To use a new flagship phone’s wallpaper on another Android phone, save the still image to the target phone, open its built-in wallpaper picker or Gallery, preview and crop the image, choose Home screen, Lock screen, or both, and apply it. Pixel phones use Wallpaper & style and Choose a photo; Samsung phones can select a downloaded image from Gallery or their wallpaper controls. Labels differ by manufacturer, Android release, and model.
What you need before starting
This process transfers a wallpaper image, not the original flagship phone’s entire wallpaper system. A downloaded JPEG, PNG, or other still image can normally be selected as a personal photo on another Android phone. Device-specific effects, animated scenes, generative designs, and interactive lock-screen features may not transfer.
- The image file: Obtain the wallpaper for the exact flagship model from a source that identifies where it came from.
- Local storage: The file must be saved on the Android phone you want to customize. An image that is only visible in a web page or cloud account may not appear in the wallpaper picker until downloaded.
- A screen choice: Decide whether the image belongs on the Home screen, Lock screen, or both. Some phones expose these choices separately; others combine them.
- Permission to reuse: Check the source’s stated reuse terms. An image being easy to download does not establish that it is licensed for every use.
Google’s Pixel Help instructions and Samsung’s support guidance both describe applying a saved personal image. Neither establishes a single official Google or Android archive containing every new flagship phone’s wallpaper files. Treat a model-specific download page as a separate source and do not assume it is official unless the page says so.
How to find the correct flagship wallpaper
Identify the exact model and edition
Flagship families often have several phones, regional editions, launch colors, or software releases. Confirm the model name before downloading. A file labeled only with a family name may belong to a different screen ratio or a different device generation, which can force more cropping.

Check provenance and reuse terms
Prefer a page operated by the phone maker, its press or support organization, or a clearly identified photographer or designer. If you use a community archive, read how it obtained the files and whether it states personal-use or other restrictions. Keep the page or attribution details with the file if you may share the image later.
Download the still image, not just a preview
A web preview can be a resized image or a screenshot of the wallpaper. Use the page’s image download control when one is provided. If the file opens in the browser, use the browser’s save or download command, then verify that the download completed before closing the page.
Download the image to your Android phone
- Open the identified source on the target phone. A direct download on the phone avoids an extra transfer step.
- Choose the full image file. Tap the source’s download or save-image control. Browser wording varies, so look for a command that stores the file rather than merely opening it.
- Confirm local storage. Open the notification shade or the phone’s Files app and look in Downloads, Pictures, or the folder selected by your browser.
- If the image is in cloud storage, download it. Samsung’s support guidance specifically says online or cloud content should be downloaded to the device before it is used as wallpaper.
- Open the saved file once. Viewing it in Gallery or Photos confirms that the phone can read the file and gives you a chance to spot an incomplete or very small preview download.
If you downloaded the image on a computer, transfer it to the phone first with a method your phone supports, such as a cable or cloud-storage download. The important condition is that the final file is available locally on the Android phone.

Google’s current Pixel flow uses the Home screen’s wallpaper settings. Exact wording can vary with the Pixel model and Android version, but the sequence below follows Google’s documented path for choosing a personal photo.

- Go to the Home screen and press and hold an empty area.
- Tap Wallpaper & style.
- Tap Change wallpaper.
- Choose Choose a photo to browse for a personal image.
- Open the folder containing the downloaded file, usually Downloads or a photo folder, and select the image.
- Use the preview to position the subject. Move or zoom the image if the picker provides those controls.
- Choose Lock screen, Home screen, or the combined option shown by your Pixel.
- Tap the apply or confirmation command and return to the selected screen to verify the result.
Pixel’s instructions describe previewing and applying a still image, with screen selection where available. If a particular Pixel build presents only one destination at first, set that destination and repeat the process for the other screen.
Set the wallpaper on a Samsung Galaxy
Samsung’s support material describes selecting an image from Gallery or from the phone’s wallpaper controls. One detailed Samsung sequence is explicitly written for Android 10, so use it as a version-scoped example rather than a guarantee that every current Galaxy phone has identical labels.
- Open Gallery and locate the downloaded wallpaper, or open the phone’s wallpaper settings from the Home screen.
- Select the image and open the command to use it as wallpaper. Depending on the model, this may appear in an overflow menu or as a wallpaper option.
- Preview the image and adjust its position or crop if the phone offers those controls.
- Choose Home screen, Lock screen, or Home and Lock screens (the exact wording varies).
- Confirm the selection and check both destinations if you applied the image to both.
Samsung states that an internet image generally needs to be downloaded onto the device before it can be used. If Gallery shows the picture but the wallpaper picker does not, restart the picker or choose the image directly from Gallery; menu placement differs between One UI releases.
Use the wallpaper picker on other Android phones
Manufacturers rename their customization menus, but the underlying workflow is similar. Start with the Home screen because many launchers expose wallpaper controls there.

