In most cases, you cannot officially redownload P.T. once it has disappeared from your PlayStation library. The demo was removed from PlayStation’s servers in 2015, and contemporary reporting said that even people who had previously added it to their PS4 libraries received a “Cannot download” error. Sony’s normal account, library, and license checks are still worth trying, but they do not guarantee that P.T. will return.
Use the checks below before assuming the license is lost. They can correct an account mismatch, a hidden-library setting, or a synchronization problem. If P.T. remains unavailable after those checks, there is no verified official download method, transfer procedure, DNS setting, proxy, external-drive trick, or console purchase that reliably restores it.
Why P.T. can disappear even if you claimed it
P.T. was a digital PlayStation demo rather than a conventional disc release. GameSpot reported on May 6, 2015, that the demo had been removed from PlayStation’s servers and could no longer be downloaded, including by users who had already added it to their PS4 libraries. The report described the error as “Cannot download” and noted that Konami had announced the demo’s removal from the PlayStation Store in April 2015.
A library entry is not the same thing as an indefinitely available download package. Your account can retain a record that you claimed or downloaded content while the associated files and entitlement service are no longer offered. Sony’s general redownload instructions assume that the purchased or claimed item remains available through the Store. They do not promise that a delisted title such as P.T. can still be retrieved.

TechRadar later reported that Konami told GamesRadar P.T. would not be available on the PlayStation Store and therefore could not be redownloaded to PS5 through backward compatibility. That is secondary reporting of a past publisher statement, not a guarantee about every possible PS4 transfer or every account configuration. It does, however, explain why a normal PS5 download attempt is not expected to work.
Try the official checks before giving up
These steps come from PlayStation’s general guidance for missing Store or library content. They are free, apply to many ordinary account problems, and are the only supported troubleshooting route described for a missing digital item. Follow them in order and test P.T. after each relevant change.
1. Sign in to the account that originally claimed P.T.
Confirm the exact PlayStation account currently signed in on the console. Sony’s redownload guidance requires the account used to purchase or claim content; being on the same physical console is not enough. Check for common mix-ups such as a second email address, a different regional account, a family member’s profile, or an account created after the original download.
If you can access account information on the web or another console, compare the account identifier with the one used when P.T. was added. Do not assume that a library entry visible under one user is licensed to every user on the console. Correcting the account can restore ordinary purchased content, but it cannot recreate a package that PlayStation no longer serves.
2. Check transaction or purchase history
Open the account’s transaction history and look for the P.T. acquisition record. PlayStation lists transaction-history checks as a way to confirm whether missing content is associated with the account. Record the date, account, and any transaction or item details shown.

A record is useful evidence that the account once claimed the demo. It is not proof that a downloadable package remains on Sony’s servers. If the history contains no P.T. entry, repeat the search on any other account that might have been used. Avoid buying unrelated content merely to test the Store; a new transaction will not restore P.T.
3. Check hidden games and library filters
PlayStation’s missing-content guidance includes checking whether a game has been hidden in the library. Review the library’s hidden-content area and clear filters that might exclude demos, older purchases, or content from another category. Search by the title rather than relying only on the default “recent” or “installed” views.

If P.T. appears after being unhidden, select it and test the download normally. If the same “Cannot download” message returns, the listing is not evidence that the underlying package is available; continue to license restoration rather than repeatedly starting the same download.
4. Restore licenses
License restoration can repair a mismatch between your account entitlement and the console’s local license data. PlayStation says it may help when a game is missing or locked, but its instructions do not state that it will restore P.T. specifically.
On PS5, use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. On PS4, use Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses. Allow the process to finish, then restart the console if necessary and check the library again.

Restoring licenses does not download a replacement copy by itself. It only refreshes the console’s licensing information. If the Store service no longer provides P.T.’s package, a successful license refresh can leave the title unchanged or still produce the same error.
5. Check console-sharing or primary-console settings
PlayStation also recommends checking console-sharing settings on PS5 and the primary-PS4 setting when content is missing. These settings matter when another user on the console is relying on a license owned by a different account. Verify that the account that claimed the content is the one being used and that the console is configured as required for that account’s purchases.
These settings can fix access to ordinary games and add-ons. They cannot override a title’s removal from the service. Do not treat a sharing change as a P.T.-specific recovery method.
6. Contact PlayStation Support with the exact error
If the account, history, hidden-library, license, and console-setting checks do not help, contact PlayStation Support. Include the account you checked, the console model, whether P.T. appears in the library or transaction history, the date you attempted the download, and the complete “Cannot download” wording or any accompanying error code.
Ask Support to verify the entitlement and current availability rather than asking for a guaranteed restoration. Sony’s general troubleshooting page does not promise that Support can return P.T., and there is no basis for promising that an agent can manually re-enable the demo.

