You cannot currently download Netflix movies or TV shows for offline viewing on Windows 11. Netflix’s current Windows app supports streaming, but Netflix removed its download feature from the app. Netflix also does not support downloading titles through Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, or another Windows browser.
You can still install Netflix on Windows 11 and watch online. For official offline viewing, use the Netflix app on a supported Android, iPhone, iPad, Amazon Fire tablet, or Chromebook.
Can you download Netflix movies on Windows 11?
No. The current Netflix app for Windows 11 does not provide a Download button for movies or episodes. Netflix says that missing downloads indicate the computer is using the new Windows app, and there is no supported way to return to the old downloadable version.

What the Netflix Windows 11 app can do
The Windows app remains useful for streaming. It supports browsing the catalog, searching for titles, watching movies and shows, subtitles, alternate audio, live events, and—in compatible setups—4K and HDR playback. Netflix also supports ad-supported plans in the current app.
Netflix requires Microsoft Edge to be installed for its Windows app, even though you may use the app interface rather than Edge directly for playback.
How to install Netflix on Windows 11
Installing the app gives you a streaming application, not an offline-download feature.

- Select Microsoft Store or Store.
- Select Search.
- Type Netflix and press Enter.
- Select Netflix in the search results.
- Select Install. Depending on the Microsoft Store version, the button may be labeled Get.
- Sign in with your Microsoft account if the Store requests it.
- Open Netflix from the Start menu.
- Select Sign In, enter your Netflix email address and password, and select Sign In again.
If the app is already installed, use the Microsoft Store to check for updates. Updating is sensible for playback problems, but it will not restore downloads. Netflix’s current Windows app no longer supports that feature.

This is not normally a damaged installation or a temporary connection problem. Netflix identifies this error as the result of the Windows app no longer supporting downloads for offline viewing. Reinstalling the app, clearing its data, or signing out will not turn Windows downloads back on.

Can Netflix download movies through a browser?
No. Netflix supports streaming through current Windows browsers, but browser-based offline downloads are not part of Netflix’s supported download feature. This applies to:
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Mozilla Firefox
- Other supported browsers used on Windows 11
A browser may let you save a webpage or cache streaming data, but that does not create an official Netflix offline copy. Avoid tools that claim to extract Netflix movies from the browser. They are not supported by Netflix and may create account, security, copyright, or malware risks.
How to download Netflix titles on a supported device
For official offline viewing, use the latest Netflix app on Android phones and tablets, iPhone, iPad, Amazon Fire tablets, or a compatible Chromebook with the Google Play Store.
Android, iPhone, iPad, and Amazon Fire tablets
- Open the Netflix app.
- Select Downloads.
- Select See What You Can Download.
- Choose a movie or TV show.
- For a movie, select Download.
- For a TV show, select the download icon next to an episode, or select Download Season.
Chromebook
- Open the Netflix app.
- Select Downloads.
- Select Find More to Download.
- Choose a title.
- Select Download for a movie, or select the download icon beside an episode.
- For a complete season, select Download Season when available.
Netflix recommends using Wi-Fi for downloads. The downloaded title remains available through the Netflix app on the device where it was downloaded; it does not become a normal video file that you can copy to your Windows 11 computer.

- The content provider not granting download rights
- Popularity, cost, seasonality, localization, or regional availability
- A studio allowing streaming but not offline downloads
Therefore, a missing Download button does not automatically mean the app or device is malfunctioning.
Important restrictions on Netflix downloads
Downloads are tied to the app and device
Netflix downloads are managed inside the Netflix app. They are not transferable movie files for Windows Media Player, VLC, a USB drive, or another computer. You must remain signed in to the Netflix account to watch downloaded content offline. Any Netflix profile on the device can access the downloads.
Uninstalling or resetting the app deletes downloads
On a supported device, Netflix deletes downloads when you uninstall the app, reset it, or clear its app data. Do not use those maintenance options if you are trying to preserve existing offline titles.

Downloaded titles expire after a period of time. Some titles also limit how many times they can be downloaded within a year. If a download expires, reconnect to the internet and check whether Netflix allows you to download it again.
Canceling a membership removes downloads
If you cancel your Netflix membership, Netflix deletes downloads from the device. Restarting the membership does not restore them; you must download the titles again.
Plan limits apply on supported devices
Netflix currently states that ad-free plans can have up to 100 active downloads per device, depending on the plan’s device limit. Ad-supported plans allow 15 total downloads per device per calendar month. These limits matter on supported mobile and Chromebook devices, not on Windows 11, where downloads are unavailable.

What not to do
- Do not search for an old Netflix Windows app package. Netflix says there is no supported way to revert to the previous app.
- Do not assume an app update will add downloads. Updates provide the current Windows experience, which is streaming-only for this feature.
- Do not use unofficial downloaders or screen-scraping tools. They are not Netflix-supported ways to create offline copies and can expose your account or PC to risk.
- Do not expect a downloaded mobile title to appear on Windows. Downloads are available on the device used to download them.
The practical answer for Windows 11 users
Use Windows 11 for online Netflix streaming through the Netflix app or a supported browser. If you need to watch without an internet connection, download the title in the Netflix app on an Android phone or tablet, iPhone, iPad, Amazon Fire tablet, or compatible Chromebook instead.
There is currently no Netflix-supported setting, browser method, Store version, or Windows workaround that enables offline movie downloads on Windows 11.

FAQ
Can I download Netflix movies directly to my Windows 11 laptop?
No. Netflix does not currently support offline downloads in its Windows 11 app or through Windows web browsers. You can stream titles on the laptop, or download them using the Netflix app on a supported mobile device or Chromebook.
Why did the Downloads tab disappear from Netflix for Windows?
Netflix replaced the older Windows app with a new version that no longer supports downloads. Netflix says there is no supported way to return to the old app.
Will reinstalling Netflix restore downloads on Windows 11?
No. Reinstalling, resetting, or updating the current Windows app will not restore the removed download feature. In fact, on supported devices, uninstalling or clearing app data deletes existing downloads.
