On a Windows 11 PC or laptop, you can install Roblox in two official ways: download Roblox – Windows from the Microsoft Store, or install Roblox Player from the Roblox website. The Microsoft Store version is Roblox’s newer Windows app and is the recommended starting point for most users.
Before installing, confirm that your computer runs 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11. Roblox does not list 32-bit Windows as supported. You will also need a supported browser—Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox—if you use the website installation method.
Roblox PC requirements
Roblox is not demanding by modern PC standards, but your computer must meet these basic requirements:

Some older AMD processors may have compatibility problems. If you are unsure whether Windows is 64-bit, open Settings > System > About and check System type.

Method 1: Download Roblox from the Microsoft Store
Use this method if you want the newer Windows app. Roblox identifies the current Microsoft Store product by the exact name Roblox – Windows. The older Store app is named only Roblox.
- Press the Windows key and type Microsoft Store.
- Open the Microsoft Store.
- Click the search box and search for Roblox – Windows.
- Check the listing carefully. The current app has a blue icon. The older app has a light gray icon.
- Select Get or Install.
- Wait for Windows to download and install the app.
- Open Roblox from the Microsoft Store, the Start menu, or the installed-app shortcut.
- Sign in with your normal Roblox username and password.
Your Roblox progress, friends, Robux, and inventory are connected to your Roblox account. They are not stored separately in the Windows app, so they become available after you sign in.
Xbox account linking
The Microsoft Store installation may ask you to link your Roblox account with an Xbox account. Roblox describes this as a one-time requirement associated with Microsoft Store games. Follow the sign-in and linking prompts if they appear.

How to identify and remove the old app
Both the old and new installations may appear in Windows with the name Roblox, which can make them difficult to distinguish in the Start menu. Use the icon and Microsoft Store product name to identify the current version:
- Roblox – Windows with a blue icon: current app.
- Roblox with a light gray icon: old app.
After you have launched the new app and confirmed that you can sign in and join an experience, uninstall the old app. Right-click its Start menu shortcut and select Uninstall, or open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find the old Roblox entry, click the three-dot button, and select Uninstall.
Roblox says the old app will eventually stop working, but its support announcement does not provide a specific end-of-support date.
Method 2: Install Roblox Player from the Roblox website
The website method is still supported in Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. It installs the desktop Roblox Player and uses the browser to start experiences.

- Sign in to your Roblox account. Create an account first if you do not have one.
- Open any Roblox experience.
- Click the green Play button.
- When the installation pop-up appears, allow Roblox Player to download and install.
- Complete any browser or Windows permission prompt.
After installation, return to an experience on the Roblox website and click Play again. If the browser asks which program should open the link, select Roblox and confirm. You can enable the option to remember this choice so that the program-selection prompt does not appear on later launches.

If the website does not start the installer
Check that you clicked the green Play button while signed in, then look for a blocked download or permission prompt near the browser’s address bar. Close other Roblox windows and retry. If the browser repeatedly returns to the installation prompt, follow the clean-reinstall steps later in this guide.
Which installation method should you use?

Roblox itself recommends switching installation types when investigating some client errors. Installing the website version does not create a new Roblox account; sign in with the same account you already use.
How to install Roblox Studio
Roblox Studio is separate from the normal Roblox game client. Install Studio only if you want to create or edit Roblox experiences.

- Open one of your experiences.
- Click the upper-right Menu icon.
- Select Edit.
- When the pop-up says Roblox Studio is installing, allow the installation to continue.
Studio opens automatically after installation. To play Roblox experiences, install the normal Roblox app or Roblox Player instead.
Fix Roblox installation and launch problems on Windows 11
“Cannot find Roblox”
This message means the browser cannot locate the installed Roblox program. Restart Windows, launch the experience again, and accept the browser prompt to open Roblox. If the message continues, uninstall Roblox, restart the computer, and reinstall it using either the Microsoft Store or the Roblox website.
Roblox keeps asking you to install it
An endless installation loop can be caused by corrupted browser temporary files, a damaged Roblox installation, firewall interference, or Roblox still running during installation.
- Close all Roblox windows and other unnecessary programs.
- Restart the computer. Roblox lists rebooting as its first troubleshooting step for general desktop issues.
- Clear the browser’s temporary internet files.
- Check whether your firewall or antivirus has blocked Roblox.
- Reinstall Roblox if the loop remains.
Roblox crashes when joining an experience
Close other programs before installing or updating Roblox. Then restart Windows and try again. Corrupted Roblox files, firewall restrictions, and temporary browser data can all contribute to crashes during startup or while opening a place.

Fix “Failed to load library”
Failed to load library is generally a problem on the Windows PC rather than a Roblox-server problem. Roblox lists missing or corrupted DLL files, antivirus quarantine, outdated Windows or graphics drivers, and a damaged Roblox installation among the possible causes.

1. Clear the Roblox installation folder
First uninstall Roblox if possible. Then press Win + R, enter the following command, and press Enter:
%localappdata%Delete the Roblox folder. Restart Windows before reinstalling. If the Microsoft Store version caused the error, try the official website version; if the website version caused it, try Roblox – Windows from the Microsoft Store.
2. Clear only the Roblox cache
If you want to try a less extensive cleanup, press Win + R and enter:
%localappdata%RobloxDelete the Cache folder. Roblox also lists deleting the entire Roblox folder as an option when the cache cleanup does not resolve the problem.
3. Repair Windows system files
Open Windows Terminal or Command Prompt as administrator. Run these commands separately:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthsfc /scannowAllow each scan to finish, then restart Windows and test Roblox again.
4. Install the Media Feature Pack on Windows N or KN
Windows N and KN editions can lack media components that Roblox needs, including MFPlat.dll. Install the Media Feature Pack through:
Start > Settings > Apps > Optional features > Add a feature > Media Feature Pack > Install

Restart Windows after the feature finishes installing.
5. Update Windows and your graphics driver
Install Windows updates from Start > Settings > Windows Update. To check the graphics driver, right-click Start, open Device Manager, expand Display adapters, right-click your graphics card, and select Update driver.
Check antivirus, firewall, and network restrictions
Security software may quarantine or block Roblox files. Check the antivirus quarantine and restore Roblox files only if you are confident they are legitimate. You can also add Roblox’s installation folder to the antivirus exclusions list:

Roblox identifies the current UDP port range as 49152–65535. A firewall or network policy blocking this range can prevent Roblox services from connecting. Auto-clickers, alternate game launchers, and other third-party software can also interfere, so close them while testing.

Use a clean reinstall when Roblox is stuck in an install loop, crashes immediately, or continues showing library errors.
- Uninstall Roblox from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- If uninstalling fails, reinstall Roblox first. Roblox says this can overwrite damaged or missing files and may make normal removal possible.
- Restart the computer.
- Press Win + R, enter %localappdata%, and press Enter.
- Delete the Roblox folder.
- Restart Windows again if the folder was locked or could not be removed.
- Install either Roblox – Windows from the Microsoft Store or Roblox Player through the official Roblox website.
Deleting the Roblox folder does not delete Studio places unless you manually saved those places inside that folder.