What the “Cannot download” message means for P.T.
For an ordinary Store purchase, “Cannot download” can indicate a temporary network problem, a license mismatch, insufficient storage, or a service issue. That is why Sony recommends the general checks above. P.T. is different because there is specific historical evidence that its download package was removed from PlayStation servers.
GameSpot’s 2015 report connected the message to the demo’s removal and said previous library holders were affected. That does not prove that every error shown on every console has the same cause, but it makes server-side unavailability the most important possibility when account and license checks are clean.
Repeatedly retrying the download, deleting a remaining installation, or signing out and back in cannot recreate files that the Store no longer distributes. If P.T. is already installed on a working PS4, avoid deleting it while troubleshooting; the documented evidence concerns redownloading, not the continued operation of every existing installation.
Can you move P.T. to another PS4?
No official, reproducible transfer procedure is established for a PS4 that no longer has a usable copy. A library entry or historical download does not prove that the package can be fetched again on a replacement console. Sony’s standard license and account tools are designed for content that remains available through the service, while the evidence about P.T. describes the package as removed.

The safest approach is to complete the official checks on the original console and account before replacing hardware, and to ask Support whether your specific entitlement is still recognized.

Can you download P.T. on PS5?
There is no verified official PS5 download route. TechRadar reported that Konami told GamesRadar P.T. would not be available on the PlayStation Store and therefore could not be redownloaded to PS5 using backward compatibility. That report does not verify every historical PS4 transfer scenario, but it rules out treating the PS5 Store as a normal source for the demo.
The PS5 license path remains worth checking for account troubleshooting: Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. If P.T. is absent or the download fails afterward, the result is consistent with the title’s documented unavailability. Do not purchase a PS5 expecting backward compatibility to supply a missing P.T. package.
Unverified workarounds: what is and is not established
Online discussions have suggested network changes, proxies, external storage, or buying a console that supposedly has P.T. installed. The available authoritative material does not provide an official, reproducible method for any of these approaches. Their results may depend on a particular account, console state, cached files, or server conditions, and anecdotal success is not a dependable recovery plan.

Because none of the latter approaches is verified, they should not support a purchase decision. Be particularly cautious with listings that promise guaranteed access: the evidence does not establish that a seller can transfer the original account entitlement or that the console will retain a usable installation after a reset, sign-in change, or hardware problem.
A practical decision path
- Check the account. Sign in with the account that originally claimed P.T., not merely the account currently used on the console.
- Check history and visibility. Review transaction history, search the library, and inspect hidden games and filters.
- Restore licenses. Use the PS5 or PS4 path listed above, then test the title once more.
- Verify sharing settings. Check console sharing on PS5 or the primary-PS4 setting if multiple users or consoles are involved.
- Stop before spending money. If the error persists, no cited official source verifies a paid hardware or network workaround.
- Contact Support. Provide the account, console, history result, exact error, and troubleshooting steps already completed.
If P.T. still says “Cannot download” after this sequence, the evidence-supported conclusion is that the normal Store route is unavailable. The checks have ruled out the common account and license explanations without establishing a replacement download source.
What to preserve if P.T. is still installed
If a PS4 currently runs P.T., treat that installation as different from a redownload entitlement. Do not delete the game while experimenting with account changes or storage management. Keep the console and its storage intact, maintain access to the account that used it, and avoid resetting the system unless you have accepted that the demo may not be recoverable afterward.
This is a precaution, not a guaranteed preservation technique. The documented sources address removal from PlayStation’s servers and failure to redownload; they do not promise that an existing installation will survive every hardware failure, system reset, account change, or transfer.

There is no verified official way to redownload P.T. after it has disappeared from your PlayStation library. Confirm the original account, inspect transaction history and hidden games, restore licenses using Sony’s PS5 or PS4 path, check sharing or primary-console settings, and contact PlayStation Support with the exact error. If those steps fail, the 2015 removal evidence explains why: a past library claim does not guarantee that PlayStation still serves the demo’s download package. DNS changes, proxies, external drives, and buying a console with P.T. installed are not authoritative or dependable recovery methods.
