If you want to install GTA: Vice City on a Windows 11 laptop, use Rockstar’s current PC release: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. It includes Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas.
There is no verified official free PC download of Vice City. Rockstar currently lists the trilogy at $59.99, with a Buy Now button. Avoid websites offering a “free full version,” cracks, or modified installers; they are not Rockstar’s official distribution method and can contain malware.
Check whether your laptop can run it
Rockstar’s published requirements for the current Vice City-containing PC edition list Windows 10 64-bit as the minimum operating system. Windows 11 is not named in the published requirements, so Rockstar does not explicitly list it as a supported operating system on the product page.
Before buying, compare your laptop with these requirements:

To check your laptop’s processor and RAM, press Windows + R, enter msinfo32, and press Enter. For the graphics adapter, open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, or check Device Manager > Display adapters.
Rockstar also warns that integrated graphics, mobile chipsets, and AGP graphics cards may be incompatible. A laptop that meets only part of the listed specification may not provide a supported configuration.
How to download GTA Vice City on a Windows 11 laptop
- Open Rockstar’s official product page: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. Confirm that the page is on
store.rockstargames.com. - Purchase the PC edition. The current listing includes Vice City as part of the trilogy rather than as a free standalone PC download. Select Buy Now and complete the purchase using your Rockstar account.
- Download the Rockstar Games Launcher from Rockstar’s official launcher page.
- Install and open the launcher. Sign in with the same Rockstar Games account used for the purchase. Rockstar requires internet access for installation, activation, and periodic entitlement verification.
- Open your library. Find Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition under My Library, select it, and choose the install option.
- Choose an installation drive with at least 45 GB available. Leaving additional free space is sensible because Windows, launcher files, and updates also need room.
- Start the installation and leave the launcher open until it finishes. The installation may use or install DirectX, Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2019 Redistributables (x64), Chromium Embedded Framework, Social Club Framework, and authentication software.
- Launch the trilogy and select Vice City. Vice City is one of the three games included in the package.
Rockstar Launcher requirements
The launcher itself requires Windows 10 64-bit, at least 2 GB of RAM, a DirectX 11-compatible graphics card, and about 1 GB of disk space. The game requires considerably more storage and stronger hardware than the launcher.

If you already own a legitimate copy
If Vice City or a compatible Rockstar installation is already on the laptop, the launcher can look for it rather than downloading another copy. In the launcher, open:
Settings > General > Scan PC for supported installs > Scan Now
If the launcher detects the installation, it adds it to My Library.
- Steam installation: the launcher displays Play on Steam. Steam must be running, and Steam continues to manage updates.
- Non-Steam installation: the launcher displays Play on Disk.
Detection does not turn an unauthorized copy into a licensed copy. You still need the entitlement and account required by the particular release.

What to do if the download or launch fails
The launcher will not install
Confirm that Windows is 64-bit and that the laptop has internet access. Rockstar’s current launcher requirement is Windows 10 64-bit or later in the supported range; Windows 7 is not listed for the current game. Also check that security software is not blocking the launcher and that roughly 1 GB is available for the launcher itself.
The game is missing from My Library
Sign out and back in with the account that made the purchase. Using a different Rockstar account is a common reason for an apparently missing game. If you have an existing installation, run Settings > General > Scan PC for supported installs > Scan Now.
The laptop has insufficient space
The listed storage requirement is 45 GB. Free space on the Windows drive as well as the selected installation drive may matter during setup, so remove unused files or choose another internal drive with adequate capacity.
The game runs poorly
Update the laptop’s graphics driver, connect the charger, close resource-heavy applications, and lower resolution or graphics settings. If the laptop uses integrated graphics or falls below the listed GPU requirement, performance and compatibility are not guaranteed.

You found an old Rockstar page
Rockstar also has a legacy Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy page associated with the original 2005 PC product. Its references to Games for Windows–Live, Internet Explorer, Adobe Flash, and other old components do not describe the current Definitive Edition installation process. Use the current Definitive Edition page and launcher instructions instead.
Can you download the original standalone Vice City for free?
Not from an official current Rockstar PC download. Rockstar’s current store listing sells the trilogy, and Vice City is included in that paid package. A website claiming to offer a free full PC installer is not evidence of an official giveaway. Do not disable Windows Security, run an unknown crack, or provide your Rockstar credentials to such a site.

Is GTA Vice City free to download on a Windows 11 laptop?
No verified official free PC download is currently listed by Rockstar. The current official PC option is Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which includes Vice City and is listed at $59.99.

Does GTA Vice City Definitive Edition support Windows 11?
Rockstar’s published requirements specify Windows 10 64-bit as the minimum operating system and do not name Windows 11. Therefore, Windows 11 is not explicitly listed in the published requirements, even though some systems may run the game.
