To listen to Nintendo Music without an internet connection, use the Nintendo Music app on a compatible smartphone or tablet: sign in with a Nintendo Account, keep an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, select a track or playlist, and use the download control shown in your current app version. A Nintendo Switch console is not required.
Nintendo confirms mobile-app downloads, but its published material does not define a universal button label, download limit, storage path, or post-membership retention policy. The practical steps below therefore use the controls visible in your installed version instead of guessing at menu names.
What you need before downloading
Offline playback is an app feature, not a general download offered from every Nintendo Music interface. Prepare these items first:
- A compatible smartphone or tablet. Nintendo describes the app as supporting compatible mobile devices. It does not publish one universal list of phone or tablet models in the material cited here, so use the current app-store listing and your device’s operating-system requirements to confirm compatibility.
- A Nintendo Account. You must sign in to the account that will use the service.
- An active Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo Music access is tied to this membership. The required plan and current price can vary by country; check the membership terms shown for your Nintendo Account.
- Service availability in your country or region. Nintendo Music is not offered everywhere. Check Nintendo’s current regional list at Nintendo Music regional availability before troubleshooting an account that cannot access the service.
- Free device storage and an internet connection for the initial download. Nintendo confirms the download capability, but the official information cited here does not state a minimum free-space figure or where downloaded files are stored. Leave reasonable space available and allow the app to complete its own download process.
You do not need a Nintendo Switch console. The service is associated with the Nintendo Account and Nintendo Switch Online membership, while the actual offline files are obtained through the mobile app.

How to download a soundtrack in the Nintendo Music app
Nintendo’s official pages confirm the function but do not publish a dependable, screen-by-screen sequence with fixed button labels. App layouts can change between releases and operating systems. Follow this version-safe workflow:
- Install or update Nintendo Music. Get the official app from your phone or tablet’s app store. Updating first reduces the chance that an older interface hides the current download control.
- Open the app and sign in. Use the Nintendo Account that has the active Nintendo Switch Online membership. If the app presents an account-selection or authorization screen, complete it before looking for music.
- Confirm that the service loads. Browse the catalog or use the app’s search and library features. If the service is unavailable immediately, check regional eligibility and membership status before reinstalling anything.
- Open the music you want available offline. Choose an individual track, album, playlist, or other collection offered by the current app interface. The available download scope can differ by item, so inspect the controls on the specific page rather than assuming every collection behaves identically.
- Use the download control displayed for that item. Tap or select the control that the current version identifies as downloading or making the item available offline. Nintendo has not established one permanent icon or wording in its public instructions, so do not rely on a particular symbol from an older screenshot.
- Wait for completion while connected. Keep the app open if your device restricts background activity, and avoid switching to a metered connection if your data plan is limited. Look for the app’s own completed, available-offline, or equivalent status before disconnecting.
- Test with connectivity disabled. Turn on airplane mode or otherwise disable Wi-Fi and mobile data, then return to the downloaded item in Nintendo Music. A successful test confirms that the app has finished preparing that item for offline use; it does not establish how long access will remain if your membership later changes.
If the control is missing, first verify that you are on an item type the app allows to be downloaded and that the account is recognized as an active Nintendo Switch Online member. Do not try to construct a browser URL or copy an audio file from the app; Nintendo presents offline listening as an in-app feature.
What Nintendo confirms—and what it does not specify
Nintendo’s current overview describes a catalog of more than 250 hours of music from more than 130 game titles. Those are service-catalog figures in Nintendo’s undated overview, accessed October 13, 2026, and can change as the catalog grows. Availability of a particular soundtrack is therefore separate from whether your device can download it.

The official descriptions establish that mobile users can stream or download tracks for offline listening after meeting the account and membership requirements. They do not establish the following implementation details:
- A universal name or location for the download button.
- A maximum number of tracks, playlists, or hours that can be stored.
- A fixed storage folder, export format, or way to move Nintendo Music files to another player.
- Whether downloads can be placed on removable storage.
- How already-downloaded items behave after a Nintendo Switch Online membership expires, is canceled, or changes region.
Because these points are unspecified, treat the app’s status indicators and current help text as authoritative for your device. Do not promise yourself permanent ownership of the audio or assume that a downloaded item is a transferable music file.
Mobile app versus computer browser
Nintendo supports more than one way to access the catalog, but the interfaces do not have the same offline capability. This comparison separates what Nintendo explicitly documents from what remains unconfirmed.

