Godlike.Host offers hosted Counter-Strike 2 servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
To enable GOTV on a Counter-Strike 2 community server, set tv_enable 1, choose a spectator port (the commonly reported default is UDP 27020), apply the configuration, and change or reload the map. Verify the TV instance with status or tv_status, then have viewers connect to the GOTV port rather than the normal game port.
Use the launch command for tv_port when possible: community reports agree that +tv_port 30000 works at startup, while runtime changes to tv_port are not consistently documented for CS2. The cvar names largely resemble SourceTV controls from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, but Valve has not published a complete CS2 GOTV reference in the material available for this guide. Check your server’s live cvar list if a setting is rejected.
What GOTV does on a CS2 server
GOTV is Counter-Strike’s spectator broadcast service. It creates a TV spectator endpoint that receives the match state and presents the game to viewers without putting those viewers into the playing team. A community server can use it for live observation, delayed tournament viewing, staff oversight, or demo capture.
The TV endpoint is separate from the port players use to join the match. On installations using the reported default, players connect to the normal game port and viewers connect over UDP 27020. If you select another port, that port must be reachable through the host firewall and any cloud or router firewall in front of the server.

GOTV is not the same as the uncertain “Watch Game in Progress” menu behavior on custom servers. Community discussions have not established that the in-game menu will reliably discover or join a friend’s community-server match, so plan to give viewers the server address and TV port directly.
Before you change anything
Confirm that you control the dedicated server
You need access to the server console, its configuration files, or its startup command. A panel may expose a TV toggle instead of showing the raw cvar. For example, some containerized server images name the switch TV_ENABLE and use 0 for off and 1 for on; the underlying server setting remains tv_enable 1.

Expect CS2-specific differences
Many detailed GOTV instructions online were written for CS:GO. Shared cvar names are likely, but some controls may have been removed, renamed, or changed in CS2. Treat a rejected command as a version difference, not as proof that the entire TV service is unavailable. Use the console’s cvar listing and the output of tv_status to see what your build actually exposes.
Plan a restart or map transition
Community reports indicate that the GOTV bot may not appear immediately after tv_enable 1. A map change, server reload, or full restart is the practical activation step. Schedule that transition before a match if you cannot interrupt a live game.
Enable GOTV with a server configuration
Method 1: Put the core setting in server.cfg
Add the following to the configuration file that your server loads for the community instance. Keep comments if they help your administrators identify the TV endpoint.

tv_advertise_watchable 1tv_enable 1 is the required switch. The name and title are optional labels. The 90-second delay shown here is a commonly used competitive-style value, not a universal requirement; select a delay that matches your moderation and broadcast policy. tv_advertise_watchable 1 is useful when you want the game UI to advertise a watchable broadcast. External clients still need the TV endpoint and its port.

Although some guides show tv_port in a config file, the safer cross-hosting practice is to set the port at process startup. If your host ignores the file value, move the port setting to the launch command described below.
Method 2: Set the port at startup
Add the TV options to the command or panel field that starts the dedicated server. A generic Linux-style example is:
./cs2 -dedicated +tv_enable 1 +tv_port 27020Do not copy the executable path or other game arguments blindly; retain the arguments required by your installation. If UDP 27020 is already occupied, choose an unused port, for example:
./cs2 -dedicated +tv_enable 1 +tv_port 30000Every viewer must use the selected port, and the host firewall must permit UDP traffic to it. Keep the port stable once you have published it to your spectators.

