Unturned does not provide a built-in autosave switch. To save the world on a schedule, install and load RocketMod, then enable the AutomaticSave element in Rocket.Unturned.config.xml. Set the interval in seconds—for example, 300 for five minutes or 600 for ten minutes—and restart the server.
The exact Rocket directory depends on whether you self-host or use a game-server provider. The Host Havoc layout, for example, uses Servers\UnturnedServerByHH\Rocket\; another provider or server name can use a different path.
What RocketMod auto save does
RocketMod is the .NET plugin framework used to extend an Unturned dedicated server. Its Unturned configuration includes an AutomaticSave element that periodically writes the current world state to disk. That gives the server a scheduled save point if it later crashes, rather than relying only on whatever manual save process you perform.
This is a server-side setting. It does not change a player’s local files, and it does not create a vanilla Unturned option that is available from Config.txt. Flux’s server-settings guide states the distinction plainly: “There is no autosave setting, because Unturned has no autosave.” If RocketMod is not installed and loaded—or your host does not provide an equivalent plugin feature—there is no native interval field to edit.

Check these prerequisites first
- Use a dedicated Unturned server installation that you can restart.
- Have file-manager, FTP, or console access to the server instance.
- Install RocketMod before editing its configuration. Host Havoc’s instructions explicitly list RocketMod installation as a prerequisite.
- Keep a copy of the configuration before changing it. An XML syntax error can prevent the plugin from loading correctly.
- Know the server instance name. Providers often place several server folders beside one another, so the correct
Rocketdirectory is the one belonging to the instance you actually run.
You do not need to change Unturned’s vanilla Config.txt for this feature. The relevant file belongs to RocketMod.
Install and load RocketMod
Install the RocketMod build supported by your Unturned server and hosting environment, following the provider’s current installation instructions. On a managed host, installation may be a one-click action or an option in the control panel. On a self-hosted machine, you normally place RocketMod in the server installation and start the server so the framework can load.
Start the server at least once after installation. RocketMod normally creates its configuration directory and files during startup. If you look for the XML before the first successful RocketMod start, the directory may not exist yet.
Confirm that the server log shows RocketMod loading before you proceed. A missing or incompatible RocketMod installation cannot apply the autosave setting, even if the XML contains the correct element.

Locate Rocket.Unturned.config.xml
Open the RocketMod configuration directory for the specific server instance. In Host Havoc’s documented layout, the directory is:

Rocket.Unturned.config.xmlThat path is an example, not a universal Windows or Linux path. A self-hosted installation can use a different root folder, and a provider may expose the same location through a web panel rather than a normal file browser.

Open the provider’s Files, File Manager, or Config Files area and browse to the Rocket directory for the Unturned server. Some panels list Rocket.Unturned.config.xml directly in a configuration editor. If the panel offers a current RocketMod configuration workflow, use that instead of assuming that an old file-edit screen still applies.
Self-hosted path
Begin at the folder that contains your Unturned server executable and its server-instance directories. Search within that instance for a folder named Rocket, then open Rocket.Unturned.config.xml. Do not edit a similarly named file belonging to another server instance.

Edit the automatic-save element
Open the XML in a text editor that preserves plain text and XML syntax. Find an existing AutomaticSave element and edit its attributes. If the element is absent, add this line in the configuration’s existing settings section:

Enabled="true"turns scheduled saving on.Interval="300"sets the period in seconds.
Use lowercase true as shown, keep the quotation marks, and retain the XML self-closing slash. Do not paste the line outside the document’s root element, and do not create a second competing AutomaticSave element when one already exists. If the file already contains the element, change its values rather than duplicating it.
Common interval values

These are configuration examples documented by hosting guides, not measured performance or reliability results. The value is interpreted as seconds, so you can calculate another period by converting minutes to seconds. For example, 15 minutes is 900 seconds.
Shorter intervals create more frequent save operations; longer intervals leave more time between writes. The best value depends on how much progress your community can afford to lose and how your server behaves under its normal workload. No benchmark identifies a universally optimal interval.