- Press and hold an empty Home screen area.
- Tap a command named Wallpaper, Wallpaper and style, Personalize, or a similar option.
- Choose a personal photo, Gallery, Photos, or Files rather than a built-in wallpaper collection.
- Browse to the downloaded image and select it.
- Preview and reposition the image.
- Select the available destination: Home screen, Lock screen, or both.
- Apply the wallpaper, then inspect the screen for unexpected cropping or overlays.
If the Home screen shortcut is absent, open Settings and search for “wallpaper.” The Settings search result is often more reliable than guessing the manufacturer’s menu name. You can also open Gallery or Photos, select the file, and look for a Set as wallpaper command.
Choose the right framing for Home and Lock screens
Preview before applying
The preview is the only dependable way to see how the target phone will frame a flagship image. Displays have different aspect ratios, camera cutouts, status bars, and launcher layouts. Center the important subject where icons and clock text will not cover it.
Expect different crops on different phones
A wallpaper made for one flagship’s display may be taller, wider, or differently positioned on another Android phone. The picker may zoom the image to fill the screen, crop its edges, or allow manual movement. Do not judge the result from the downloaded file alone; judge the final preview on the target device.

A detailed image can work behind a sparse Lock screen but become difficult to read behind Home-screen icons. If your phone permits separate choices, apply the image to one screen first, inspect it, then decide whether the other screen needs a different crop or a different image.

Still wallpaper versus flagship-only features
A still photo selected through Gallery or Choose a photo is the broadest cross-device method. It does not reproduce every feature advertised for the original phone.
- Still image: Usually transferable when saved locally and supported by the phone’s picker.
- Animated or interactive wallpaper: May require a specific system component, launcher, or manufacturer service.
- Generative wallpaper: Availability can be limited by model and Android release. Google’s Android 14 announcement described generative AI wallpapers as coming first to Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which is an example of feature-specific availability rather than a universal Android capability.
- Lock-screen effects: Depth, parallax, weather, or notification-aware behavior may depend on the original phone’s software and will not be created simply by downloading a still image.
If the source offers both a still file and a phone-specific feature, download the still file for the most portable result. Do not expect a photo picker on another brand to install the original phone’s proprietary effect.

The image does not appear in the picker
- Check that the file finished downloading rather than remaining a browser preview.
- Open it in Gallery, Photos, or Files. If it is missing there, search the browser’s Downloads folder.
- If the image is only in cloud storage, use that app’s download command.
- Return to the wallpaper picker after the file appears locally. A restart of Gallery or the picker can refresh its file list.
The phone applies a blurry or low-quality image
Confirm that you saved the full file rather than a thumbnail or screenshot. Reopen the source and download its original or highest-resolution still image when the source identifies one. The supplied support instructions explain the need to download an image but do not establish a universal resolution requirement for every Android model.
The subject is cut off
Reopen the wallpaper preview and move or zoom the image if those controls are available. If the picker always crops the same area, the source file’s proportions may not match the target display. Choose a version of the image with framing that leaves more space around the subject, if the source legitimately provides one.

The wrong screen changed
Some phones apply the image immediately to the screen currently selected in the menu; others ask for a destination afterward. Repeat the process and read the destination choices carefully. On Pixel, select the offered Lock screen or Home screen option. On Samsung, choose the corresponding screen or both screens.
A special effect is missing
That is usually a compatibility limitation, not a failed download. A still image carries pixels, while an animated, generated, or interactive wallpaper can depend on software available only on the original model or a limited set of Android releases.
Compare the available ways to get and apply a wallpaper

A final verification checklist
- Is this the correct flagship model and wallpaper edition?
- Do you know who supplied the file and what reuse terms were stated?
- Is the image stored locally in Downloads, Gallery, Photos, or another visible folder?
- Did you preview the crop on the target phone?
- Did you select the intended Home screen, Lock screen, or both?
- Are you expecting a still image, or are you trying to reproduce a feature that requires the original phone’s software?
- After applying it, did you check the actual screen rather than relying only on the picker preview?
What the official instructions establish
Google Pixel Help documents the path through Wallpaper & style, Change wallpaper, and Choose a photo, followed by previewing and applying the image. Samsung support documents downloading internet or cloud images to the device and selecting a saved image through Gallery or wallpaper controls. Samsung’s detailed menu example is labeled for Android 10, so newer Galaxy software may use different labels. Google’s Android 14 announcement provides a concrete example of generative wallpaper availability beginning with Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro; it should not be read as proof that every Android phone supports the same feature.

Can I use a Pixel wallpaper on a Samsung phone?
Yes, if you have a still image file saved locally. Select it from Gallery or the Samsung wallpaper controls. Pixel-only effects are not guaranteed to transfer.
Why must I download an image that I can already see online?
The wallpaper picker needs a file available on the phone. Samsung’s guidance says online or cloud content should be downloaded to the device before use.
Can I set the same image on both screens?
Usually. Choose the combined Home-and-Lock option when offered, or apply the image separately to each screen.
Will a flagship phone’s AI wallpaper work on any Android phone?