For a flight, commute, or other no-connection situation, download in the mobile app before leaving. Opening Nintendo Music in a computer browser is suitable for supported online listening and browsing, but you should not count on a browser download or browser-based offline playback.

Regional availability
Country support is a service-level requirement, not just an app-store setting. Nintendo maintains a region list that can change; check Nintendo’s regional availability page using your actual account country. If your country is not listed, changing a device’s language or installing the app from another storefront does not establish that the service will work for your account.
Nintendo Switch Online status
Open your Nintendo Account or console account-management tools to confirm that Nintendo Switch Online is active for the same account you used in Nintendo Music. If a family membership is involved, make sure the listening account is covered under the membership’s current family group. The app may continue to show installed content while access status is being checked, so an offline test is more useful after confirming the membership information online.

The US free-trial caveat
The Nintendo US overview advertises a seven-day Nintendo Switch Online free trial. Its displayed terms say the trial automatically converts to a one-month, auto-renewing membership unless canceled and include eligibility restrictions. Those terms are region- and account-dependent and can change. Read the current terms for your country before starting a trial, and cancel according to the local instructions if you do not want the conversion.

Troubleshooting downloads and offline playback
The app does not show Nintendo Music
- Check the regional availability page first. A country restriction cannot be fixed by reinstalling the app.
- Confirm that your device is a compatible smartphone or tablet and that you installed the official Nintendo Music app rather than relying on a mobile browser.
- Update the operating system and app if an update is offered, then sign in again.
The app opens, but you cannot download
- Verify that the signed-in Nintendo Account has an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. A different account on the device may not have the entitlement.
- Open a specific track or playlist and inspect its current controls. The download option may be shown only on the item page or only for eligible content.
- Reconnect to a stable network and retry. Do not assume that a partially displayed item is ready for offline use.
- Check available device storage. Nintendo does not publish a universal storage requirement, so use your operating system’s free-space indicator and the app’s own error message as your guide.
A downloaded item will not play without internet
- Reconnect briefly and open the item in Nintendo Music to let the app finish any pending preparation or account check.
- Look for the app’s completed or offline-available status rather than relying on the fact that the title appeared in a list.
- Test again with Wi-Fi and mobile data disabled. If it still fails, restore connectivity and repeat the download instead of deleting every app file immediately.
- Confirm that the Nintendo Switch Online membership and regional account status are still valid. Nintendo has not published a guarantee about how long offline items remain usable after a membership change.
You are trying to use a browser on a phone or tablet
Switch to the Nintendo Music app. Nintendo UK states that its browser player cannot be used from a smart device, and the official material reviewed does not confirm offline downloads through a browser. A computer browser is a separate online-access route, not a documented replacement for mobile offline listening.

You need the audio as a normal music file
Nintendo documents offline listening inside the app, not exporting tracks to a file manager, desktop player, USB drive, or external storage device. There is no established official workflow for transferring Nintendo Music downloads outside the app, so do not rename cache files or use third-party extraction tools.
Planning downloads for travel or limited connectivity
Download while you have a reliable connection and test the result before leaving. Select only the music you expect to hear, because Nintendo does not publish a download-capacity figure that would let you calculate a guaranteed catalog size. If your device is shared, check which Nintendo Account is signed in before starting a large download. Keep the app installed and avoid clearing its storage after testing; deleting app data can remove locally prepared content even though Nintendo does not describe the exact storage mechanism.
For long trips, perform a second test in airplane mode shortly before departure. This catches incomplete downloads, account sign-outs, and regional or membership changes while you still have internet access to correct them. Carrying headphones is optional; Nintendo does not identify any special accessory or external storage product as necessary for offline playback.