Method 3: Use a hosting panel or container environment
Hosting panels commonly translate a checkbox into environment variables or startup arguments. Set the TV toggle to enabled, specify the TV port, save the change, and restart the container or service. A panel-level value of TV_ENABLE=1 is equivalent in intent to tv_enable 1; it does not create a second, different GOTV system.
Apply the setting and verify the TV instance
- Save the configuration or startup command. Make sure the active server instance—not a template or an unused profile—contains the change.
- Restart or change the map. If you cannot restart, issue a controlled
changelevelcommand from the server console. Community reports place GOTV-bot creation after this transition, but the exact timing can vary by build. - Run a status check. Enter
statusin the server console and look for the TV spectator entry or a listening TV endpoint. - Run the TV-specific check. Enter
tv_statusif your build provides it. Record the output when troubleshooting so you can distinguish a disabled TV from a connection or firewall problem. - Test from outside the host. Connect a separate client to the server’s TV address and selected port. Testing from the same machine can hide a firewall or NAT mistake.
The console should not be treated as proof that a viewer can connect. A successful test requires both a running TV instance and a network path to its UDP port.

Names and behavior in the last three rows have lower confidence because they are carried forward from community material rather than a Valve CS2 reference. If the server reports an unknown command, remove that line and continue with the core TV settings.
Give spectators the right connection details
Send viewers the server address, the TV port, and any TV password separately from the player connection information. The player port and the GOTV port are not interchangeable. If you changed tv_port to 30000, a viewer using the default 27020 will fail even when the game server itself is healthy.
When a password is configured, distribute it only to the intended audience. A delay protects competitive integrity by keeping live positions and tactics away from players still in the match; it does not replace access control, staff moderation, or a private server.
If the viewer sees no TV session after connecting, have the administrator check tv_status, confirm the map has transitioned since enabling GOTV, and verify that UDP traffic reaches the selected port. Do not diagnose the problem solely from the ordinary player-server browser.
Record a GOTV demo
Manual recording
Community guides describe the following console sequence:
tv_record match_name
tv_stoprecordThe first command starts a TV demo using the supplied name; the second stops the recording. Use a simple filename without spaces or shell-special characters so that it is easy to locate and archive. On some servers, manual recording does not work until the service has completed one map transition after being enabled. If the command is rejected, check tv_status and confirm that the TV instance is active before trying again.

Automatic recording
tv_autorecord 1 is reported as the switch for recording every match automatically. Because this behavior is not confirmed by an authoritative CS2 reference, test it on a non-competitive map first. Confirm where the files are written, how filenames are generated, and whether storage is sufficient before enabling it for a full season.
Recording consumes disk space and can add processing or I/O pressure. Set a retention policy: move completed demos off the live server, keep only the matches required by your league or moderation rules, and monitor free space. A successful tv_record command is not a backup; copy important demos to separate storage after the match.
Use relays only after the master works
A relay is a separate server instance that connects to a master GOTV server and serves additional viewers. This can distribute spectator traffic instead of making every viewer connect directly to the match server. The master must be working first, and the relay needs the master’s address, TV port, and any required relay credential.
Community tournament instructions show a relay launched with a +tv_relay target and a +tv_relaypassword value. Treat those parameters as build-dependent and verify them against your actual CS2 cvar list before deployment. Do not rely on claims about a newer relay-encryption cvar unless Valve documents that control for your version; the existence and behavior of such a setting are not established here.

Relays are not necessary for a small community match. They add another process, another firewall path, and another point of failure. First prove that a direct spectator can connect to the master, then add one relay and verify its status before publishing the relay address.
Troubleshooting by symptom

Important limitations and deployment decisions
GOTV applies to the master instance
One community source notes that tv_enable applies to the master instance. In a relay layout, enabling the cvar on a relay does not substitute for enabling and validating GOTV on the master that produces the broadcast.

Offline testing is only a smoke test
Anecdotal community advice says GOTV can be tested in an offline match with bots. That can show whether the local service starts, but it does not prove that your public address, firewall, NAT, password, delay, or relay path is correct. Perform a real external-client test before advertising an event.
Do not assume every CS:GO instruction still applies
Most cvar names in this guide come from community reports and hosting documentation. CS2 updates can alter defaults and accepted commands. Keep a dated copy of the working startup command, record the output of status and tv_status, and retest after major server updates.

No. A direct connection to the master GOTV endpoint is sufficient for a small audience. Relays are an optional architecture for distributing viewers and require their own compatible startup settings and network paths.
