejection as a server-permission issue first rather than changing unrelated world settings.

The server confirms true, but no coordinates appear
- Leave the world and reconnect so the client requests the updated rule again.
- Open the in-game settings and verify that Show Coordinates is enabled where the option is exposed.
- Confirm that you changed the intended world or server instance; a command sent to a different console will not affect the world you are viewing.
- If the overlay still does not refresh, close and relaunch Minecraft. A full application restart may help on some platforms, but it is not a required step in every installation.
Only one player can see coordinates
The settings route is player-specific, whereas the server gamerule is a world-level control. If players report different results, compare their individual Show Coordinates settings and their Bedrock versions before changing the server rule again. Client-side override behavior is not documented consistently, so avoid assuming that one player’s display proves what every connected player should see.
The setting is missing from the menu
Menu availability depends on the Bedrock edition, platform, world type, and version. Use the server-console command if you have administrative access. Otherwise, ask an operator to enable it and confirm the rule response. Do not confuse the absence of a menu toggle with proof that the server rule failed.
Where Bedrock shows the coordinates
When enabled, Bedrock places a coordinate box at the top left of the screen. The values identify the player’s position in the world and update as the player moves. The overlay is informational; enabling it does not teleport anyone, change the world seed, or grant administrative powers.
For group play, an administrator can publish the server rule once and tell players to reconnect if their overlays do not update. Players who prefer a clear screen can turn the display off locally when the platform exposes the setting, but changing the server rule to false hides it for the world rather than just for one person.
Administrator checklist
- Confirm the correct Bedrock server is running.
- Open the server’s live console.
- Run
gamerule showcoordinates truewithout a slash. - Wait for an explicit confirmation that the value is
true. - Have players reconnect and check the top-left coordinate box.
- If the command fails, check spelling, operator status, and any server-specific cheat or permission requirement.
- Record the exact Bedrock version and server configuration, because defaults and permissions can change between releases.
Bottom line
For a Bedrock dedicated server, the direct solution is gamerule showcoordinates true in the server console, with no leading slash. Use the in-game Show Coordinates option when you only need a player-level setting, and use false to hide the overlay again. If the command is refused or the display does not update, verify the running server, syntax, permissions, version, and player reconnect before trying anything more disruptive.
