To dry out a Samsung phone, unplug it, disconnect accessories, and follow the steps for its exact Galaxy model. If it is water-resistant, wipe it with a soft, clean cloth and let it dry fully in a cool, well-ventilated place. If it is not water-resistant, turn it off, remove removable parts where possible, and arrange a Samsung service inspection promptly. Do not charge a wet phone or use heat or compressed air.
First, stop power and check what got wet
- Disconnect power. Unplug the charger and remove connected accessories. Do not reconnect them until the phone and charging port are completely dry.
- Identify the model and its water-resistance guidance. Resistance varies by model and region, so check the model’s manual or local Samsung support page. Do not assume a Galaxy phone is water-resistant because another model is.
- Consider the liquid and exposure. Fresh water, contaminated liquid, and moisture confined to the USB port call for different steps. If you are unsure whether liquid entered the phone, treat it as possible internal exposure.
Choose the right steps for your Galaxy

Drying a water-resistant Galaxy after fresh water
Wipe the outside with a soft, clean cloth and let the phone dry in a well-ventilated area. Keep it unplugged until the phone and port are completely dry. A soft microfiber cloth is suitable for wiping the surface, but it cannot dry internal components or fix liquid damage.
Moisture in the speaker, microphone, or receiver can temporarily affect sound or call quality. Allow those areas to dry naturally; do not insert anything into openings to try to clear them.
If a water-resistant phone got dirty or contaminated liquid on it
Samsung’s rinse instruction applies only to water-resistant models. If such a phone was exposed to dirty water or liquids such as soapy water, oil, perfume, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, cosmetics, or alcohol-containing liquids, rinse it in clean water for 1 to 3 minutes. Then wipe it with a soft, clean cloth and let it dry completely.

Do not apply this rinse procedure to a phone that is not water-resistant or whose resistance status you have not confirmed.
If the phone is not water-resistant
- Turn the phone off immediately. Do not turn it back on just because the outside feels dry.
- Remove the SIM card, SD card, removable accessories, and removable battery if the model has one.
- Wipe moisture from the exterior with a soft, clean cloth.
- Arrange a Samsung service inspection as soon as possible. If a service center is not immediately reachable, leave the phone in a cool, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight while keeping it off.
When a water-drop icon appears or cable charging is blocked
A moisture warning is a protective measure: do not try to bypass it by connecting a cable while the port may be wet. Samsung’s guidance is to unplug the charger, wipe the phone with a dry cloth, gently shake it 5–10 times with the charging port facing down, and leave it in a well-ventilated area or use a fan. Restart only after the phone is completely dry. High humidity can also trigger the warning.

What not to do while drying a phone
- Do not use a hair dryer, heater, or other external heat source, and do not leave the phone in direct sunlight.
- Do not use compressed air; it can push moisture farther into the device.
- Do not use chemical cleaners or abrasive materials.
- Do not force objects into the charging port or other openings.
- Do not charge or reconnect accessories until the phone and port are completely dry.
Why a water-resistance rating is not a guarantee
Samsung’s stated reference conditions include IPX7 at 1 meter for 30 minutes and IPX8 at 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Samsung describes IPX8 testing as 1.5 meters of still fresh water for 30 minutes against IEC 60529 requirements. These are controlled test conditions, not assurance that every Galaxy model has the same rating or that a phone will withstand every liquid, pressure, exposure duration, impact, or state of wear. Resistance can weaken over time, and support varies by model and region.

When drying is not enough
A phone can appear to work normally while internal damage or corrosion is present. Samsung recommends service-center inspection after water exposure, even if the phone seems functional. Arrange inspection particularly when internal ingress is possible, the model is not water-resistant, or charging, sound, calls, or other functions remain abnormal. A repair price or turnaround time cannot be determined without a model-specific assessment.