Save the file and restart the server
- Save
Rocket.Unturned.config.xmlwithout changing its filename or extension. - Check that the edited line is still inside the XML document and that every surrounding tag remains balanced.
- Restart the Unturned server. RocketMod reads this configuration when the server starts; saving the file alone does not reliably apply a new interval to a running process.
- Wait for the server to finish loading, then inspect the startup log or panel status for RocketMod errors.
- Remain connected long enough to pass one complete interval and make a small, reversible world change. After the interval elapses, restart cleanly and verify that the change persists. This confirms that the correct server instance is using the file you edited.
A scheduled save is not a substitute for a separate backup. Autosave updates the live world state; it does not necessarily preserve older restore points if a bad change, corruption, or an administrative mistake is written to disk.

First start the server once after RocketMod installation and let it finish its startup sequence. Current hosting guidance documents this as the point at which the Rocket directory and configuration files are generated.
If the file still does not appear, work through these checks:
- Confirm that RocketMod is installed for this particular server instance, not just somewhere else on the machine or account.
- Check the server log for a plugin-load failure, version mismatch, or permission error.
- Refresh the provider’s file manager and inspect the instance-specific Rocket directory again.
- Ask the provider where its current RocketMod configuration editor stores the file. Folder names and panel layouts vary.
- Do not create a new XML file in an arbitrary directory and expect RocketMod to read it; the framework looks in its own configuration location.
If the provider has replaced direct file access with a settings form, follow that current workflow. Pingperfect’s published page labels its XML procedure an “Old Method,” which is a reminder that a provider’s panel instructions can change even when the underlying RocketMod setting remains the same.

Self-hosting and managed hosting compared
The XML syntax is the same conceptually, but the administration experience differs.

Neither hosting model changes the meaning of Interval. The important difference is whether you can reach the correct Rocket directory and restart the correct instance.
Troubleshoot an autosave setting that appears not to work
The server starts, but no scheduled save seems to occur
- Reopen the file and verify that
Enabled="true"is present on the activeAutomaticSaveelement. - Confirm that
Intervalis a number expressed in seconds, not a value such as5mor00:05:00. - Make sure you restarted after saving the XML.
- Check that you edited the configuration belonging to the running server instance.
- Look for RocketMod errors in the startup log. A malformed XML document or failed plugin load prevents the setting from being read.
The XML will not save or reverts after a restart
Some control panels regenerate configuration files from their own settings forms. If your edit disappears, use the panel’s RocketMod configuration screen or ask the host whether it overwrites the file during deployment. Keep a copy of the intended element so you can compare the generated file.
The server fails to start after the edit
- Stop trying to change multiple settings at once.
- Restore the backup copy of
Rocket.Unturned.config.xmlor remove only the newly added line. - Check that the document has one root element, properly closed tags, and straight quotation marks.
- Start the server and read the first RocketMod/XML error in the log.
- Once the server starts normally, reapply the autosave element carefully inside the existing settings structure.
The setting works on one server but not another
RocketMod configuration is tied to a server instance. Repeat the path check for every instance and verify that each one has its own Rocket.Unturned.config.xml. A change in a staging or test server’s folder will not affect a production instance.
What this setting does not provide
- It does not add autosave to an unmodified vanilla Unturned server.
- It does not guarantee recovery from every crash or storage failure.
- It does not create a history of dated restore points.
- It does not replace provider backups or your own offline copies.
- It does not make the interval a clock-precise promise; the server must be running and RocketMod must be loaded for scheduled actions to occur.
RocketMod is the framework associated with this configuration route. The Unturned Wiki describes it as a .NET game-server plugin framework and notes that a maintained fork continued after the original project ceased maintenance. Because frameworks and hosting panels can change, check the RocketMod build and provider instructions that match your server version before installing or upgrading.
