You can download Apex Legends for free on Windows through the EA app or Steam; EA’s game page also links to the Epic Games Store. You’ll need an EA account and a persistent internet connection. Before installing, check that your PC meets EA’s minimum requirements.
Where to download Apex Legends on Windows
Use an official storefront rather than a third-party download mirror. EA lists the EA app and Steam as PC download options, and its official game page also links to the Epic Games Store. Store availability can vary by location, so check EA’s game page for the options offered in your region.

- Steam: You can install and launch through Steam, but you must link your Steam account to an EA account.

Choose one storefront and install the game through it. EA warns that launching Apex Legends simultaneously through Steam and the EA app with the same linked account can cause progression issues.

- A 64-bit Windows PC. The EA app supports 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11; Apex Legends’ listed minimum operating system is 64-bit Windows 10.
- An EA account and a persistent internet connection.
- Enough free storage and hardware that meet at least EA’s minimum PC requirements.
- If using Steam, an EA account linked to your Steam account.
EA says the EA app is required to play EA games on PC, including when launching an EA title from Steam or Epic. For more details about the launcher, see EA’s EA app information page.

How to download and install
- Open EA’s official Apex Legends page or go directly to the official EA app, Steam, or Epic Games Store.
- Sign in to your EA account, or create one if you do not have one. If you choose Steam, link your Steam account to your EA account when prompted.
- Find Apex Legends in the storefront you selected and use its install option.
- Wait for the storefront to complete the installation, then launch the game from that storefront. Avoid opening it at the same time from both Steam and the EA app with one linked account.
Minimum Windows PC requirements
EA’s English-language PC requirements page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists these minimum specifications:

These are minimums, not a promise of a particular frame rate or experience on every PC. EA describes a separate recommended tier aimed at smooth 60 fps gameplay; consult its current PC requirements page for the recommended specifications rather than inferring them from the minimum list.

Is Apex Legends really free?
EA describes Apex Legends as free to download and play. The game includes optional in-game purchases, including virtual currency that can be used for virtual items and random selections. Those purchases do not change the free download price.
Optional controls and accessibility
A controller is not required to download or play on PC. EA confirms support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers, but does not specify a particular make or model. The PC version also offers remappable key bindings, mouse options, gamepad support, and voice/text chat accessibility options. EA says speech/text conversion options are currently available only in English.
