There is no verified permanent free download of GTA: San Andreas for Windows 10 from Rockstar. Rockstar’s current store listing offers Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for $59.99, including GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas. The page has a Buy Now button, not a current free-download option.
You can download San Andreas without making another purchase only if your account already has a valid entitlement—for example, from an earlier purchase or an active service library that currently includes the game. This guide shows the legitimate Windows 10 installation paths and explains what to do when an old “free offer” guide no longer works.
Which version of GTA: San Andreas are you downloading?
“GTA San Andreas for PC” can refer to two different Rockstar products. Check the edition before downloading because their system requirements and file sizes are very different.

| Edition | Official PC requirements listed by Rockstar | How it is distributed |
|---|---|---|
| Original PC version | Windows 10 64-bit, 1 GHz CPU, 256 MB RAM, 64 MB DirectX 9 graphics, DirectX 9, and 4.7 GB storage | Requires an account, activation, and entitlement verification |
| San Andreas – The Definitive Edition | Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD FX-6300, 8 GB RAM, GTX 760 2 GB or Radeon R9 280 3 GB, and 45 GB storage | Included in The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition or available through a qualifying library entitlement |
The original game’s 4.7 GB and 256 MB figures do not describe the remastered Definitive Edition. If a website promises the remastered game while quoting those old specifications, its information is outdated.

What “free” can mean legally
There are three situations to distinguish:
- You already own San Andreas. Sign in to the launcher or store account that owns it and install it from your library.
- Your active subscription includes it. Rockstar says PC GTA+ members can access titles currently in the rotating GTA+ Games Library through the Rockstar Games Launcher. The selection can change, so San Andreas is not guaranteed to be included at all times.
- You do not own it and have no applicable subscription entitlement. There is no verified current Rockstar free-download route. The official option is to purchase the applicable product.
A download from a torrent, cracked installer, “100% free” mirror, or file-sharing site is not an official entitlement and can expose your Windows account and files to malware. It also bypasses Rockstar’s required activation and ownership checks.
Method 1: Install an existing Rockstar entitlement
Use this method if San Andreas is already attached to your Rockstar Games account or is currently available through a qualifying Rockstar library.
- Open Rockstar’s official launcher page: socialclub.rockstargames.com/rockstar-games-launcher.
- Download and install Rockstar Games Launcher.
- Start the launcher and sign in to the Rockstar Games account that owns the game or has the applicable subscription.
- Open My Library or the relevant games list.
- Select Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas or San Andreas – The Definitive Edition, depending on the entitlement shown.
- Choose Install, select a drive with enough free space, and allow the download to finish.
- Select Play after installation. The launcher may need an internet connection for sign-in, activation, or periodic entitlement verification.
Rockstar lists the original Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas among the titles supported by its PC launcher. The presence of the title in the launcher does not, by itself, make it free: your account still needs the matching entitlement.

Launcher requirements
Rockstar lists Windows 10 64-bit as the launcher requirement, along with at least 2 GB RAM, 1 GB disk space for the launcher, a DirectX 11-supported graphics card, and an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or AMD Phenom 9850-class processor. The installed game needs substantially more space than the launcher itself.
Method 2: Install through the Xbox app on PC
Use this route only when the Xbox PC app shows the supported Rockstar title as available to your account, such as through an eligible Game Pass entitlement. Availability can change.
- Open the Xbox app on Windows.
- Select Game Pass.
- Find the supported Rockstar title and open its product page.
- Select Install. If it is already installed, select Play.
- When prompted, install or open Rockstar Games Launcher.
- Sign in to your Rockstar Games account.
- Complete the Link Account step and choose whether to enable cloud saves.
- Return to the Xbox app and launch the game.
Account linking is required for Rockstar titles played through the Xbox app on PC. If you cancel the linking screen, return to the Xbox app and select Play again to restart the process.

What happened to the old free San Andreas promotion?
Older articles often refer to a Rockstar Games Launcher promotion that offered the original San Andreas at no charge. Rockstar’s support page for that offer is now about the error “This feature is not currently available”. It does not document an active present-day giveaway or provide a procedure that restores a free entitlement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf the launcher does not show the Store menu and displays that message while you try to claim the old offer, reinstalling the launcher or using a command in Command Prompt will not create an entitlement. Check your account library and Rockstar’s current store instead.
Fix: “Only Windows 10 and later are supported”
Rockstar says this error commonly appears when the launcher or game executable is set to run in an older Windows compatibility mode. Clear that setting as follows.

Installation checks before you start
- Use Windows 10 64-bit, not a 32-bit installation.
- Confirm that the drive has at least 4.7 GB free for the original version or 45 GB for the Definitive Edition, plus working room for updates.
- Sign in with the account that owns the game. Installing the launcher alone does not grant access.
- Allow the launcher to connect to the internet for activation and entitlement checks.
- Do not use compatibility mode unless a current troubleshooting step specifically requires it; an older compatibility setting can cause the Windows-version error.
- Download the launcher only from Rockstar’s official site or install through the store that supplied your entitlement.

FAQ
Can I download GTA San Andreas free on Windows 10?
Only if your account already has a valid entitlement, such as an earlier purchase or a currently applicable subscription library. Rockstar does not currently verify a permanent free download for new users.
Is GTA San Andreas free with GTA+ on PC?
Not automatically. Rockstar describes the PC GTA+ Games Library as a rotating selection, so San Andreas is available only if it is listed for your account at the time you check.
Is the original GTA San Andreas the same as the Definitive Edition?
No. The original PC release has much lower listed requirements and uses 4.7 GB of storage. The Definitive Edition is the remastered product and requires 45 GB of storage and at least 8 GB RAM.

Why does the old free-offer page say “This feature is not currently available”?
Rockstar’s support article documents that error for the former promotion. It does not identify an active giveaway or a workaround that grants the game for free.
Do I need a Rockstar Games account and internet connection?
Yes. Rockstar requires account sign-in, activation, and periodic entitlement verification for the PC installation. A free download, when covered by an existing entitlement, is not an account-free offline installation.
Can I use a CMD command to install GTA San Andreas for free?
No official Rockstar procedure uses a Command Prompt or PowerShell command to create a free entitlement. Use the launcher, Xbox app, Steam, Epic Games Launcher, or the store where you legitimately own the game.
The Bottom Line
For Windows 10, the safe answer is conditional: download San Andreas through Rockstar Games Launcher or an authorized store only when your account already owns it or currently has access through an eligible library. Otherwise, Rockstar’s current official option is the paid Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. Avoid unofficial “free” installers, and do not confuse the original 4.7 GB PC release with the 45 GB Definitive Edition.
