Yes. You can edit photos in Google Photos on the web, Android, and iPhone or iPad. The mobile apps offer some tools that the web editor does not, and the controls you see can vary by device, photo, and region.
How to edit a photo in Google Photos
On a computer
- Go to photos.google.com and open a photo.
- Select Edit and make your changes. The web editor includes adjustments such as brightness, contrast, highlights, shadows, saturation, warmth, and white and black point.
- Select Save to apply the changes, or choose Save as copy if you want to keep the unedited original.
Some editing features are not available on the web. If you do not see a tool you want, try the Google Photos app on Android or iOS. Google documents the web workflow and available adjustments in its computer editing help.
On Android
- Open the photo in the Google Photos app and tap Edit.
- Choose an available tool. Depending on the app version, tools may appear under Tools or be searchable.
- Make your edits, then save them to the original or as a copy.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the photo in the Google Photos app and tap Edit.
- Select an available tool. Tool names and category layout may differ from Android.
- Make your changes and save.
Google’s mobile instructions are available for Android and iPhone and iPad.

What editing tools are available?
Depending on the platform, device, and photo, Google Photos may offer cropping, rotation, straightening, filters, markup, brightness and other light adjustments, color adjustments, and selected enhancement or object-editing tools. Google’s mobile help lists tools such as Magic Eraser and Unblur, but their presence is not guaranteed for every user or image.

The web editor documents adjustments including brightness, contrast, white point, black point, highlights, shadows, saturation, and warmth. It does not include every feature available in the apps.
Device requirements and missing tools
Google’s published requirements for most editing features are Android 8.0 or later with at least 3 GB of RAM, or iOS 18 or later with at least 3 GB of RAM. Some features require 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM, and some are limited to Pixel devices. Certain tools need to be downloaded and require available device storage. If an editing control is missing, check the platform you are using, the app and operating-system versions, available storage, and whether the tool supports that photo. For a feature absent on the web, try the mobile app. Missing basic editing controls alone do not establish that you need a paid plan or a new device.

Save edits to the original or keep a copy
Save applies the edits to the original. Save as copy creates a separate edited image and keeps the original intact. Google says a saved copy cannot be restored using the app’s Revert action. If backup is enabled, edits sync to your Google Photos account.

Can Ask Photos edit images with a text prompt?
Google describes Ask Photos as an experimental, Gemini-powered feature that can make edits from a natural-language request. It is not available in every region, access and functionality vary, and it is currently unavailable on the web. Treat it as an optional feature rather than a standard editing tool.
